Scripta-English Department Journal is Journal that publishes academic articles that recognize successful engaged learning depends on effective partnerships between students, faculty, community agencies, administrators, disciplines, and more. The journal invites submission of 1) Research that emanates from or informs campus-community partnerships; 2) Studies co-authored by faculty, students, and/or community partners; 3) Literature, Teaching English as Foreign Language and Technology; and 4) Commentary on emerging trends, developments, and/or challenges. The publication of this journal aims to spread conceptual thinking or ideas and the research findings obtained in the field of English Education and Literature. This journal will publish twice a year; May and November. The scope of Scripta-Journal of English Language Education is on Research on English linguistics and literature. We focus on: 1) LANGUAGE SCIENCE (phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, mother tongue, language acquisition, ethnolinguistics, Critical Discourse Analysis/CDA, forensic linguistics). 2) LITERATURE SCIENCE (Oral literature and written literature with various approaches to structuralism, literary psychology, sociology of literature, post colonial. 4) Teaching English as a second or foreign language. The research's goals are to compare speaking achievement between extrovert and introvert personalities, and to see if there is a significant difference in speaking achievement between extrovert and introvert personality on the tenth grade at Senior High School 1 Pejagoan in the academic year 2020/2021. This study is classified as quantitative research with a non-experimental design. The population of this study is the tenth-grade students of SMA N 1 Pejagoan in the academic year 2020/2021. The researcher used a purposive selection strategy to select 60 students as her sample. The data was collected using a questionnaire, and the teacher provided the researchers with a copy of the student's speaking achievement as a document. There are 24 Yes/No questions in the form. To answer the issue and hypothesis statements, descriptive and inferential analysis techniques are used to analyze the data. The results of this study demonstrate that extrovert students' speaking achievement is in the "good" category, with a mean of 79.34, while introvert students' speaking achievement is also in the "good" category, with a mean of 77.50. Extroverts have higher English speaking scores at Senior High School 1 Pejagoan of the tenth grade. The result of hypothesis testing showed that the z-value (2526) computation result is higher than the ztable (1.96). Because Sig (2- tailed) is less than 0.05 (0.0070.05), Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Furthermore, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference in speaking achievement between extrovert and introvert students in the tenth grade of SMA N 1 Pejagoan in the academic year 2020/2021.

This research aimed to describe the teaching strategies in online English class and to know the extent of the strategies help the students in learning English during the COVID-19 pandemic at SMA Negeri 8 Purworejo in the academic year of 2020/2021. This type of research was field research with descriptive qualitative research because it described the strategies used by the teachers in SMA Negeri 8 Purworejo when teaching English. Data collection techniques in this study were interview, observation, and documentation. The results of the study shows that the two teachers used five strategies for teaching English during the COVID-19 pandemic namely using methods, approach, using media of online learning, grouping students, and measuring of competence. Both teachers used the same media through WhatsApp group. Secondly, some of the teachers’ strategies in teaching English of online classes could help students, especially practicing speaking and reading by recording videos.

The research aims at knowing the pedagogic competence in teaching writing to the second-semester English students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo and analyzing the students’ perspectives of the college teacher pedagogic competence in teaching writing. Besides, this research is also to find out and to solve students’ problems in teaching and learning activities. This research used descriptive qualitative in acquiring the result of questionnaires which was used to find out the college teacher pedagogic competence. The instruments of this research used close-response questionnaires and open-response questionnaires to describe the college teacher pedagogic competence in teaching writing in class and to describe the students’ perspectives of the college teacher pedagogic competence. The research subject was 35 English students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo. The thematic analysis was to analyze the research data. The result of this research showed that the students gave their positive perspective to the college teacher pedagogic competence in teaching writing. The students answered that the colege teacher had good ability in teaching writing in the class. The college teacher has a good score from the students. The college teacher get 94% Agree and 6% disagree for the college teacher pedagogical competence in teaching writing. The college teacher also get positive perspectives from the student’s answers about their open-response participants. This research also revealed that the college teacher pedagogic competence in teaching writing of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo was a very good category. The college teacher also used good methods to teach their material in the class. The students felt comfortable and interested in learning in the class. In addition, become more active and responsible.

The purpose of this study is to find out the difficulties faced by students when studying English in an online school and the solutions they use to overcome those difficulties. The objective of this descriptive qualitative research is to explain the real situation of eighth grade students' learning problems at SMPN 3 Satu Atap Karangsambung, with the researcher as the key instrument. Researchers used the WhatsApp application to disseminate a questionnaire and conduct interviews with respondents in order to collect data. In analyzing the data, the researcher detects and categorizes learning difficulties, displays and calculates the percentage of data using the original text in the form of an essay, and provides findings and recommendations after evaluating the data. The study's findings revealed five challenges that students face when studying English in an online education setting. The most common issue students have is increasing English vocabulary, which has an impact on the appearance of the other four obstacles. In addition, the majority of students utilized the same approach to overcome their learning difficulties, according to the findings. The findings of this study aid teachers in assessing the learning process in order to better meet the needs of students.

This study aims to find out rhetorical proof and rhetorical figure of repetition, to analyze the speech delivery strategy, and to explain the application of rhetoric in teaching speaking. This research belongs to qualitative research. The main instrument in this research was the researcher itself using documentation. The data of this research was taken from RM’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly in the form text and video. The unit analysis of this research was the transcript of RM’s speech and the video of the speech. The researcher analyzed the data using content analysis. The result of this research showed that RM used rhetorical proof logos (10%), ethos (42%), and pathos (48%) in his speech. He also provided rhetorical figure of repetition such as anaphora (45%), epistrophe (11%), mesodiplosis (22%), anadiplosis (11%), and conduplication (11%) to give his speech the touch of art. In delivering speech, he used speech delivery strategy, includes storytelling for 54%, tone of voice, pause, and body movement. Moreover, the result of the study in this research can be applied in English learning at the tenth grade, especially in spoken advertisement.

The purpose of this study is to improve students’ vocabulary skills through outdoor learning activity. This research was conducted in SMP Islam Ruhama, Cirendeu. The population of this research was seventh-grade students in academic year 2022/2023. The sample of this research was 7.1 consists of 24 students. The method of this study was quantitative method and using pre-experimental design. To collect the data, the researcher used pre-test and post-test as an instrument that given to the students. The data were analyzed by using the formula statistical computerization repeated measures (paired samples t-test) of SPSS V.28. The result score of the data indicated that the average in pre-test was (51,45). And the total average in post-test were (84,79). There was a significance different from the result post-test score was higher than pre-test score. Thus, it can be concluded that the Outdoor Learning Activity has a significant effect on the vocabulary skills of students in class 7.1 at SMP Islam Ruhama, Cirendeu.

The aim of this research is to find out the students' challenges in learning vocabulary and the effectiveness of teaching practice in students’ vocabulary mastery. This research used a qualitative research method with a descriptive qualitative research design. The data source in this research was taken by participants at SMP Islam Terpadu Assalaam, in class 9C, in the academic year 2022/2023. The researcher used checklist observation and semi-structured interviews to collect the data in this research. This research shows that students’ confidence and understanding are the main challenges of teaching practice for students in mastery of vocabulary in blended learning. Berfore using YouTube videos and Role-play activities, 3 of 6 students feel difficult and not interested to learn vocabulary. After using YouTube videos and Role-play activities, the result of the study shows that 5 of 6 participants need such interactive media. After learning vocabulary using YouTube videos and Role-play activities, 5 of the 6 participants are interesting to learn vocabulary. 5 of 6 participants feel Role-play and YouTube videos can help them to master vocabulary in pronouncing the words, building sentences and understanding how to use the words.

The purpose of this study is to determine how effectively the Listen English Practice App at SMP Islam Ruhama improves students' understanding of listening. The population of this research is eight²-grade students, and the sample is 27 students. The method of this study is experimental research with a pre-experimental design that applies the pre-test and post-test. In this study, the researcher used one class as an experiment. Data has been analyzed using a t-test, data analysis shows the average value of the pre-test is 51.29 and the post-test is 80.74. Interpretation of data shows that there are some significant differences between listening skills using Listen English Practice App and not using Listen English Practice App. This shows that the Listen English Practice App is influential for eight²-grade students junior high school students of SMP Islam Ruhama. An option in learning media is the Listen English Practice Application; it has a positive impact on the research and can encourage students to study English.

Abstract. This research aimed to analyze about a story entitled pacman by viastro on tumblr social media, which tried to find out the kinds of language style are mostly used in pacman story on tumblr. This research focused on Martin Joos theory which discussed about language style. There are frozen style, formal style, consultative style, casual style, and intimate style. This study was conducted using a descriptive qualitative method in which the data was collected by reading the whole story then finding out the conversation that contains language style. Later on, the researcher classified them based on the types of language style that were found on the conversation, then finding the dominant type of language style. After conducting the analysis, this study showed that there were three types of language style from five types of language style according Martin Joos. They were consultative, casual, and intimate style. Casual was found as the most dominant types of language style in the story with 10 data, intimate with 6 data, and consultative 2 data. Finally, the reseacher hopes that this study will be useful for the future improvement of studying literature, especially about language style.

The use of mother tongue in English class has advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the function of the use of Sundanese language in learning English, as well as the views of students regarding the use of Sundanese language in English classes at MA Miftahussa'adah in grade 11 science and social studies. The methodology used in this study is a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data collection techniques in this study through observation, and interviews. The results showed: 1) The function of the use of the Sundanese mother tongue in learning English is as an introduction, explanation, expressing feelings or emotions and providing motivation, 2) Students have positive perception of the use of Sundanese in learning English. This study provides us with information about the use of mother tongue in the classroom. From the students we can see that the use of the mother tongue should not be completely eliminated but can only be minimized, this is to maintain the comfort of students in learning English. And so that students better understand well and easily the material taught by the teacher.
