Abstract

This study deals with the general problem of developing smart technologies for vibration and impedance-based structural health monitoring (SHM) of cable-stayed bridges. The following approaches are implemented to achieve the objective. Firstly, vibration- and impedance-based SHM methods suitable for cable-stayed bridge are briefly outlined. Secondly, smart sensors are designed for vibration- and impedance-based SHM. Thirdly, the practicality of the smart sensor system is evaluated on a real cable-stayed bridge, Hwamyung Bridge in Korea. The system's performance is experimentally analyzed under various cable forces and weather conditions. Finally, the experimental modal parameters are identified by numerical modal analyses of the target bridge. Also, its structural parameters are estimated from the vibration-based structural identification using experimental modal parameters.

Abstract

When neutrally buoyant particles are subjected in laminar and continuous flow, one can observe that particles generally migrate across the streamlines in a particular way. Such lateral motion called “tubular-pinched effect” causes particles tend to migrate toward micro channel wall. The origin of this motion is due to the parabolic nature of the laminar velocity profile in Poiseuille flow. This phenomenon produces a shear-induced inertial lift forces which allows the scattered particles focused and form narrow annulus near the wall. The focalization of particles could improve the method of separation process by using microfiltration. Then, micro porous membrane is used for microfiltration which filters focused particles from a fluid by passage through it. In this work, we use this lift forces generated in laminar microfluidic systems to focus randomly distributed particles continuously. The form of particles deposition poon micro porous membrane hence was observed to determine the important parameter influencing the equilibrium position of the particles. A numerical simulation (COMSOL Multiphysics ®) has also first been developed to study the influence of channel and on the subsequent size of annulus formed by the focused particles on the membrane.

Abstract

Most companies find themselves in highly competitive markets nowadays. As a result, many companies struggle to manage their financial obligation to pay their supplier on time. Delayed payments to suppliers can create all kinds of issue with the supplier's cash flow. Finding a way to reduce or avoid any potential losses because of this delay is needed. Currently, data mining techniques have been widely applied to the assessment or prediction of credit scores for customers in the banking industry (credit scoring), and the most commonly used method is classification. Based on previous studies, research has been conducted to develop a data mining model to produce the best classification model to predict a customer’s payment capabilities. With the application of data mining approaches using oversampling, feature selection (FS) algorithm, including Relief, Information Gain Ratio, PCA, and multiclass algorithm, including Random Forest, SVM, One-versus-all, All-versus-all and Error Correcting Output Coding (ECOC), is expected to produce good accuracy to predict the ability of these payments. As a result of this research, the model proposed can provide the best classification model with 84.24% accuracy and AUC value of 95.3% using sample dataset of manufacturing industry within three years period

Abstract

Fossil fuels as the primary energy resources around the world cause significant negative effect on atmosphere. Recently, biodiesel, which primarily produced from renewable resources, has received great attention because of its environmental benefits. Higher chain of alcohols, such as butanol, may be used as solvent to produce biodiesel with glycerol as byproduct. In order to enhance the quality of glycerol as biodiesel side product which meets food and pharmaceutical standards, vapor-liquid equilibria (VLE) data for ternary systems consisting of 1-butanol, 2-methyl-1-propanol, glycerol and water are required to design and optimize the separation process of glycerol. In this work, the prediction of ternary VLE for (1-butanol / 2-methyl-1-propanol + glycerol + water) using UNIFAC model were determined at various temperatures and compositions and compared with the experimental data giving Average Absolute Deviations (AAD) less than 5.7%. The results indicated that UNIFAC was a reliable model for phase equilibria predictions in the mixtures containing of glycerol

Abstract

Angka harapan hidup (AHH) Kabupaten Sampang meningkat setiap tahunnya namun berjalan lambat. Selama periode 2007-2012, AHH Kabupaten Sampang meningkat sebesar 3.4 poin, yaitu 64.52 tahun.

Abstract

The Indonesian need for sugar is not balanced with domestic sugar production. This is reinforced by the fact that Indonesia is still a sugar importing country since the 1990s. Since 2010 - 2014, Indonesia's import value reaches 1.7 million US $ every year. This situation indicates mismatch with the roadmap of the sugar industry which is expected by 2015 to 2020. East Java as one of the largest contributor of Indonesian sugar with a contribution percentage of 52.31% of the overall national production has an important role in the development of the sugar industry. Therefore, a comprehensive sugar industry cluster development strategy is needed to be developed.  The design of performance measurement system with Integrated Performance Measurement System (IPMS) approach was chosen by selecting PT 'X' as the core agent. The research stages are identification of sugar industry cluster system, stakeholder requirement and objective, Key Performance Indicator (KPI) formulation and model development. Development of performance measurement model by determining aspects and criteria of success of industrial cluster, weighting on each element using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), and designing scoring board to facilitate implementation. There were 4 aspects in performance measurement, 9 criteria, 3 sub criteria and 45 KPI’s.

Abstract

The growth of air transportation is encouraged by high demand to travel fast. Jakarta-Surabaya route is placed as the fourth busiest traffic in the world. This busy route still possible to increase, unless there is an alternative mode of transport to serve the demand of this route. Aircraft flies at a certain flight level that is influenced by the flight distance and the type of aircraft. Jakarta-Surabaya route is served by aircrafts with different types. This means that some flight levels between Jakarta and Surabaya are occupied by these serving aircrafts. On the other hand, at the same flight level, there will be some other planes for other routes. This research attempts to picture the density of the flight level of Jakarta-Surabaya route. The density value will be useful to predict the air quality and the available air space to add the flight frequencies. Data collection of Jakarta-Surabaya flights was aimed to identify the occupied flight level by this route. For other routes that may be crossed or in line with the Jakarta-Surabaya route, are derived from International Civil Aviation (ICAO) Charts. Incorporating the route volume resulting the traffic derivation from the charts and scheduled flight into the network attribute of GIS. Data histories of the flight density from ICAO Charts are used to predict the future density utilizing the GIS. The horizon year for this research is year 2030 where some airports will be improved into higher level airport groups, according to PM No. 69 year 2013.
