The type of research used is descriptive qualitative with case study design. The results showed that the community around Alas Purwo National Park has local wisdom in the form of a number of traditions, rules or restrictions that are still valid for generations which are then maintained and obeyed until now. Abstract

Globalization cannot be detached from the processes and results of global interconnections. As one of the most remarkable products of globalization, the internet appears to have become an important part of many people’s lives. Among the youth, social media is of particular prominence. This study explores the engagement of a group of Indonesian university students aged 20 to 23—also known as the Generation Z—in using social media. The study specifically attempted to inquire into ways in which they perceive social media to impact their lives.  Questionnaire and individual interviews were used as data collection techniques. Analysis of the data pointed to a high degree of ‘addiction’ to social media use among students in general.  The students also revealed both positive and negative impacts of social media use, thus confirming the idea that social media is a double-edged sword that needs to be dealt with carefully and critically.

Abstract

Many things change in society as a result of being influenced by technology, one of which is social movements. Increasingly sophisticated technology can drive or present social movements in society. Based on these conditions, this article examines the existence of technology that can produce a social movement in society. In addition, this article uses social solidarity theory; mechanical and organic Durkheim, with a view to seeing the solidarity that appears in social movements in the digital era. This article uses a qualitative research method with a narrative research approach. The result is that social movements in the digital era only prioritize mechanical solidarity, without ensuring equal distribution of awareness of the individuals or groups involved. On the other hand, a social movement in the digital era requires organic solidarity to be able to maximize the goals of social movements.

Abstract

AbstractThe purpose of this study was to examine gender performance, gender identity and gender stigma experienced by cosplayers in Malang City. Gender performance that occurs repeatedly in a certain period of time is able to create a gender identity. Gender identity is perpetuated based on the repetition of gender performance in the lives of cosplayers. In his life, a cosplayer has gender differences in his life. There are gender differences when they become cosplayers and when they are in their social life. The existence of differences made by a cosplayer raises a problem. The problem experienced by cosplayers is stigma. Stigma is often experienced by cosplayers who have two genders in their lives. Gender changes that keep repeating make people accuse that a cosplayer is not a normal person. The intended abnormality leads to the sexuality of a cosplayer. The research method used in this study is phenomenology with the data generated is a description of the cosplayer's experience in playing her gender, forming her gender identity to the stigma attached to her body. Collecting data by means of observation, interviews and documentation. The result of this research is that a cosplayer's gender identity is formed based on continuous repetition. Gender performance is one of the processes of gender identity formation. The gender performance that is displayed is from imitating the character or character he likes. Gender performance is the cause of cosplayers getting stigma from their social environment. The stigma attached to this cosplayer then crosses gender in the form of sexual deviation.

Abstract

Religion has a considerable contribution to the creation of present Bangladesh and Indonesia. Historically, religious communalism is common in these two regions and its presence is visible to date. Like other countries, both countries are moving more toward digitalization with a good number of digital migrants, making the internet a digital public sphere. Like offline society, online is now becoming a place of religious dakwah and contentions as well. Digital space offers both opportunities and challenges for the democratic religious public sphere. This article discusses the similarity and differences of online religious public spheres between Indonesia and Bangladesh. The research was conducted in 2021 observing social media particularly Facebook. This research finds that the online religious public sphere witnesses online piety, religious deliberation, the spread of religious hoaxes, and Islamism. While in Bangladesh, online disinformation leads to religious communalism and offline violence against religious minorities, in Indonesia, the digital public sphere is largely dominated by religious discourses argumentation among Muslims and the rise of post-Islamism. The online public sphere of both countries similarly witnesses the rise of hoaxes, post-truth, and banal religion.
