Journal of Educational, Health, and Community Psychology (JEHCP) published an article, and empirical study that have originality, novelty and fill the gap of knowledge, that focused on educational psychology, health psychology and community psychology. JEHCP is an open access peer reviewed, multidisciplinary journal that publishes quality studies related to psychology. JEHCP is interdisciplinary in approach, and includes to reports of qualitative case studies, quantitative experiments and surveys, mixed method studies, action researches, meta-analyses, and discussions of conceptual and methodological issues. The field of educational psychology includes the effectiveness of educational interventions, the psychology of teaching, and the social psychology of schools as organizations, motor skills and other psycho-physiological processes; cognitive development involving areas such as problem solving, language acquisition; social, personality, and emotional development; self-concept and identity formation. The field of Health Psychology includes the stress-related ilnesses, the health coping strategy, resiliency, work on health attitudes and behaviour, health locus of control, quality of life in chronic disease, influence of emotion on health and health-related behaviours, psychological interventions in health and disease as well as psychological aspects of prevention. The field of Community Psychology includes research, evaluation, assessment and intervention, and review articles that deal with human behavior in community settings. Articles of interest include descriptions and evaluations of service programs and projects, studies of youth, parenting, and family development, methodology and design for work in the community, the interaction of groups in the larger community, and criminals and corrections.

Abstract

This research was conducted to find the correlation between permissive, authoritative, authoritarian parenting styles with smartphone addiction. This study involved 225 students of one private university in Jakarta from various faculties (67 male and 158 female) selected based on a non-probability sampling method - convenience sampling. The measuring instruments used in this study were the Smartphone Addiction Scale (SAS) developed by Kwon et al. (2013) and the Parenting Style scale developed by Baumrind (1971), and the personal information form used to collect sample personal data. The quantitative analysis of the research was carried out using the Pearson product-moment test, Spearman correlation’s test, descriptive test, t-test, and ANOVA test of difference. This study's results were there is a significant correlation of 0.320 between permissive parenting style and smartphone addiction, also there is a significant correlation of 0.300 between authoritarian parenting and smartphone addiction. Furthermore, there is no significant relationship between authoritative parenting and smartphone addiction. Keywords: Smartphone Addiction, Permissive Parenting Style, Authoritarian Parenting Style.

Abstract

This research focuses on picturing the characters strength among covid-19 survivors regarding to their HRQOL’ level. This research used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional survey design, with WHOQOL-BREF scale and VIA Strength Classification System as measurement tools. The sampling method was purposive sampling, with the criteria of the respondent are have been infected by the SARS-Cov-2 and living in Makassar City. There are 52 respondents were selected for the analysis process. The present study found that hope is one of the influential factors on HRQOL based on the rank order. The hope rank significantly increased along with the level of HRQOL. Thus, the development of rank in hope characters, it can be concluded that hope is an important character for covid-19 survivors in increasing their Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL). Keywords: Character Strength, Health Related Quality of Life, Covid 19 Survivors

Abstract

The association between witnessing domestic aggression and respondents' level of social integration and their proactive attitudes towards the integration of immigrants was assessed with a questionnaire in a sample of the Swedish-speaking minority in Ostrobothnia, Western Finland (n = 298; 208 females and 90 males). The age span was between 16 and 90 years with a mean age of 31.6 years (SD = 13.5). Respondents scoring higher than average on witnessing domestic aggression scored lower than others on the following scales measuring social integration: Access to Social Benefits, Positive Social Relations, and Trust in the Finnish Judiciary System. They also scored lower than others on the following scales measuring proactive attitudes towards the integration of immigrants: (the need for making) Cultural Efforts, Structural Efforts, and Openness to Diversity. They also tended to have a lower level of education than other respondents. The implications of the findings are discussed.

Abstract

This article reported a qualitative study that examined the use of debate to promote students’ reflective understanding of research ethics. The study was conducted in a qualitative methodology class for undergraduate students in psychology. Data were collected from 36 students attending the class by using an open-ended questionnaire. There were four questions in the questionnaire which were intended to gauge students’ understanding of ethical issues in qualitative research. The questionnaire was distributed twice, before and after the students engaged in the debate. During the debate, the students had to argue about dilemmatic research situations that reflected ethical issues in research. Thematic analysis was used to qualitatively examine and compare the students’ responses, before and after the debate. The findings suggested four themes that represented a shift in the students’ understanding of research ethics. These themes indicated the emergence of more contextual and reflective views of research ethics among the students.

Abstract

Educators and staff adapted to work-from-home setup amidst the covid-19 pandemic.  The transition to full-online classes and services leads to poor mental health. The current study explored the association of educator and staff personal characteristics, well-being, and mental health.  326 university employees completed the demographic profile, mental health, and well-being scales. Various hierarchical regression was conducted to determine if personal characteristics and well-being predict common mental health symptoms (depression, anxiety, and stress). Series of multivariate analyses of variance (MANOVA) was conducted to determine the difference between the levels of mental health symptoms according to mental health category, and personal characteristics. The results support the hypothesis with psychological and emotional well-being inversely predicting depression, anxiety, and stress. However, social well-being failed to serve as a significant determinant of common mental health symptoms. MANOVA obtained a significant difference with common mental health symptoms and mental health category and personal characteristics.

Abstract

This study aimed to adapt the TEIQue-SF 1.50 measuring instrument to the Indonesian culture. This research was conducted in two studies. In Study 1, the translation process and the equivalence testing were carried out, involving six translators, three expert reviewers, and ten laypeople for cognitive debriefing. Study 2 involved 200 subjects who were workers in Indonesia and tested the TEIQue-SF 1.50 measuring instrument with confirmatory factor analysis using AMOS version 22. The entire adaptation process referred to the International Test Commission (ITC) Guidelines for Test Adaptation 2016. The CFA results showed that the TEIQUE-SF 1.50 measurement model was fit to the one-factor model. Overall, this study showed that the Indonesian version of TEIQue-SF 1.50 was valid and reliable so that it can be used to measure the Trait Emotional Intelligence in Indonesia

Abstract

This research aims to describe the Intolerance of uncertainty (IU) among Indonesian workers during COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 351 workers in Java (64 males, 287 females) were involved as a participant. IU was measured using the Indonesian version of IUS-27. This study showed that most (41.9%) of the participants had a low level of IU; meanwhile, 36.8% of the participant had a high level of IU. The result of the difference test showed that there was a difference in IU between males and females (p=0.011) and between participants in the upper, middle, and lower SES (p=0.018). These findings show that females and people with low SES had a higher IU than other groups. These findings can be used as a reference by companies to identify and take preventive action toward workers who possessed a higher risk of developing a higher IU, especially in a situation full of uncertainty.

Abstract

The urgency of parental involvement in assisting children's learning from home is to increase children's academic success. The purpose of this study was to analyze the motivational role of parental involvement in accompanying children during learning from home in terms of parenting style. This empirical information can be used as a basis for determining parenting styles and motivation for parental involvement in accompanying children during learning from home. The participants of this study were parents totaling 282 with details of 42 people or about 15% were fathers, and 240 people or about 85% were mothers (Mean=1.85; SD=0.357). The research data was taken using a questionnaire with parental involvement motivation instruments (Katz et al., 2011) and parenting style instruments (Robinson et al., 2001). The test of hypothesis used the Doubled Regression Analysis Technique (SPSS 22). The results of this study indicate that authoritative, authoritarian, and permissive parenting styles are simultaneously effective in determining parental involvement motivation (R Square = 0.45, p < 0.01).

Abstract

Keterikatan kerja adalah faktor penting di organisasi, hal ini dikarenakan pengaruh dari keterikatan kerja terhadap kinerja individu maupun organisasi yang relatif besar. Oleh karena itu, penting bagi peneliti untuk mengetahui determinan atau faktor yang pada dasarnya mempengaruhi keterikatan seseorang terhadap pekerjaan mereka. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimanakah hubungan dari cinta pekerjaan, persepsi dukungan organisasi, dan kesejahteraan psikologis dengan keterikatan kerja. Partisipan pada penelitian ini adalah anggota kepolisian yang bertugas di Polda Metrojaya, dengan jumlah partisipan sebanyak 433 anggota. Partisipan berasal dari semua unit satuan kerja dengan masa kerja minimal adalah satu tahun. Teknik analisis yang digunakan adalah regresi linier berganda. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa secara bersama-sama cinta pekerjaan, persepsi dukungan organisasi dan kesejahteraan psikologis memiliki hubungan yang signifikan dengan keterikatan kerja dengan koefisien regresi sebesar R=.632 dengan sumbangan efektif ketiga variabel sebesar 39,9%.Kata kunci: cinta pekerjaan, kesejaheteraan psikologis, keterikatan kerja, persepsi dukungan organisasi

Abstract

Young adults are synonymous with the task of developing intimacy. This phase is inseparable from the problem of dating violence. This situation is a social stressor that causes a negative stress response commonly known as psychological distress. The purpose of this study is to provide treatment for 5 young adults who have experienced dating violence with online group intervention. The intervention design was carried out for seven 60-90 minutes sessions. The evaluation was done using observation, DASS, and BDI-II. Friedman’s test showed a significant result for depression (BDI-II, χ2F = 6.533, p = .038; DASS, χ2F = 6.533, p = .038) and anxiety (χ2F = 6.000, p = .050), and a non-significant result for stress (χ2F = 3.500, p = .174).
