Abstract

The induction motor is a desirable alternative to the direct current motor in many applications because it is rugged, reliable and economical. However, control of the induction motor is more complex than the direct current motor, this is caused by the complexity of the dynamics of the induction motor, so the algorithm of induction motor is more complex. Based on these problem, author conducted a study on the induction motor using Model Predictive Torque Control (MPTC) with robust stator flux observer, in which robust stator flux observer is designed to overcome the shortcomings in the Direct Torque Control (DTC) conventional which can cause high fluctuation in flux ripple and torque ripple when reach steady state condition. So from the purpose of the proposed method, the results of the designed system can adjust the rotating speed of the induction motor in accordance references given at 120 rad/s with a settling time is 0.753 seconds, and also can minimize fluctuations in flux ripple and torque.

Abstract

The Traditional Food Seller were mostly managed by the family, so they could be categorized as Family Businesses (FB). Furthermore, The FB in traditional food needed integrated business development strategy (related to marketing, business information system as well as architectural design). It was found during the research supported by UBCHEA in Surabaya. One of the strategies needed was to create the legal family food hawker center place quality. The strategy was in line with the Surabaya Municipality Government, The Cooperative and SME’s Business (Dinas Koperasi dan UMKM). A mini hawker center (consisting of 5 hawkers) was proposed in the roadside of the neighborhood collector. Additional to the center, a culinary park was provided onsite for catering the social interactions of Indonesian. The center was designed with creativity, but with low-cost local material such as brick, wood and bamboo. The design was also equipped with clean water, sanitations as well as food storages. All these would create positive branding and ensure sustainability of the hawker center.

Abstract

Polyvinylidenefluoride-Polyethyleneglycol Titanium dioxide (PVDF/PEG/TiO2) mixed- matrix hollow fiber membranes were prepared via phase inversion induced by dry-jet spinning method. The composition of the dope solution were PVDF 18 gram, PEG 2 gram, N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) 80 mL and TiO2 varied from 0 to 4 gram. The PVDF/PEG/TiO2 mixed-matrix hollow fiber membranes were characterised using XRD, SEM-EDX and TGA. Results indicate that TiO2 addition affects the performance of membrane such as hydrofilicity, pure water flux, porosity and antifouling properties. 2 gram TiO2 addition was found to be the optimum amount based on the results of hydrofilicity, pure water flux, porosity and antifouling properties. Furthermore, PVDF/PEG/TiO2 membranes with xx g TiO2 were used to study the adsorption of Pb(II) on the membrane at various concentration from 20-100 ppm. Results show that the membrane demonstrates good performance with best capacity adsorption of 1.512 mg/cm2 at Pb(II) concentration of 100 mg/L.

Abstract

This research purpose to find out groundwater quality and environmental pollution that has occurred in aquifer of Sukolilo, Surabaya, East Java. Vertical Electrical Sounding is a geoelectric method to measure the resistivity of the rocks. This instruments is used to obtain subsurface information about aquifer depth.  Water quality tester is used to know water quality by measuring acidity, conductivity, salinity, Oxidation Reduction Potential, and Total Dissolved Solid parameter. The result shows that aquifer has about 3.17 m thickness and lied at 0.45 to 3.62 m with lithology of alluvium. Lithology changes toward the north shown by different depth of the layers of rock. There has been sea water intrusion in groundwater aquifer at Sukolilo area. It was shown by high salinity and high Total Dissolved Solid parameter of some water samples with the higher values approaching sea. Therefore, it can be concluded that water from the unconfined aquifer in Sukolilo was polluted and not worthy for consumption.

Abstract

Abstract

The stability of riverbed became an important part in the river. Basically, the stability would be maintained if the grains of sediment was not moving (transported). Riverbeds that were disrupted because of carried details (degradation) or stacked granules (aggradation) in certain parts of the river caused the structure to be damaged. Degradation and aggradation along the river road at a certain time would be figured out in this study, so that it could assist in making treatment recommendations layer riverbed. The case study was conducted on Dengkeng River along the 8 km segment Karangjoho-Jetis which was a fixed flow (quasi-steady) sub critical Froude number <0.6. Bottom sediment sample material with a grain diameter variation D35, D50, D65, and d90 in grain size analysis was used for the calculation. The process of degradation and aggradation riverbed sediment discharge was known by calculation using the method of Meyer-Petter & Muller. Parabolic model analysis with the help of MS Excel was used to calculate the degradation and aggradation happened. At the time of running, graph illustrating the comparison between degradation and aggrades with a segment length of the river at a certain time was seen. The graph showed the longer segment of the river, degradation and aggradation would less.

Abstract

Nowadays, the energy efficiency is of most importance in all economical activities. For the fishing industry, it is particularly critical. Energy efficiency in the fishing sector can be expressed in term of the ratio of fishing capture over operational cost. The fuel cost in ship operation became a dominant factor of the total operational cost. Moreover, fuel cost is high and continues to increase. One way to achieve better energy efficiency is to use a high efficiency ship propeller in order to diminish fuel consumption.   Trawlers have two main operational conditions; they are the voyage condition and the trawling condition. The voyage condition is when the trawler travels to port and to the fishing grounds. The trawling condition is when the trawler pulls the trawl to catch fish. Most of trawler problem is in trawling operation with trawls, the ship resistance increased tremendously and then the propeller must work harder to ensure the ship can advance against the trawling resistance at low speed, 3, 5 Knots. This condition corresponds to a heavy load condition. In this condition, the propeller efficiency is low. Duct propeller is one of the configurations that increase the propeller efficiency in heavy loaded condition. The other strategy is to increase the energy efficiency is to optimize ship speed in voyage condition.  In this research, the numerical simulations performed for the propeller-duct interactions were made possible thank to an iterative procedure where the flow around each of the several components are modeled with a potential flow theory. Boundary element Method (BEM) or panel method is used to solve the potential flow model. The models and methods are described in the document as well as the iterative procedure that has been developed within the framework of this project. We have investigated energy efficiency with fuel consumption approach. Propeller with and without duct in same size (B3-65 and Kaplan 65 in Duct 19A) are analyzed and optimized ship speed 9 Knots to 7 Knots. It shows that 13.7 % of the fuel consumption was saved with a duct propeller in trawling condition and 35% of the fuel consumption was saved with an optimized ship speed in voyage condition.

Abstract

Indonesia has been experiencing population and high economic growth in line with rapid urbanization. As a consequence, the needs for living areas increased faster and enormous number of residential buildings, especially apartments, have been developed in major cities, such as Bandung, resulting in further growth of energy consumption. Thus, it is necessary to develop energy-saving sustainable apartments in Indonesia in order to cope with escalating energy issues.  This paper reveals the detailed profiles of household energy consumption of apartments in Bandung City, Indonesia. A survey within the city was conducted (n=100) in 2016 to obtain household energy consumption data of public apartments. The detailed information about household appliances and domestic energy consumption profile among households were investigated through the face-to-face interviews and the measurement of appliances’ capacities by using the watt checker. The annual average energy consumption including electricity and gas was calculated. The results show that the annual average operational energy for public apartments are 9.8 GJ/year. The annual average energy for cooking accounts for the largest percentage (48%) of operational energy followed by refrigerator (27%), lighting (10%), entertainment (9%), cooling (3%), etc. The profiles of CO2 emissions are similar with those of energy and the potential energy-saving strategies for apartments in Indonesia were proposed.
