Abstract

 The presence of the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015 is the free market that provides the opportunity to continue to innovate and enhance creativity so that they can compete in the global competition. These opportunities provide an opportunity for the development of creative industries based languages namely literature. The literary work is the result of human creativity will be full of ideas, feelings and messages. The literary work has similarities with the creative industries which are both based on the work of human creativity and full of cultural nuances. However, both have differences on the process of creation, literary works were created for the sake of form and literary interests while the creative industries are created based on the needs of the market both as a representation of culture as well as entertainment media. This study aims to identify the role of literature as one of the creative industry products to ASEAN Economic Community. It is a qualitative study that relates some theories in the role of a literary work as a product of the creative industries to the ASEAN Economic Community. The data were collected by library research. The findings showed that; 1). The literary work has an important role as a cultural product that is capable of being a cultural ambassador in ASEAN, 2). Literary works such as novels and movies is a language-based creative industry product as potential commodities that were able to take good advantage of foreign exchange for the country as well as royalties for its creators, 3). Literary product such as novels and movies as entertainment products are able of providing promising business opportunities in ASEAN.Keywords: Asean economic community, creative industry, literary work

Abstract

This research aims to estimate and get to know more about self-confidence factors that may affect to English speaking proficiency level for Indonesian young learners. The researcher used a qualitative method. In this research, the primary data was collected by focusing on the aspects and points that the researcher wanted to observe about. The primary data was used as a model and framework of the conceptual learning and teaching through the speaking proficiency level. In addition, the main object for this research is about Indonesian young learners towards the English speaking proficiency level. The researcher hopes that there will be significant results based on the primary data that will show the impact of self-confidence to influence the speaking proficiency level by Indonesian young learners. Therefore, the final result of research will be meaningful for the future researches in the similar study. It goes the same to the teachers and students that participate in teaching and learning English.

Abstract

Tradisi paraji bagi masyarakat Pameungpeuk, Garut selatan merupakan bagian dari budaya tradisi persalinan secara turun-temurun sejak zaman dahulu. paraji adalah sosok perempuan atau laki-laki yang memiliki kemampuan membantu persalinan sejak masa kehamilan, proses, dan pasca persalinan. Kemampuan seorang paraji diyakini diperoleh secara turun-temurun dan memiliki kemujaraban dalam setiap do’anya bagi masyarakat sekitar. Hadirnya tenaga kesehatan saat ini tidak menyurutkan masyarakat dibeberapa Desa di Pameungpeuk, Garut selatan untuk beralih dari praktik persalinan dengan paraji. Sebagian masyarakat Pameungpeuk saat ini merasa kehadiran paraji tidak hanya memberikan pertolongan pada proses persalinan saja akan tetapi ia juga memberikan kepercayaan dan kemujaraban dalam setiap ritual yang dilakukannya. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengeksplorasi kepercayaan dan tradisi persalinan masyarakat Pameungpeuk, Garut selatan untuk menggunakan jasa paraji pada saat masa, proses, dan pasca persalinan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan jenis deskripsi analisis. Teknik pengumpulan data penelitian ini berdasarkan pada hasil observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi yang bersifat audio dan visual. Adapun temuan penelitian ini yaitu, (1) keyakinan masyarakat Pameungpeuk, Garut Selatan pada tradisi paraji persalinan dan pantangan selama masa kehamilan hingga pasca persalinan, dan; (2) upaya masyarakat Pameungpeuk mempertahankan tradisi paraji yang telah berlangsung secara turun-temurun. Abstract

Education plays an important role in the formation of human character. One of the keys to successful students who have a strong personality is the selection of learning material. This study aims to explain that moral literacy in the novel The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling in the form of ethical sensitivity, ethical reasoning abilities, and moral imagination. This research is a qualitative descriptive type and uses an objective approach. The theory used is Nancy Tuana's Moral Literacy. The results showed that the form of ethical sensitivity in The Jungle Book is in the brotherhood and heroic action The form of ethical reasoning is in the reasoning for the nature of gratitude and the nature of the consequences of revenge. Moral imagination lies in brotherhood and self-defense efforts. Thus, moral literacy in the novel can be an alternative material for moral literacy the which is useful in the development of students' character.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine whether Graphic Organizer has a significant effect on students' ability to speak. This study used the VIII.F students of Al-Azhar 12 Junior High School Rawamangun as the research sample. This class consists of 22 students. To choose the sample, the writer used a simple random sampling technique. From the population. The method used in this study was quantitative and the design used was a pre-experimental study with the technique of one group pre and post-test design. The instrument used in this study was oral tests. Then for that reason, the writer used the Weighting Table from Adam and Frith so that the measurement could be more accurate. The result of this research explains that students’ pre-test score is 72,36 and the post-test score is 81,45. The result of statistical hypothesis found out that the level of significance is higher than 0.000 < 0.005. This means H0 (Null Hypothesis) is rejected and H1 (Alternative Hypothesis) is accepted. Which means using the media Graphic Organizer is effective to improve students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate in detail the implementation of theme based instruction model  in teaching extensive reading. This study is classroom action research conducted at the fourth semester students’ English Educational Sciences, Educational Sciences Faculty, Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta with participant number are 40 students. Data obtained from the result of the test in each cycle. The findings showed that the learning process using theme based instruction model  in teaching extensive reading makes the students more participative and active in their classroom reading learning process, it is showed by their high participation  during the teaching is increased. Another finding revealed that there is significant influence toward the students’ extensive reading learning process from preliminary to cycle II stage in the research process. The average score of students at the preliminary stage is only 68 then it increased to 72 in the first cycle and increased significantly in cycle II with the amount of 83. It can be concluded that classroom action research is done by using of theme based instruction model in teaching extensive reading in the fourthsemester students of English Educational Sciences significantly helps the students in increasing about 21% improvement from pre-cycle to cycle II in their Extensive Reading course. This study recommends the continuation of using various teaching models for university students to improve their English language skills, especially English reading skill.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to decrease students' reading narrative text and effectiveness their reading level using literacy mapping students' from 8G of SMP Negeri 18 Depok. This study used a Quantitative Method with a Pre-Experimental design by implementing the design of pre-test and post-test. In this study, the writer used one class as the sample with a total of the students' are 30 students'. The data were collected by giving pre-test and post-test as the instrument. The result of the study was calculated using a t-test. The findings showed that the students' post-test scores (were was higher than pre-test scores. By using the t-test, the result of the t-table with degrees of freedom (df) 0.01 obtained 2.048. The findings reveal that these research successes to decrease students' reading narrative text and effectiveness their reading level using literacy mapping.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to prove the ability of students’ comprehension in measuring their difficulties of reading comprehension in junior high school level. This study was conducted towards students’ difficulties related to types of questions of reading comprehension. After analyzing the data from the test, the researchers concluded that the study in MTs 1 Muhammadiyah Ciputat had problems in reading comprehension. There are five sorts of the categories as difficult questions in reading comprehension. They are primary thought, making induction, finding reference, vocabulary, and detail data. The results of study revealed that students’ difficulties in answering reading questions were in comprehending main idea of reading (38%), finding reference (52%), making inference (52%), vocabulary (79%), and detail information (77%). The researchers also measured the level of difficulty in reading comprehension to figure out the students’ ability in comprehending the English text. As a result, most of the students had difficulty in determining the main idea.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the learning process and increase students' vocabulary skills in learning English using flashcard media in Class VII SMP An-Nurmaniyah. The research method used is classroom action research with the following stages: planning, implementation, observation and reflection. Data collection techniques used in this study are: (1) tests, (2) interviews, (3) observation. The results obtained from this study are that the implementation of the first action learning has not achieved maximum results, it appears that there are still students who are less involved in the use of flashcard media and there are still students who feel confused about what the teacher bothered so that the average score obtained by students in the first cycle was 68, with learning completeness around 72%. By looking at the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) that has been set at SMP An-Nurmaniyah, namely 65, there are 13 people who reach the completeness criteria, meaning only 72%, while according to the KTSP a learning is said to be complete if the completeness score obtained by students is 75% of the total the number of students. Meanwhile, the second cycle has increased with the average score obtained by students in the second cycle is 84, with learning completeness around 100%.

Abstract

The goal of this research was to proven that using Christopher Robin movie was effective to improve students narrative writing. In this era the English Language is very important, It is now becoming the most important language in the world. Almost all people from various countries around the world use it for communication, including schools that are continental Asia. There are four skills in English that every students have to mastery, there are: reading, listening, speaking, and writing. In this research focus on writing skill and the material is narrative text. This research has been conducted in Madrasah Aliyah Miftahul Umam. It used pre-experimental design that only used one experimental class that was contained 21 students in XII IPA, the data analyzed from quantitative method. To collected the data, this research used pre-test and post-test that given to the students. To improve students narrative writing, this research used Christopher Robin movie. That the students watched the movie after pre-test or before the post-test given. Movie will make students more interested and comfortable in learning to writing in a class. The results showed that the students mean pre-test was 61.52 and post-test mean was 89.80. t-score was obtained 18.025, and significant (2-tailed) was 0.00 lower that α = 0.05. Thus it can be said that the use Christopher Robin Movie to improve students narrative writing was effective.
