Abstract

The growth of tourist regions often indicates a decline of the environmental carrying capacity, includingthe confl ict regarding the use of space and its carrying capacity. The uncontrolled spatial growth andresources use is the result of the increasingly development-oriented policy which cause damage toenvironmental functions. Consideration of the use of space and natural resources advantage is needed inorder to properly consider the issue of carrying capacity. Research is needed to defi ne the proper use oftraffi c signals in connection with the above problem; it is alsoimportant to analyze the region’s carryingcapacity, which can defi ne its maximum tolerance and fl exibility of capacity. The long-term purpose isto improve tourists’ satisfaction with the area. There are (2) two variables considered: (1) the regionalgrowth; (2) the ecological carrying capacity. The research sample consists of four villages in the Pakemregion (Kaliurang area) and Merapi Volcano National Park (TNGM), DIY.

Abstract

The multicultural paradigm has become a frequent topic of discussion as its key values con-cerningthe spirit of respecting differences. The fact that differences are commonly considered a threat in Modernistphilosophy has led particularity space becoming increasingly negated. In an Indonesian context, multiculturalism has a long historical basis, one tied inexorably with the nation’s nature as an absoluteconstructed from plural complexity. Hence, multiculturalism should be involved in every cultural activity,at any time and in any context, including the Fine Arts. Within this discipline, multiculturalism hasbeen the main concern, considering that the Fine Arts deal with creativity and aesthetic terminologieswhich cannot be separated from the discussion of differences. What then becomes the main concern is thefact that this multicultural aspect has unconsciously become a quo-vadis reality in other cultural mainstreams.

Abstract

What happens with ‘’Reformasi’’ (the Reform Movement/ Era)? After tha fall of Soeharto’s New Order regime, Indonesia come into chaotic situation with many religious and ethnic conflicts. Separatism has erupted and corruption has been so rampant. The “door” of democracy opens, and both Islamists and nationalists take part in the political game. The results have been, however, transactional politics, bad governance and uncertainty. A question should be raiseed: is it irreconcilable between the nationalists and the islamists? What is happening when the political games are plyed by both parties is basically the competition of corruption. They are stealing “people resources and welth of the nation”. Islamists do the same as the nationalists stealing power (corruption). The business world is corrupted. Businessmen are in collusion with politicians, rulers, and bureaucrats. They do not care anymore about the fate of the people and the country.

Abstract

Abstract

Development as a process of life change should involve communities as intergral elements. People should not only be regarded as objects of development. The paradigm of the bottom up planning expects people to act as both the subject and object of development. In the context of the development of rural tourism, the planning process should involve the local communities from the beginning. Dieng Plateau as a tourist site has a diversity of attractions, and tourist-oriented villages are designed by local communities to complement the tourist attractions in Dieng. This Study focuses on the participation of the communities in western Dieng in developing tourist villages in their area.Various stages of the planning are completed collectively and then put into action together. By applying action research methods, this study has the following results: (1) the identi cation of problems in the development of rural tourism, (2) the mapping of the potential of rural tourism, and (3) the identi cation of potential inter-agency networking to support sustainable rural tourism in western Dieng.
