Abstract

Virtual education is a growing and evolving system that creates new opportunities for forming and upgrading people’s skills with a non-presential factor, which allows students from different regions and backgrounds to gain instant access to quality education and knowledge. In recent years, many online platforms have been joining to these new systems allowing to create a virtual environment, even professional institutions, such as colleges and universities, are offering their entire specialty in different online programs. Although, online education has evolved and improved since its apparition after the internet commercialization, many problems still remain unsolved and challenging its effectiveness; self-motivations and virtual drop-out are one of the common factor among virtual learners, besides the lack of required technology and resources in different places, especially in developing countries. Even there are problems, virtual education is changing the way how we consume educational content and it is helping to connect students and teachers all over the world in again-to-gain way, so in the coming years, its role is expected to be more critical in our education system.

Abstract

The aims of this research are to find out how the implementation of translation can improve the students’ reading skill and how the students’ responses to the use of translation method in the teaching and learning process. This research is a classroom action research. The participant is 39 students. The research instrument used is in the form of observation checklist, test, and questioners. The finding of the research shows that the implementation of translation improves the students’ reading skill in the teaching process and the test result. The result of evaluation which carried out in end of the cycle I obtained that the lowest score is 40 and the highest score is 82 then the average score is 58.1, cycle II gets the lowest score is 50 and the highest score is 85 then the average score is 60,9, and cycle III get the lowest score is 60 and the highest score is 85 and the average score is 65.8. Therefore, it can be concluded that the translation method can improve the students’ reading skill of grade VII D of MTs. Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta and the students’ responses are positive when the teacher applied translation method in teaching and learning process.

Abstract

Membaca, yang dianggap sebagai keterampilan berbahasa yang penting, adalah proses aktif dan integratif di mana pembaca mencoba menghubungkan apa yang mereka baca dengan apa yang telah mereka ketahui. Kesenjangan penelitian ini adalah beberapa siswa tidak tahu bagaimana memahami wacana secara tekstual. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendapatkan pemahaman yang lebih tentang efektivitas strategi Petunjuk Kontestual (SPK) dalam membaca beberapa bagian. Pertanyaan penelitian adalah apakah strategi ini efektif dalam pengajaran pemahaman membaca di Universitas. Siswa kelas dua di Universitas dipilih sebagai subjek dan dibagi rata menjadi dua kelompok; satu kelompok adalah kelompok eksperimen dan yang lainnya adalah kelompok kontrol. Ada beberapa prosedur yang dilakukan dalam pengumpulan data untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian; pertama, pre-test diberikan sebelum eksperimen dilakukan untuk memastikan apakah tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam kecakapan bahasa Inggris di dua kelompok mata pelajaran. Subyek diminta untuk menyelesaikan tes pemahaman bacaan yang terdiri dari empat puluh lima tes pilihan ganda dalam sembilan puluh menit. Kedua, setelah eksperimen dilakukan post-test dengan menggunakan tes yang sama untuk pre-test. Akhirnya, uji-t digunakan untuk menentukan apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam pencapaian pemahaman membaca antara kedua kelompok. Tingkat signifikan ditetapkan pada p = 0,05. Kesimpulannya adalah penggunaan SPK dalam pemahaman bacaan memberikan dampak yang besar terhadap pemahaman siswa.

Abstract

Penguasaan literasi digital dan kemampuan menyusun buku/bahan ajar berbasis teknologi menjadi sesuatu yang wajib dimiliki oleh para guru di era teknologi informasi seperti saat ini. Hal tersebut perlu agar para guru mampu melaksanakan proses kegiatan pembelajaran secara lebih menarik, fleksibel, terarah, dan mampu mencapai tujuan pembelajaran yang ditetapkan. Hal itu pula yang seharusnya dimiliki oleh para guru di SMP Muhammadiyah Jono, Purworejo. Oleh sebab itu, Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan memberikan pelatihan literasi digital serta penyusunan buku ajar berbasis teknologi bagi para guru SMP Muhammadiyah Jono, Kab. Purworejo. Pengabdian ini menggunakan perpaduan antara metode pelatihan dan metode difusi ipteks, yakni suatu kegiatan yang proses pelaksanaannya disertai dengan demonstrasi atau percontohan untuk menghasilkan keterampilan tertentu dan kegiatan yang tujuan akhirnya menghasilkan produk bagi kelompok sasaran/mitra. Hasil pengabdian ini menunjukkan bahwa para guru menunjukkan semangat dan antusiasme yang tinggi dalam usaha menguasai teknologi untuk meningkatkan kompetensi mereka dalam literasi digital serta menyusun buku ajar berbasis teknologi.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian studi kasus yang melihat kesalahan berbahasa dengan menggunakan teori wacana. Kesalahan yang diteliti adalah vidio youtube yang digunakan dalam pembelajaran ketika pandemi covid-19 di salasatu SMA di Kabupaten Blitar Jawa Timur. Hasil penelitian menemukan beberapa kesalahan mulai dari kesalahan fonologi, morfologi, sintaksis, dan wacana yang mempengaruhi pemaknaan dalam matematika. Hasil mengemukakan bahwa teks matematika masih ada yang belum kohesi dan koheren sehingga masih harus ada pelatihan terkait dengan penggunaan bahasa Indonesia yang baik dan benar. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode desktiftif dan teori analisis wacana deskriptif. Langkah penelitian yang dilakukan adalah  (1) memilih dan menentukan jenis wacan. (2) menentukan unit analisis, (3) mendeskripsikan (menganalisis) satuan data. Sampel yang didapat berasal dari vidio youtube dalam akun salasatu guru.Kata Kunci: Analisis wacana; Kesalahan Berbahasa; Soal Matematika  Abstract: This research is a case study research that looks at language errors using discourse theory. The error studied was the youtube video used in learning during the Covid-19 pandemic in one high school in Blitar, East Java. The results of the study found several errors ranging from phonological, morphological, syntactic, and discourse errors that affected meaning in mathematics. The results suggest that there are still mathematical texts that are not coherent and coherent so that there must still be training related to the proper and correct use of Indonesian. The approach used in this research is a qualitative approach with descriptive methods and descriptive discourse analysis theory. The research steps taken were (1) selecting and determining the type of discourse. (2) determine the unit of analysis, (3) describe (analyze) the data unit. The sample obtained came from the YouTube video in the sales one teacher's account. Keyword: Discourse analysis; Language Error; Math Problems.

Abstract

Abstract: This research is conducted to know the students’ reading comprehension and to find out whether or not use of vocabulary self-collection strategy (VSS) effective in teaching reading of SMP 25 Purworejo in the academic year of 2019/2020. The population of this research is 186 students of the eighth grade students of SMP 25 Purworejo in the academic year of 2019/2020 and the amount of sample is 30 students. From the computation, the result showed that the mean score of pre-test is 62.93 (sufficient category) and the mean of post-test is 77.07 (good category). It shows that the result of computation is t value obtained bigger than t table (3.705>2.000) it can be concluded that vocabulary self-collection strategy (vss)is effective to teaching reading Narrative text at the eighth grade students of SMP 25 Purworejo in the academic year of 2019/2020.Keywords: effectiveness, vocabulary self-collection strategy (vss), reading comprehension,narrative text.

Abstract

Tujuan dari pengabdian kepada masyarakat di SMAN 4 Purworejo adalah untuk membantu dan mendampingi para siswa kelas 12 mengatasi permasalahan menjelang diselenggarakannya Ujian Nasional Berbasis Komputer (UNBK) yaitu stres yang tinggi, tingkat kejenuhan juga tinggi, serta mood belajar yang cenderung rendah sehingga mereka memerlukan suatu sistem pembelajaran yang menyenangkan sekaligus meningkatkan kesiapan menghadapi Ujian Nasional khususnya Mata Pelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Solusi dari Tim Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat Prodi PBI UMPurworejo adalah dengan sistem pembelajaran di luar kelas (Outdoor Learning System) yang dikemas dalam bentuk permainan ala outbound yang terdapat 4 (empat) pos yaitu vocabulary corner, reading power, listening, dan grammar knowledge. Setelah pelaksanaan pengabdian, poin penting yang bisa diperoleh yaitu tingkat stress cenderung turun, tingkat kebahagiaan siswa naik, mood siswa cenderung naik, serta tingkat pengetahuan Bahasa Inggris para siswa dilihat dari rata-ratanya juga naik dari 72 ke 84 sehingga penggunaan Outdoor Learning System ini cukup efektif.

Abstract

Permasalahan penguasaan teknologi dan lemahnya kompetensi bahasa Inggris sering dialami oleh guru pendidikan anak usia dini (PAUD). Hal ini dikarenakan sebagian besar guru PAUD bukan lulusan bahasa Inggris dan jarang menggunakan media digital dalam pembelajaran. Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo menyelenggarakan pelatihan literasi digital untuk mengatasi masalah yang dihadapi. Kegiatan pelatihan dilaksanakan secara daring melalui aplikasi Zoom. Sebanyak 35 (tiga puluh lima) guru PAUD berpartisipasi dalam kegiatan ini. Untuk mengetahui ketercapaian program dan respon peserta, wawancara terstruktur dilakukan setelah sesi penyampaian materi dan diskusi. Hasil wawancara menunjukkan bahwa peserta senang dan antusias mengikuti kegiatan pelatihan. Program PKM ini mampu memperkuat literasi digital dan meningkatan kompetensi guru dalam mengajarkan bahasa Inggris di tingkat PAUD. Pelatihan literasi digital lanjutan perlu diselenggarakan dengan menambah jumlah peserta yang berasal dari guru PAUD dan sekolah dasar.

Abstract

Given the significance of communication's role and function, namely as a bridge/message between the communicator (message sender) and the communicant (message recipient), an effective communication strategy is required so that communication can run meaningfully. Regarding the role and function of communication in the learning process, this is a note for teachers that should be considered. This research aims to provide benefits, particularly for teachers, so that they can implement effective communication strategies during the learning process in the pandemic era. This study employs qualitative research methods. This study employs a qualitative approach based on the literature review methodology. Several components must be considered when  implementing effective communication strategies in the learning process, including: 1) Systematic communication, 2) Communication methods for learning: how to organize messages so that the learning process works effectively and efficiently, and communication methods for learning: how to organize messages so that the learning process works effectively and efficiently. 3) Communication channels 4). Time management. In short, communication is effective when the sender's message conveys the same meaning as the message received and understood by the recipient. Similarly, communication with students, as a facilitator or imparter of knowledge, must be established so that the message conveyed can be well received by students, utilizing a variety of skills and efforts.

Abstract

Technology literacy and poor teaching competences are common weaknesses experienced by junior high school teachers. This is because most junior high school teachers rarely use technology-based media in developing learning materials. Lecturers of English Education Study Program, Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo held training on technology-assisted learning media to overcome the problems faced. The method used was covered four steps namely problem analysis, preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The training activities were carried out face to face at SMP N 22 Purworejo. A total of 36 (thirty six) teachers participated in this activity. To evaluate the training program's achievements and participant responses, close-response questionnaires and semi-structured interviews were conducted after the presentation and discussion sessions finished. The results of the interviews showed that the participants were happy and enthusiastic about participating in the training activities. This community service program is able to increase teacher competence in developing technology-based learning media. The output of this program was an article published in a national-accredited journal. Further training needs to be held by increasing the number of participants from junior and senior high school teachers.
