Abstract

Hybrid power generation system such as photovoltaic (PV)-diesel is one of the solution to reduce operational cost of the conventional diesel generation system. However, fluctuation of PV power due to uncertainty in weather condition may generate an unstable frequency of system. Further, it may reduce the reliability of the power utility, especially when the penetration of PV power is large. Therefore, a frequency control approach that involving PV with battery supervised by neural network algorithm is proposed to generate a stable system frequency. This method can reduce the frequency deviation without smoothing PV output power. The PV panels can generate maximum power according to the weather condition and frequency deviation. The PV output power and battery output power is controlled by neural network algorithm control. The neural network algorithm control is considering frequency deviation, average insolation and change of insolation as input. The proposed method is compared with similar system but without the existence of battery as energy storage system. The simulation results show that the proposed method can generate small frequency deviation compared with system without battery.

Abstract

The growth and development of Gated Community are happening around the world with no exception in Indonesia. The development happened because of rapid urban growth caused by urbanization. The important results from studying the transformation of gated community are the trend and factors that cause the change. The purpose of this research is to predict, prepare and control the growth of formal urban housing in the future. Factors led to the emergence and growing rapidly of a gated community in Southeast Asia is a combination of socio-economic background, culture, and security. Research is conducted by two approaches. Firstly, are the external aspects such as regulation of formal housing, political condition, and real estate market condition. Secondly, are the internal issues such as the concept of settlement planning and the characteristics of the occupants. This study was conducted in three residential development in the city of Medan which represent in the 1980's, 1990's and 2000's, namely Taman Setia Budi Indah, Graha Bumi Asri and Graha Metropolitan. The research’s result shows the factors of changes occur in the privatization of public space, exclusivity and the need for security. The indirect phenomenon of gated community growth is a reflection of a modern city life's critique, because of the safety reduced. If these are not anticipated soon, it will form the structure of fragmented urban space with the privatization of public space legally

Abstract

The issue of the logistics system is an important issue for the state of Indonesia as an archipelago. Effort to distribute commodities to destinations across the island and attempted export of transport costs become cheaper and faster is a thing to be achieved by all parties including the government of Indonesia. Logistical problems in eastern Indonesia are more complex than the western part of Indonesia. For example, the cost of transport from eastern Indonesia is more expensive than the western part of Indonesia. Therefore, PELINDO II as the company seeks to make the country a new facility in the form of New-port that will replace the port of Sorong Sorong. New-Sorong port will be the largest port in Eastern Indonesia. This paper makes an optimization model with the goal of optimizing shipping container and determines how much capacity should be made to the port of New-Sorong.

Abstract

TiAl alloys is commonly used for bone implant applications because it has good biocompatibility. However, in long term usage of metal implants, metal release, which can harm the body, may occured. The metal release can be inhibited by hydroxyapatite-chitosan composite coating on the metal surface using Electrophoretic Deposition (EPD) method. EPD method carried out with 200 v for 40 and 60 minutes, to compare the impact of different interval time in producing the best product. The coated alloy was observed physically by SEM and showed that 60 minute-treatment produced better result. The XRD and FTIR analysis shows that the composite of hydroxyapatite-chitosan has successfully coated on TiAl alloy. The coated TiAl alloy also has low corrosion rate and could potentially be used as bone implants.

Abstract

New residential buildings in developing countries often have inadequate seismic protection, particularly for masonry. Such material is widely preferred because the cost and application are relatively cheap. To decrease the vulnerability, an interesting option is represented by seismic isolation, but the cost should remain relatively low, and this is the reason why rubber isolation with few pads remains the most suitable technical solution to adopt. In this study, we deal with a newly conceived low-cost seismic isolation system for masonry buildings relying on elastomeric bearings. The elastomeric isolator here proposed consists of few layers of rubber pads and fiber lamina, making it cheaper comparing to the conventional isolators. A detailed 3D finite element (FE) analysis to predict the behavior of the low-cost rubber isolator undergoing moderate deformations is carried out. A Yeoh hyperelasticity model with coefficients estimated through available experimental data is assumed for rubber pads. Having so derived the shear behavior, such isolation system is implemented at a structural level into a two stories masonry house prototype, identifying the 3D model with a damped nonlinear spring model, so making the FE analysis computationally inexpensive. For masonry, a concrete damage plasticity (CDP) model available in the commercial FE code Abaqus is adopted. A nonlinear static-pushover analysis is conducted to assess the performance of the isolated building. To simulate a realistic condition under seismic event, a ground motion data is applied to observe the dynamic behavior of the building by monitoring the damage level of masonry. Through a-posterior estimation, it is also possible to monitor the deformation of the isolators during the seismic excitation, to determine whether the isolator is capable of resisting shear deformations in different angles. According to the results obtained, quite good isolation is obtained with the system proposed, with immediate applicability at a structural level.

Abstract

The maneuverability of a ship at seaway is strongly influenced by a design of rudder. An innovative design of rudder based on a tail shape of fish was developed with the intent of improving an efficiency of ship maneuverability. Two designs of rudders were proposed i.e. the rudder of forked which is a rudder with an area reduction on the middle part, and the lanceolate shape or a rudder with additional area on the middle part. In evaluation of the rudder designs performance, the numerical approach of Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) was applied to determine a side force generated by rudder using the commercial software of FLUENT. Numerical simulations were performed on the rudder designed of rectangular, forked and lanceolate which had similar a surface area with the variations of rudder angle such as 100, 200 and 300 due to the uniform fluid flow at a constant speed. Further simulations was performed on the two forked rudder designed which takes into account the influence of propeller due to fluid flow on the rudder surface. It had shown the velocity of fluid flow behind the shaft of propeller very small in which the middle part of the rudder produced less lift force compare to the other part of rudder. Mathematical and numerical model of ship maneuvering were developed in order to evaluate the performance of a ship maneuvering in seaway based on the IMO standards on turning test. The simulation results had shown the rudder of forked produce the ship maneuvering performance that exceeds the performance of rectangular rudder as well as lanceolate rudder.
