Abstract

Intellectual intelligence is not the only main focus of education but it is also the ability to think critically and read critically as a key element in preparing future generations. This research aims to investigate the impact of parenting styles on the development of children’s critical thinking, critical reading, and multiple intelligences in the educational context. The data collection techniques used were interviews and observation. The research data validity used source and technical triangulations. The research participants were elementary to middle school-level children who came from different parenting styles. Democratic parenting style appears as a strong factor to influence the development of children's critical thinking and critical reading skills. Parents who open the discussions, provide encouragement to question information, and provide space for exploration against the ideas at home, are positively correlated with higher levels of children's critical thinking. In the context of multiple intelligences, a democratic parenting style is also proven to play a key role. This research also provides limitations, especially in terms of the generalization of findings because it uses a case study design with a limited sample.

Abstract

Classroom Action Research on VA SDN class students in natural science learning was based on initial observations, which show the students' low creativity when the teacher was still dominant in explaining the material and many students were still sitting silently. The average student's activity level is only 50%. This shows that students' creativity is still low. Therefore, the learning model that can increase students' creativity, especially in natural science learning, is Project-based Learning (PJBL). This research is Classroom Action Research to determine the effect of the PJBL model on increasing VA elementary students’ creativity. This research was conducted at SD Negeri 66/IV Jambi in April 2023. The research data was collected by observing student creativity in the learning process, teacher interviews, and documentation. The research data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The research results indicate that using the PJBL model in the learning process can increase student creativity. This improvement can be seen in data analysis for each meeting cycle. The first meeting in cycle I was 35% and the second meeting was 65% with an increase of 30%. In cycle II, the first meeting was 85% with an increase of 20% and the second meeting was 100% with an increase of 15%.

Abstract

Beginning reading activities have always been taught since elementary education in grade 1. However, not all students have the ability to read from the start of elementary school. Because every student has a different background and condition when they enter elementary school. Therefore, initial reading skills need to be redeveloped through teaching that is implemented with learning models and media presented by teachers or educators. When reading, the eyes will recognize the word while the mind connects it with its meaning. In order t o create good relations between educators, students and parents of students. preparation of learning objectives is very important in the series of learning design development. At this stage, the teacher will determine the learning objectives that become a reference for determining the type of learning materials, learning strategies, learning methods, and learning media that will be used in the learning process. Learning materials can not only be channeled through material books, but the development of learning media in this 2-dimensional form can also be an innovation in developing models and teaching materials in class. The results showed that learning activities in class I still used simple media in reading activities. Not all students have the ability to read the beginning. Animated videos for beginning reading are appropriate for use in classroom learning activities.

Abstract

The suboptimal environmental awareness among students is one of the reasons for the environmental issues faced by society. To improve this, proper learning is needed that fosters environmental care attitudes. This is the reason why research aimed at examining the effect of activity-based project-based learning on environmental care attitudes was conducted. This type of research uses a pseudo-experimental method with a posttest-only control group design. The research subjects were fifth grade students, and the data collection methods were observation, interview, and questionnaire. The results of the t test showed that the activity-based PjBL model had a positive influence on students' environmental care attitudes. This finding is supported by the significance value (Sig.), which is less than 0.05, namely 0.00. Therefore, it is recommended that this learning model be considered as a potential solution to enhance students' environmental awareness and address the suboptimal state of environmental consciousness.

Abstract

One issue identified in this study pertains to the limited scope of character education, which tends to be predominantly focused on Islamic Religion and Pancasila Education Courses. In recent years, the Freedom of Learning-Independent Campus (MBKM) Program has emerged as a significant force in promoting character education throughout the educational continuum, from elementary to higher education levels. Consequently, applying education and character values is imperative in science education within the Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program (PGSD) at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Lampung (PGSD Study Program FKIP Unila). The present study employed a descriptive qualitative approach to analyze the sub-sub learning outcomes and learning indicators, afterward aligning them with 18-character values. The values encompassed are religiousness, honesty, tolerance, discipline, hard work, creativity, independence, democracy, curiosity, national spirit, love of the country, respect for achievements, friendliness, love of peace, love of reading, care for the environment, social care, and responsibility. Based on the research results, the 18-character values are spread across learning outcomes and student learning experience activities while attending science lectures at the PGSD Study Program FKIP Unila. The application or implementation of character education has the potential to instill students who possess not only academic proficiency but also exhibit humanitarian attitudes towards their peers, as well as foster a sense of mutual respect and cooperation among themselves.
