Abstract

One of human resources exerting an influence on the process of quality development in higher education institutions is lecturer. Lecturers play a role in realizing the purpose of national education (enhancing intellectual capacity of the life of nation, and developing quality of good and civilized Indonesian people). They can give contribution to higher education institutions if they make effective efforts and act in an appropriate manner (not only in terms of the quantity of efforts, but also the direction of the efforts), maintain good attitudes, attempt or intend to work, are supported by the institution for the sake of their success of performance. For that reason, it is important for lecturers to recognize their responsibility and performance, as well as to measure their efforts according to indicator of success. One way to improve organizational performance is by identifying the extent of lecturers’ work engagement. Several studies have examined such components of work engagement as self-efficacy, optimism, hope, and resilience. The present research is intended to consider several psychological constructs related to self-efficacy, optimism, hope, and resilience which influence work engagement by using mediator variable of perceived organizational support on lecturers of public higher education institutions in Surakarta. Samples include 393 lecturers of Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the application of Lisrel 8.70 program. The analysis results indicate that 1) the model is considered fit,2)   there is a significant influence of self-efficacy, optimism, hope, and resilience on lecturers’ work engagement, and 3) perceived organization support presents as good mediator to connect the aforementioned variables.

Abstract

Abstract The present study examined the predictive effect of religious dimensions and religious doubt on psychological distress in emerging adult males and females. Participants included 637 (440 females) individuals from a religiously affiliated, Midwestern university. Data were collected online, and 66% of participants received extra credit for participating. Respondents completed the Personal Religious Inventory to assess their self-report of dimensions of religion; a single-item measure of religious doubt to understand the degree of certainty or doubt about their religious beliefs; and the Langner Symptom Survey to assess the severity of reported psychological distress. Results indicated that dimensions of religion and religious doubt significantly predicted psychological distress only in emerging adult females. Religion and religious doubt were not predictive of psychological distress for emerging adult males. The present study suggests the relationships among religious dimensions, religious doubt, and psychological distress may be unique for men and women and discusses possible reasons. Keywords: religious doubt, psychological distress, emerging adults, sex differences

Abstract

Abstract Health survey demonstrates that 5.3 million people each year experienced a premature death due to physical inactivity (Lee et al., 2012). Data from Department of Health (2004) revealed that in the United Kingdom more than 60% of adult males and 75% of adult females did not perform enough physical activity. Hence, to minimize this problem, currently, health practitioners are trying to encourage people to be more physically active, especially by promoting several types of exercise, including walking (Marshall et al., 2009; Hallal et al., 2012). Regular walking is one of the essential predictors for long-term physical and mental health benefit. Some recent studies mention that there are lots of advantages if adults can maintain their regular walking (Gunnell, Knuiman, Divitini, & Cormie, 2014; Morgan, Tobar, & Synder, 2010; Roe & Aspinall, 2011; Shiue, 2015; Nagai et al., 2011). Regular walking minimum 10,000 steps each day can burn as much as 400 calories so that it may help overweight or obesity people to reduce their weight (NHS, 2014). However, most of the people perceive walking as one form of transport rather than exercise; therefore, this reason discourages them to walk sufficiently for healthy life purpose (Darker et al., 2007).Keywords:  walking, walking benefits, walking barriers

Abstract

Abstract The aim of the study is to identify risk factors for occurrence of perinatal brain injury objectified in transfontanellar ultrasound (TFU) in a group of infants with high risk of neurodevelopmental sequelae. It’s a retrospective study, conducted at the neonatal intensive care unit of the Childrens Hospital of Rabat, during the period from 1 January to 31 December 2014. Were included newborns hospitalized for a medical condition with intrauterine croissance retardation (ICUR) more than 5 days and have survived. The neurological workup includes TFU made between day 2 and day 5 of life. Data analysis was performed on SPSS 18.0 software. The level of significance was p <0.05.  The percentage of newborns that developed neurological damage to the TFU was 36%. Patients with abnormalities in the TFU had a breakdown time, duration dependence of O2, duration of hospitalization and a higher frequency of nosocomial infections than patients without abnormality. The interest in the prevention of nosocomial infections is to try to shorten the duration of invasive ventilation, favoring fast relay noninvasive ventilation. Keywords: brain injury; newborns; prematurity, neurodevelopmental sequelae, trans-fontanellar ultrasound.
