Abstract

Education technology is as important as the education itself. Education technology speaks more than just supporting devices for learning. It is actually a systematic way of designing, implementing, and evaluating the total process of learning and teaching in terms of specific objective. Based on research in human learning and communication, education technology employs a combination of human and nonhuman resources to bring about more effective instruction. The main issues of education technology lie on technology capability to deliver education messages. Some factors need to be addressed: communication obstacles, kinds of media, new media research for education purposes, institutional support as well as public policy support.

Abstract

Technology development has shaped the way we communicate each other. New media also built a new mode of communication. These developments lead to a new map of communication—in the field of practice and theoretical domain. Responding to these developments, Ward divided media to ‘new’ news media, ‘new’ non-news media, and traditional media. Each was characterized by its technology, interactivity, and any other features. McQuail divided media into 4 type: interpersonal communication media, interactive playing media, information searching engine, and information exchange media such as Internet. For Pavlik, technical functions become the main feature of media categorization. There are stages of production and processing information, distribution and transmitting information, and display or ways of presenting information.

Abstract

Labelling theory, famously associated with Howard Becker, was resulted from deviation studies which flourished in the late years of 1950s. Labelling theory, as part of interaction symbolic school of thought, assumed deviation as interactional function between deviants and non-deviants, rather than individual inherent characteristic. Labelling theory consisted of four tenets: (1) Social label for particular action; (2) criminal act is resulted from social rules; (2) social control is worsening criminal problems; and (4) there are interrelated bonds within people who being labeled and their counterparts who give them any label. Media, for some ideological reasons, implied labeling theory in their narration which acted as a mean for social construction.

Abstract

Education is, essentially, a lifetime experience. Education begins as early as childhood, and family become an early place to start. Parent’s communication plays important role in education, especially in shaping children’s personality. The roles of parents their children education aren’t only limited on providing material resources needed to pay education cost. Parents also have to add and keep updating their knowledge continuously. The other key to strengthening education is by providing a healthy, harmonious, and safe environment for their children growth. This should be parents’ role, too, in shaping their children’s personality.

Abstract

The field of PR activities are commonly focused on efforts to build strong brand image, product positioning, advertising, promotion and publicity. In the world of high competition, this strategy is not enough. Many multinational corporate nowadays choose Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as new strategy to build positive image and gaining good reputation. The existence of CSR program indicate corporate sense of social responsibility toward public interests. In practice, a tension between corporate need to build image and its consistencies toward moral integrity and social commitment was often found. Corporate often use its CSR program as a momentum of publicity instead of showing a real and genuine interest in community development. Therefore, an understanding to PR values and ethics was needed to plan and implement CSR program.

Abstract

PenyuntingAlex Sobur

Abstract

There’s no easy way to understand semiology, or semiotics. For sure, semiology is focusing itself to study sign, text, and representation. By employing semiology, scholars try to interpret signs and addressing the politics of representation as reflected on the text. In the field of communication, semiology occupied itself to interpret the meaning which lies behind various means of communication. In order to reveal the hidden meanings behind the text, scholars must equipped themselves with a clear statement of the problem, corpus, scope of problems, and text substance. There are three kind of corpus: (1) primary corpus, e.g. text; (2) comparative orpus; and (3) referent corpus.
