Abstract

This paper explores the challenges faced by Muslims in responding to the rise of the metaverse, derived from secondary data sources such as journals and articles. The discussion begins with the background of the growing discourse surrounding the development of the metaverse, particularly driven by technology leaders who aggressively promote this new digital realm. The metaverse refers to an immersive, 3D internet world that is set to revolutionize digital interaction and socialization. As this new virtual space takes shape, it promises to bring significant innovations in communication, education, and business. However, it also raises concerns about the emergence of new forms of immoral behavior, such as addiction, cybercrime, and exploitation, which can affect individuals and societies at large, including the Muslim community. The paper argues that the metaverse's impact on Muslims will be profound, and it is crucial for Muslims to confront these challenges in a way that aligns with Islamic values. By understanding the metaverse’s potential and pitfalls, Muslims can navigate this technological shift wisely, ensuring they harness its benefits while safeguarding their moral and spiritual integrity. The paper suggests that a balanced approach, grounded in Islamic teachings, will enable Muslims to make the best use of the metaverse while minimizing its negative consequences.

Abstract

The Arabs before Islam had an advanced civilization, such as the Mesopotamian Civilization in Iraq and the Nile Valley Civilization in Egypt. Additionally, there were kingdoms in the Arabian Peninsula and the Levant. They possessed qualities that prepared them to receive and convey the divine message, as Allah says: {You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind} (Ali Imran: 110). However, Allah also described some of their behaviors as "jahiliyyah" (ignorance), not in the sense of lack of knowledge, but ignorance of divine laws, such as worshiping idols. Islam came to reform Arab society and build a righteous community. One of its major reforms in religion was the call to monotheism and the abandonment of idol worship, along with the establishment of hudud laws, ethical transactions, and lawful work. Islam also made zakat obligatory to combat greed and assist the poor, prohibited usury, and regulated inheritance to ensure justice. Additionally, Islam fought against exploitation and extravagance and supervised state officials to prevent corruption. In the field of knowledge, Islam encouraged the pursuit of learning, reflection, and contemplation, as stated in Allah’s words: {Read in the name of your Lord who created} (Al-‘Alaq: 1-5). Politically, Islam united the Arabs who were previously divided and under Byzantine and Persian colonization. The Prophet Muhammad SAW issued the Charter of Medina, which established rules for shared governance. Islam brought a significant transformation to the mindset of the Arabs, shifting them from tribal fanaticism to religious and political unity. This facilitated the establishment of an Islamic state that rapidly expanded to reach the borders of China. The tolerant teachings of Islam united beliefs and social systems between Arabs and other nations, making the Arabs the bearers of Islam to the entire world.

Abstract

The metaverse is a 3-dimensional (3D) digital ecosystem that allows individuals to conduct communication and social interactions, financial transactions, and various other interactions using digital technology. Entering this metaverse era, many new behaviors are formed and old cultures are abandoned. This change in the way humans live to fulfill their various needs has made the dynamics of social life change from direct real interaction to digital. This of course provides convenience as well as challenges in human civilization. This research discusses the challenges and opportunities of the metaverse for Indonesian society. The research method used is a literature study by collecting library data, reading and recording, and managing research materials with the literature design used is a narrative review. The results showed that the emergence of the metaverse in the last two decades has changed human behavior, including the rise of online learning in the education sector, the disappearance of various types of manual work and replaced with new digital-based jobs, massive digital-based financial transaction activities. The toughest challenge in this era is the decline in human critical thinking power, the collapse of moral nobility and the shift in social ethics in community life. The metaverse era is an inevitable condition, and requires careful preparation by society to deal with it. In addition to the demands of the stockholder's ability to provide the necessary equipment, human resources must also be equipped with qualified abilities to control various sophisticated equipment in this era. On the other hand, the strengthening of noble values both from Religion, Culture, and Nationality should be strengthened so that humans are not trapped in a culture of sensation known as sensing culture.

Abstract

This article examines the role of smart contracts as an innovative instrument supporting Islamic economic diplomacy in the blockchain era. Blockchain technology, characterized by transparency, efficiency, and security, offers solutions aligned with the principles of Islamic economics, such as justice, honesty, and openness. The research aims to explore the potential use of smart contracts in accelerating international economic transactions compliant with Sharia law, while also identifying the challenges and opportunities for their global implementation. The study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach, combining secondary data from reports, case studies, and empirical analyses. One of the key findings is that smart contracts can streamline international trade and cross-border investment processes by reducing administrative costs, speeding up transaction settlements, and eliminating third-party risks. Case studies on the application of smart contracts in managing international zakat and halal investments demonstrate that this technology enhances trust and accountability among parties. The article also identifies several obstacles, including limited technological literacy, regulatory challenges, and cultural resistance in Muslim-majority countries. However, through collaboration between governments, private sectors, and international organizations, blockchain technology can be integrated into the framework of Islamic economic diplomacy to strengthen international relations. In conclusion, smart contracts represent a potential instrument to transform Islamic economic diplomacy, making it more relevant and competitive in the digital era. The study recommends developing Sharia-compliant technology regulations and promoting digital education as strategic steps toward integrating blockchain into the global Islamic economy.

Abstract

This research explores the economic potential of mosques in Makassar, focusing on their role in community empowerment through business development, social welfare, education, and digital integration. Mosques, as central hubs within their communities, provide opportunities for entrepreneurial ventures such as halal food businesses, souvenir shops, and religious education centers. These businesses cater to the needs of worshippers and the surrounding community, offering products and services that align with Islamic values. In addition to economic activities, mosques play a pivotal role in social welfare by organizing charitable events, health services, and educational programs that support the well-being of the community. The study also highlights the increasing potential of digital technologies, such as the metaverse, to enhance mosque-based economic empowerment. By utilizing virtual platforms, mosques can expand their outreach, offering online training, promoting sharia-compliant e-commerce, and facilitating discussions on economic management, reaching a broader audience beyond physical limitations. The research further emphasizes the importance of effective management, training, and mentorship for mosque administrators to ensure the sustainability of these programs. Ultimately, this research demonstrates how mosques in Makassar can leverage their economic, social, and educational functions to empower their communities, creating sustainable development opportunities that align with Islamic values. The findings provide practical insights for utilizing digital platforms in mosque activities, with the potential to replicate these models in other regions, contributing to broader social and economic progress.
