Abstract

 In this paper, a dual band rectangular microstrip patch antenna with microstrip line is presented. The proposed antenna is designed on FR4 substrate with thickness 1.5 mm and relative permittivity 4.3. The antenna is designed to operate at 2.4/5.8 GHz bands for Wi-Fi/WiMax applications. The obtained return loss is -32.77dB at 2.4 GHz with 7.4% bandwidth and -25.955 dB at 5.8 GHz with 8.17% bandwidth. The practical and simulation result are computed. It is noted that there is a good agreement between the simulation and measured result (using vector network analyzer (VNA)).

Abstract

Stroke patients require a long recovery. One success of the treatment given is the evaluation and monitoring during recovery. One device for monitoring the development of post-stroke patients is Electroencephalogram (EEG). This research proposed a method for extracting variables of EEG signals for post-stroke patient analysis using Wavelet and Self-Organizing Map Kohonen clustering. EEG signal was extracted by Wavelet to obtain Alpha, beta, theta, gamma, and Mu waves. These waves, the amplitude and asymmetric of the symmetric channel pairs are features in Self Organizing Map Kohonen Clustering. Clustering results were compared with actual clusters of post-stroke and no-stroke subjects to extract significant variable. These results showed that the configuration of Alpha, Beta, and Mu waves, amplitude together with the difference between the variable of symmetric channel pairs are significant in the analysis of post-stroke patients. The results gave using symmetric channel pairs provided 54-74% accuracy.

Abstract

This paper presents a highly efficient rectenna of RF energy harvesting systems operating at 1.8 GHz and 2.5 GHz bands for battery-less sensor application. The antenna is designed by CST-MWS. The Schottky diode used for rectifying circuit is HSMS 286B in which designed by Agilent ADS. The key finding of the paper is that the simulated DC output voltage of the rectenna is 1.35 V for low input power of -25 dBm at a high resistance load of 1M Ω. Correspondingly, the RF-DC conversion efficiency of the rectification process is 59.51% and 45.75% at 1.8 GHz and 2.5 GHz, which are high efficiency and much better compared to literature respectively. The rectenna is capable to produce 1.8 V from an input power of -20 dBm. Thus, the proposed RF energy harvesting system offers a promising solution designed for efficient functionality at a low power level of RF energy in the dual band.

Abstract

In Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) system, one approach of image representation is to employ combination of low-level visual features cascaded together into a flat vector. While this presents more descriptive information, it however poses serious challenges in terms of high dimensionality and high computational cost of feature extraction algorithms to deployment of CBIR on platforms (devices) with limited computational and storage resources. Hence, in this work a feature dimensionality reduction technique based on Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is implemented. Each image in a database is indexed using 174 dimensional feature vector comprising of 54-dimensional Colour Moments (CM54), 32-bin HSV-histogram (HIST32), 48-dimensional Gabor Wavelet (GW48) and 40-dimensional Wavelet Moments (MW40). The PCA scheme was incorporated into a CBIR system that utilized the entire feature vector space. The k-largest Eigenvalues that yielded a not more than 5% degradation in mean precision were retained for dimensionality reduction. Three image databases (DB10, DB20 and DB100) were used for testing. The result obtained showed that with 80% reduction in feature dimensions, tolerable loss of 3.45, 4.39 and 7.40% in mean precision value were achieved on DB10, DB20 and DB100.

Abstract

The plasmonic material properties of aluminum allow active plasmon resonances extending from the blue color in the visible range to the ultraviolet (UV) region of the spectrum. Whereas Al is usually avoided for applications of plasmonics due to its losses in the infrared spectrum region. In this work, the study of the scatter and absorption of disk nanoantennas (DNAs) using various types of materials Au, Ag, and Al is accomplished by using the CST microwave studio suite simulation. The results showed that Al can offer good plasmonic properties when DNA radius is 25 nm to 125 nm at 20 nm height and working wavelengths longer than 800 nm in the near-infrared (NIR) region. Al produces negative plasmonic features around 800 nm wavelength due to the interband transition in the imaginary part of epsilon. For Au and Ag, the plasmonic characteristics rapidly decayed when the DNA radius was higher than 60 nm, but in contrast, Al offers good plasmonic features at these large dimensions of DNAs. This extended response of Al in UV, visible, and NIR, incorporated with its low cost, natural abundance, low native oxide, and amenability to industrial processes, could make Al an extremely promising plasmonic metal candidate for energy applications.

Abstract

The algorithm to allocate mesh active link to radio resource timeslot in wireless mesh network (WMN) is investigated. This paper proposes the novel method to allocate multiple links in one timeslot for improving the wireless mesh network throughput via spatial time division multiple access (STDMA) protocol. The throughput improvement is obtained by modifying greedy based algorithm that is widely known as a low complexity algorithm. We propose and investigate new parameters in the greedy based algorithm that can be used as scheduling control parameters, i.e. interference weight, scheduling weight, and the sum of link’s degree. Simulation results indicate that this approximation increases network performance in throughput and length of scheduling performance closed to the upper bound performance that is achieved by the algorithm that uses the physical interference model.

Abstract

With respect to the problems of aggregation about group experts’ information and dynamic decision in DEMATEL(decision making trial and evaluation laboratory), a dynamic DEMATEL group expert decision-making method on intuitionistic fuzzy number(IFN) is presented. Firstly using IFN instead of original point estimates to reflect the experts’ preference, the group experts’ information are integrated horizontally at each period. Then the aggregation information at different periods are aggregated vertically again by dynamic intuitionistic fuzzy weighted averaging (DIFWA) operator so as to obtain the dynamic intuitionistic fuzzy DEMATEL total relation matrix. Thirdly, through the analysis of center and reason degree, the positions of the various factors in the system are clear and definite, and the inner structure of system has been revealed. Finally, the feasibility and practicability of the proposed method is shown through an illustrative example of a process of course selection in a school.

Abstract

In order to solve being sensitive to the initial weights, slow convergence, being easy to fall into local minimum and other problems of the BP neural network, this paper introduces the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm into the Artificial Neural Network training, and construct a BP neural network model optimized by the particle swarm optimization. This method can speed up the convergence and improve the prediction accuracy. Through the analysis of the main factors on the cost of transmission line project, dig out the path and lead factors, topography and meteorological factors, the tower and the tower base materials and other factors. Use the PSO-BP model for the cost forecasting of transmission line project based on historical project data. The result shows that the method can predict the cost effectively. Compared with the traditional BP neural network, the method can predict with higher accuracy, and can be generalized and applied in cost forecasting of actual projects.

Abstract

In this paper, we present a new direct access strategy for speaker identification system. DAMClass is a method for direct access strategy that speeds up the identification process without decreasing the identification rate drastically. This proposed method uses speaker classification strategy based on human voice’s original characteristics, such as pitch, flatness, brightness, and roll off. DAMClass decomposes available dataset into smaller sub-datasets in the form of classes or buckets based on the similarity of speaker’s original characteristics. DAMClass builds speaker dataset index based on range-based indexing of direct access facility and uses Nearest Neighbor Search, Range-Based Searching, and Multiclass-SVM Mapping as its access method. Experiments show that the direct access strategy with Multiclass-SVM algorithm outperforms the indexing accuracy of Range-Based Indexing and Nearest Neighbor for one to nine percent. DAMClass is shown to speed up the identification process 16 times faster than sequential access method with 91.05% indexing accuracy.

Abstract

Trust of using automated teller machine (ATM) is a daunting task for many Indonesians, where the security issues associated with it, still haunting them. The paper examines the collaborative issues related to the ATM security such as: perceived usefulness and ease of use, perceived security, trust, intention to use and actual system use, by using revised technical acceptance model (TAM) according to the banking purposes. The study takes customer samples of major leading banks in Indonesia and expected to present the current situation faced by many Indonesians when dealing with the ATM security. The outcome will be valuable inputs for the policy makers of the banks to establish further strategy to cope with integrated security issues related to ATM use.
