Abstract

Dalam mempelajari bahasa Mandarin, penguasaan nada dan kosakata merupakan hal yang sangat penting. Hal ini disebabkan  nada memengaruhi arti kata, berbeda nadanya akan berbeda pula arti suatu kata. Kosakata juga berpengaruh besar terhadap penguasaan suatu bahasa karena dengan penguasaan kosakata yang baik maka akan dapat mengkomunikasikan ide dan pikiran, selain dapat memperlancar  penguasaan terhadap bahasa Mandarin itu sendiri. Kesalahan dalam mengucapkan nada terjadi karena kesalahan karena transfer dan kesalahan perkembangan pembelajar serta kurangnya pelatihan yang intensif dan praktik penggunaan bahasa Mandarin secara ajeg.  Kesalahan karena transfer, sebagaimana diprediksi oleh analisis konstrastif, disebabkan oleh tidak-adanya nada atau intonasi yang berbeda dalam bahasa Indonesiadan kesalahan perkembangan disebabkan oleh proses pemerolehan bahasa Mandarin sebagai bahasa asing yang berlangsung tahap demi tahap. Untuk membantu mahasiswa mengatasi masalah tersebut pengajar perlu membuat mahasiswa memiliki kesadaran kebahasaan bahwa bahasa Indonesia berbeda dengan bahasa Mandarin dalam hal nada atau intonasi. Pengajar perlu memberikan latihan lebih banyak dalam menggunakan bahasa lisan.  Perlu diingat bahwa “drilling” dalam metode audiolingual sampai sekarang tetap merupakan teknik yang efektif bagi pengajaran pengucapan bahasa asing.  Faktor-faktor lain yang terkait dengan proses pengajaran perlu diperhatikan, dan bila perlu ditingkatkan kuantitas dan/atau kualitasnya dan dimanfaatkan secara maksimal.

Abstract

Request is one of speech act phenomena, which we encounter most frequently in everyday social interaction. When expressing a request, the speaker has an intention to the hearer to do something that is beneficial to him/her. In this circumstance, the speaker is impossing on the hearer; while the hearer has to pay cost of carrying out the request. Brown and Levinson claim request as one kind of face threatening acts (FTA). Because of the nature of request, politeness strategy must be applied when expressing a request. There are four super strategies of politeness strategy defined by Brown and Levinson, i.e. bald on record, positive politeness, negative politeness, as well as off record. There are some reasons underlying the use of certain strategies. They are the urgency of the request itself, the relationship between the speaker and the hearer, not to mention the speaker’s willingness to lessen the imposition on the hearer. Yet, the use of the politeness strategies do not always work well. In other word, the speaker does not always gain what he wants.

Abstract

Sebuah karya sastra dapat dikategorikan sebagai sebuah karya sastra populer apabila berhasil mendapatkan perhatian dari masyarakat luas. Masalah yang muncul kemudian adalah bagaimanakah cara untuk menganalisis karya sastra tersebut? Apakah dapat dilakukan dengan cara yang sama dengan yang  dilakukan pada apa yang disebut sebagai ”High Literature”? Oleh sebab itu, studi ini ditujukan untuk menganalisa sebuah karya sastra populer yang ditulis oleh Christopher Paolini, berjudul Eragon dan menemukan formulanya.

Abstract

Penelitian ini adalah kajian pustaka yang bertujuan menemukan pola ironi yang dipakai penulis drama dalam mempertahankan alur cerita dan menarik minat pembaca untuk menuntaskan pembacaan karya sastra. Ditemukan bahwa alur komedi dalam  Pygmalion karya George Bernard Shaw dan She Stoops to Conquer karya Oliver Goldsmith didominasi oleh  ironi dramatik berupa kesalahan beberapa tokoh dalam mengidentifikasi  dan kesalahan dalam menginterpretasi tindakan atau sikap  tokoh lainnya..

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze relation between language and logic in thinking critically by some stages. Some of them are: explanation about language performance which is started by reception and perception continued with the expression of mind, memory and language memory. Then input stage, storing stage, and output stage. The next explanation are logic as think science, logical barrier, basic principles on logic, thinking critically as an ability requires to get knowledge. Knowledge is getting through scientific method. Scientific method is the way of how mind works. Trough that way production of knowledge hopefully has particular characteristics which demanded by scientific knowledge that are logical and tested. In order to reach the aims, scientific method should combines deductive ways in thinking to develop the knowledge.

Abstract

Character and conflict are the important elements in a play. Conflict is dominant aspect in this play. The structure of this play is best seen through a series of confrontation between Blanche DuBois and Stanley Kowalski. The conflict is social conflict. Blanche DuBois comes from aristocracy family, and Stanley Kowalski comes from lower class. The factors of the conflict are the background and character. The background differences are heritage, wealth, and education. The character differences can be traced from astrological aspect, color preference and light avoidance. The conflict between Blanche and Stanley is caused by their different worlds.

Abstract

The male main character presented as the narrator in Poe’s The Tell Tale Heart is the interesting one described by Edgar Allan Poe. He is described as the character who suffers from the mental illness. He feels really anxious as he sees the old man’s eyes so that the feeling drives him to murder and mutilate the old man. How are the symptoms and type of mental illnes experienced by the narrator described by the short story? and how do the psychological problems give impacts to his life? are the two questions formulated in the study to understand the mental illness from which the male main character suffers. Here, literature can be discussed based on the psychological perspective. Hence, it needs literature and psychology and psychological criticism. Furthermore, to discuss further about what happens with the narrator’s psychology, it needs the psychological theory focusing to schizophrenia. Qualitative research is established to analyze the narrator’s utterances as the data. It is described that the narrator experiences anxious, delusion, and auditory hallucination. The two symptoms prove that he suffers from disorganized schizophrenia. This syndrome is marked by the narrator who experiences disorganized speech and behaviour. This syndrome makes the narrator desires to kill, kills, mutilates, deposits the old man without knowing the reason, and admits the deed.

Abstract

Cia-Cia language is one of endangered local languages. Its status as a local language along with the bad condition of its speakers put this language in a highly risk of extinction. The latest policy issued by Bau-Bau’s government to teach Hangeul writing system to Cia-cia people have worsen Cia-Cia’s condition. Not only the policy is so controversial, but also can speed up the extinction process of Cia-cia language. This papers aims to expose how danger it is to let the Bau-Bau’s government continue the policy. Once the policy launched, we may count the Cia-Cia’s extinction time backward.

Abstract

Tokusuke as the main characters in Diary of mad old man hasmany conflicts with other members of his family. Thus by understanding the conflicts around him, the writer can get full understanding about the motivation that causes the conflicts in his family. The motivations behindthose conflicts are mostly caused by his blind love to Satsuko. His obsession and his strong sexual desire make him against the whole family. Thus his roles in his family show the cultural changes in Japanese families.

Abstract

 Identitas budaya pada suatu masyarakat merupakan ciri khas dan penanda terhadap eksistensi dan dimensi masyarakat dalam kehidupannya. Kehidupan masyarakat itu sendiri dalam makna luas berada dalam paradigma refleksi dan representasi dalam alur norma, ideologi, tradisi maupun estetika yang melekat di dalamnya, dan seharusnya tidak ada sekat dikotomi  dalam ruang dan waktu dalam menerjemahkan esensi kehidupan. Hidup adalah suatu bentuk integritas dan tanggung jawab dengan tatanan nilai-nilai, harapan, cita-cita dan masa depan.             Penelitian ini merepresentasikan kehidupan manusia dalam mengikuti, mendorong, menyertai bahkan berjuang bagaimana meraih identitas budaya dalam konteks rasionalitas dan sejarah. Diwarnai dengan masalah-masalah stratifikasi sosial, ras dan kesetaraan gender, novel ini mengungkapkan bentuk-bentuk paradoksal dan terurai tajam dalam struktur oxymoron yang berimplikasi pada kajian budaya masyarakat tertentu sehingga menemukan jati dirinya.             Analisis penelitian ini dalam pendekatan teori post-modernisme yang dikembangkan sebagai reaksi terhadap era kemapanan modern dan seluk-beluknya, sedangkan data-data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan metode kualitatif dengan aplikasi teknik kualitatif interpretatif melalui langkah-langkah: data dibaca secara menyeluruh, penelaahan data secara komprehensif, interpretasi makna data, dan analisis data kritis.
