Abstract

The resistance of public institutions to share and disseminate public information, and the limited authority of the Public Information Commission of West Kalimantan, may cause the lack of transparency of public institution. To overcome it, innovative efforts and active involvement of many stakeholders including civil society organizations are needed. In 2017-2018, many innovative products to overcome the lack of transparency of public institutions were produced by Public Information Commission of West Kalimantan and local civil society organizations. In the same year, the local government was awarded as the most transparent provincial government. The main question is how the collaboration between the Public Information Commission of West Kalimantan and local civil society organizations can be maintained to be sustainable, because each actor has the same purposes. The research purposes are to identify the needs for collaboration and the opportunity for sustainable collaboration. The results showed that the opportunity is possible with some requirements to build and maintain sustainable collaboration.

Abstract

This qualitative case study aimed to examine the contribution of Tukuneno Catholic youth in alleviating poverty and unemployment by increasing income through efforts to develop the pig farming sector. Through the development of the sector, it was expected to reduce the number of underprivileged people or distance them from the poverty trap so that it could indirectly help lessen the work of local governments in decreasing poverty. The role of religion through the Catholic Church was highly hoped as a government partner in human resource development so as efforts to solve social problems, especially poverty, can be resolved and have a positive impact on the physical and mental development of the nation and state. The Catholic Church, utilizing the Socio-Economic Development Commission of Atambua Diocese (KPSE-KA), tried to embrace Catholic youth by funding the effort until local potentials could be developed. The results of the study showed that previously unemployed young people now have side income and can open their own businesses thanks to the empowerment training conducted by KPSE-KA

Abstract

Recovery process of substance use disorders requires comprehensive approach. The Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (Badan Narkotika Nasional/BNN) provides Therapeutic Community (TC) rehabilitation service. TC approach is about community that faces common issue, gather together to support each other to overcome the issue. Although TC program uses community approach, it is not yet accommodating client’s needs. For that, BNN developed an integrated individual service through community approach called “Moving Class”. Moving class is not a new approach. It is widely used in basic education, where students are moving out from their class and actively seeking a particular and designated class with particular topic, according to the schedule.  Moving class in this context is modeling same approach. Standard approach provided knowledge and information sessions related to addiction through classical, where facilitator come to the class full of clients. and delivers the subject. While moving class ask clients to determine their own topic based on their own needs and ask client to find out the venue of its topic. So client have to actively move from spot to spot. They also need to make an adjustment to each class, both to the facilitator and their peer in the same class. As BNN’s mission is to provide evidence-based services, there is need to do systematic review to clinically assess “Moving Class” method. The study question is whether Moving Class method offers better behavioral changes in recovery process compared to the standard TC. This study used mixed method approach with quasi experimental design, whereby 34 participants in intervention arm received Moving Class intervention and 43 participants in standard of care (SOC) arm received standard TC. We used instruments like Client Evaluation of Self Treatment of Texas Christian University and Change Assessment Scale of University of Rhode Island to evaluate the behavioral changes. Results showed that participants in intervention arm experienced inclination to receive treatment, more participation in rehabilitation process, maintained good relationship in counseling, were able to identify problems. Also, the number of participants had had mental health issues during treatment declined. This study proved that Moving Class method provided improved behavioral changes compared to the classical one.

Abstract

This study explored how alleged surveillance by the authorities was presented, responded to, and impacted journalists' activism. Employing the Panopticon framework, it is expected that those who become the object of surveillance change their behavior to become more submissive to authority. By means of a series of in-depth interviews with two print media journalists and one media researcher, it was found that journalists were threatened by the “disturbance” that befell them. However, this would not change them in conveying the public interest. They also adapted to the threats that came about. Many interview subjects refused to participate in this study because of the sensitivity and potential risks they received from the discussion.

This research was carried out utilizing a qualitative method with case studies as an effort to explore the main data. This method was accompanied by looking at previous studies and related documentation as supporting data.

Therefore, it is essential to study how a conceptual review of the measurement of BUM Desa development. The purpose of this research is to carry out a literature study to determine the conceptual description of the development of BUM Desa. This study uses a non-systematic literature review method by exploring the literature and the results of previous studies related to the development of BUM Desa. The results of the study show that BUM Desa is a business entity that has the characteristics of a social enterprise, commercial institution, and local enterprise that form an integral part of the management of BUM Desa. Measuring the development of BUM Desa needs to consider these three characteristics in compiling its parameters and indicators. Therefore, BUM Desa can be said to be developing if it has succeeded in running social enterprises, commercial enterprises, and local enterprises. There is no standard in measuring the development of BUM Desa that can be used as a reference in general, so there are many different thoughts on the matter. Alternative parameters that need to be considered in measuring the development of BUM Desa include social value, civil society, innovation, financial perspective, customer perspective, business process perspective, growth and learning perspective, local potential and local wisdom.
