Abstract

The preliminary clinical study on seven volatile agents and their olfactory threshold values of cadinum, camphora, capsaicin, carbon disulphide, vanilla, oleum menthae piperitae and ether has been performed. Their concentrations in solution and as a vapour could be measured by regression calculation. The olfactory detection threshold of these evaporated agents constituted the following concentrations: cadinum 0.12325/0.007968, camphora 0.01993/0.0045364, capsaicin 0.0118/0.0007573, carbon disulphide 0.02703/0.0066363, vanilla 0.01884/0.004255, oleum menthae piperitae 0.01228/0.002064, and ether 0.014801/0.0003613. These agents could be normally recognized by healthy volunteers. The concentration of the agents can be drawn and displayed in linear graphic by arithmetic logarithm with 30% different vapour concentration for each agent. These volatile agents as test materials, based on these findings were called "C4VOE-GAMA Olfactometer". A clinical study to fmd out the normal standards of the olfactory threshold and the use of this test material in measuring the olfactory capability in cases of nasal pathology is suggested.Key words : C4VOE-LAMA olfactometer-volatile agent-olfactory threshold value-gas chromatograph

Abstract

Plasma lipid spectrum studied included total lipid plasma, plasma triglyceride, plasma phospholipid and plasma cholesterol concentration in rats.1-listologically earlier hepatotoxicosis showed hyperplasia and metaplasia, and metaplasia of bile duct epithelial cells. The two groups of rats, the control group and the treatment group (each group comprised 10 rats). 3•month old, healthy, and 12 —16 g % haemoglobin concentration, were used as experimental animals. -All of them were fed and given water ad libitum, and 0.2 ml of propylen glycol per oral was also provided by sonde for 60 days. The treatment group was supplemented 10 mg of aflatoxin B, (AFB1) diluted in 0.2 ml propylen glycol. At the end of the treatment, histologically epithelial cells of bile duct showed extensive hyperplasia and metaplasia in rats supplemented with 10 rag AFB1. The plasma lipid spectrum between the control group and the treatment group was:plasma total lipid concentration (X ± 1 SD): 496.0 ± 12.61 mg/I00 ml and SO4M ± 10.46 mg/100 ml, plasma triglyceride concentration (X * 1 SD) 93.4 ± 14.83 mg/ l00 ml and 101.2 12.62 mg/100 ml. plasma phospholipid concentration (X ± 1 SD) 9.3 ± 4.21 mg/ l00 ml and 8.9 ± 3.92 mg/100 ml, plasma cholesterol concentration (X ± 1 SD) 106.9 t 17.56 mg/100 ml and 104.2 ± 12.53 mg/100 ml. The analysis test showed that there were no significant differences between blood plasma parameter of the two groups (p > 0.05).The result suggests that AFB, chronic toxicity on plasma lipid spectrum of rats is not proven despite the occurrence of earlier hepatotoxicosis. -Key Words: aflatoxin Bt -- hepatotoxicosis -- bile duct epithelial cells -- plasma lipid spectrum -- rat

Abstract

Background: In the present time therapy with antibiotics does not always solve the problem of infectious disease. Many factors influence infectious disease including immun mechanism, disease, resistant strain of microorganism, etc. Immunotherapy using autovaccine could be an alternative therapy, especially on chronic ulcer. Objective:The study observed the effect of autovaccine on ulcer of mice infected by various single bacteria and mix of bacteria. Methods :One hundred and eighty female mice were divided into 3 groups, group 1 was infected by Stapylococcus aureus, group 2 by E.coli, group 3 by mix bacteria (P. aeruginosa, Stapylococcus aureus, E. cob), and ten mice served as control. Half of each group of infected mice then was given autovaccine subcutaneously once a day for seven days. Development of skin lession was observed daily until recovery occured. Titer antibody against bacterial was evaluated using agglutination test. Results: Autovaccine group recovered faster than untreatment group. Number of death in infected group was higher than control group. Autovaccine increase antibody titer in mix bacterial infected group, and group infected by S.aureus, but had no effect on antibody production on group infected by E.coli. Conclusion: Autovaccine has no effect on recovery of skin lession of single infected mice, but effective to heal in mix infected mice.Key words: autovaccine - immunostimulator - bacterial infection - antibody - ulcer healing

Abstract

Muchlas 1 has adapted marital intimacy scale (10 questions) from 36-items of PAIR (Personal Assessment of Intimacy in Relationships) to suit with Javanese culture. In his dissertation, the scale was used to describe that one of the ways to increase the condition of mental health of mothers attending a course on mental health is by improving their marital intimacy. The result is not like what was expected, although the scale had been approved in the reliability and validity test. In his study on this scale, Sudiyanto2 said that although it had significant validity, the scale still had low internal consistency; there were normative questions, asking about morality instead of intimacy; several statements were inappropriate and the ten questions might not represent marital intimacy dimensions. The demand to revise this scale became urgent, as the scale is the only one planned for Indonesians and its practicality is required to evaluate the results of consultations on marital problems as well as mental health conducted by existing institutions, especially the Advisory Board of Marital and Separation Problems (BP4). Later Muchlas and Sudiyanto3 revised this scale of marital intimacy, and it became the revised scale of Marital Intimacy (15 questions). This new scale had better validation and internal consistency. In this study the revision of the scale of marital intimacy was used to measure the marital intimacy of worried patients who visited BP4 for consultation concerning with their separaty. Through an experimental study using psychotherapy, 100 random samples were divided into two groups; 50 samples belonged to a group provided with psychotherapy and 50 other samples belonged to a control group without psychotherapy. Their marital intimacy was measured using the new instrument before and after they were provided with psychotherapy. The result showed significant difference between the two groups and the validity of the marital intimacy scale used in this study was adequately good.Keyword : marital intimacy -- validity of the MIS -- REMIS -- psychotherapy

Abstract

A 10-year old boy presented small testicles, a small penis, hypospadia, scanty hair growth, and long legs and arms indicating Klinefelter syndrome. Klinefelter syndrome is one of the abnormality of excessive number of sex chromosomes in which the male phenotype presents female characteristics such as breast development, scanty hair growth, long arms and legs, small testes and high pitch voice. The examination in the above case reveals two X-chromosomes and one Y-chrtimosome in the nuclei of cells as the result of fertilization from XX ovum and Y spermatozoa or from X ovum with XY spermatozoa!. Research studies showed there were 70% XXYmale cases in which their XX chromosomes came from the mother, whereas the other 30% cases their XYchromosomes came from the father. Other studies showed the poSsible relationship of Klinefelter syndrome with the incidence of leukemia. The result of chrothosomal analysysindicates that the abOve case was trUIYKlinefelter syndrome.Key Words: Klinefelter syndrome - genital abnormality - XY chromosomes - genetic mapping - clinical generics
