Abstract

Proteolytic bacteria are bacteria that are able to hydrolize proteins into smaller peptides or completely into amino acid units. This study was carried out to determine the proteolytic activity of Bacillus sp. B1 isolated from rhizosphere of mustard plants. The proteolytic activity of the enzymes were determined based on the amount of tyrosin liberated in Unit/mL, while the specific activity of the enzymes were indicated by activity per unit weight of proteins. The protein concentration of enzyme  extracts were determined by the Lowry method. The activity of enzyme was determined at various production times (6, 12, 18, 24, 30, and 36 hours). The results showed that the Bacillus sp. B1 isolate was able to produce protease. Bacillus sp. B1 isolate obtained its maximum activity in 30 hours of production time. The specific activity of protease Bacillus sp. Abstract

Whitening cream is a mixture of chemicals or other materials which is able to whiten the skin. The presence of heavy metals such as Pb, Cd and Hg in the whitening cream products are very dangerous, because if the heavy metal ions adsorbed into organs, it will cause health problems. This study aims to determine the metal content of lead, cadmium and mercury in the whitening cream products. The sample of whitening cream which is used in this study consists of day cream and night cream. 6 samples ( 3 of daycream and 3 of night cream) were purchased randomly in Pekanbaru market to be analyzed by using atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The result of the study showed the highest contentof Pb was seen in the sample of day whitening cream with values of C134,91 μg/g and the highest content of Cd was seen in the sample of night whitening cream with values of C21,55 μg/g while the highest content of Hg was shown by the sample of night whitening cream with values of B24,18 μg/g. All the results are above the safe limit determined by the National Agency of Drug and Food Control of the Republic of Indonesia BPOM RI No. HK 03.1.23.08.11.07331 tahun 2011.

Abstract

Jamu is one of traditional medicine that is still consumed today. The content of heavy metals (Pb, Cd and Hg) in jamu product is very dangerous to humans, because it can cause health problems such as liver and kidney excreation. The aim of this research was to analyzed the content of lead, cadmium and mercury in the jamu pegal linu product. Six sample products of jamu pegal linu were purchased randomly in traditional Pekanbaru markets to be analyzed by atomic absorption spectrophotometer and cold-vapor atomic absorption spectrophotometer with wet digestion process. The result showed that the content of Pb and Hg in the samples were exceeded the limit of BPOM RI, whereas Cd metal was found below the limit that allowed by BPOM RI.

Abstract

The examination of lead metal contamination levels in tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum L.) planted on the road side in the district Aur Birugo Tigo Baleh Bukittinggi West Sumatra has been carried out. The samples have taken at four yards randomly with a distance of 3,5 m, 20 m and 500 m from the side of the highway. The fruits and leaves of tomato and soils were destructed by using nitric acid, hydrogen peroxide and perchlorate acid and was measured using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometric (AAS) at the wavelength of 283,3 nm. The results of analysis showed that the rate of Pb pollutants of the tomato fruit were A1 = 1,0725 mg/Kg (planted with a distance of 3,5 m from the road side); A2 = 0,9977 mg/Kg (planted with a distance of 20 m from the road side); A3 = 0,5848 mg/Kg (planted with a distance of 500 m from the road side). The concentration of Pb pollutants of the tomato leaves were B1 = 0,1983 mg/Kg (planted with a distance of 3,5 m from the road side); B2 = 0,1361 mg/Kg (planted with a distance of 20 m from the road side); B3 = 0,1370 mg/Kg (planted with a distance of 500 m from the road side); and the concentration of Pb pollutants of the soils were C1 = 2,6719 mg/Kg (with a distance of 3,5 m from the road side); C2 = 3,1039 mg/Kg (with a distance of 20 m from the road side); C3 = 2,1904 mg/Kg (with a distance of 500 m from the road side). Refferring to the Director General of Drug and Food Control (BPOM) No. 03725/B/SK/VII/89, the maximum contamination levels of metal in Food. for tomato is 1,0 mg/Kg. The maximum contamination levels of metal on the leave : 0,5 mg/Kg, refferring to the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 7387 – 2009, the maximum contamination levels of metal on the soil is 10 mg/Kg.

Abstract

A research has been done on analysis of concentration of heavy metals (Cu, Fe, Zn) electrical conductivity and density of the Gaung river water. The method that used in this research was an experimental. The samples of Gaung river water in the village of Semambu Kuning was taken three times in each point: the Dusun Terentang, Dusun Sejahtera, and Dusun Mulia. Measurement of the concentration of heavy metals was performed by using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy(AAS), while the electrical conductivity measurements were performed using conductivitymeter and density was measured by using a hydrometer. The results showed that the concentration of iron(Fe) from each points was 1.28x10-6 kg/l, 1,25x10-6 kg/l, and 1,32x10-6 kg/l, respectively. Concentrations of copper(Cu) oneach points was 0.0015x10-6 kg/l, 0.0051x10-6 kg/l, and 0.0053x10-6 kg/l. Concentrations of Zn(zinc) was found to be 0.0310x10-6 kg/l, 0.028x10-6 kg/l, and 0.0337x10-6 kg/l. which the electrical conductivity was 192,33x10-4 mho/m, 197,23x10-4 mho/m, and 199,9x10-4 mho/m. Otherwise the average density of the river water was 1166.7x10-3 kg/m3, 1200x10-3 kg/m3, and 1233.3x10-3 kg/m3, respectively for point 1, 2, and 3.

Abstract

Earthworms have characteristic and a different range of tolerance to environmental conditions such as pH and soil organic content. The purpose of this study was to determine the growth of earthworm Perionyx sp1 (worm milk) and Perionyx sp2 (red worm) in waste of the oil palm frond with chicken manure media. The parameters measured were body weight, number of coccoons produced, temperature and soil pH. The eksperiment were designed using factorial completely randomized with 5 treatment and 3 replications. The data were analysz using (ANOVA) with DMRT at 5% significant. The results showed that earthworm weight and the number of coccoon was significantly different at treatment media (P> 0.05). The traetment with 75% of oil palm fronds waste and 25% chicken manure were the best media to increased body weight and the number of coccoons for both earthworm.

Abstract

A research has been done on physical analysis of clean water treatment at PDAM Tirta Siak Pekanbaru. The methods that used in this research was an experimental in order to analyze water treatment system, water debit which was distributed in the main pipe, and water velocity in the pipe. Raw water used in the water treatment plant uses water from the Siak River using intake. Intake on this water treatment uses two pumps with capacity of 140 liters / sec are used interchangeably to collect water. Raw water treated by coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection. Incoming raw water to be processed and distributed to the reservoir as the water ready to be distributed to consumers. Reservoir water discharge was obtained for 110 liters / sec or 410.4 m3/sec. Obtained debit water out of the water volume ratio of a specific time range that depends on the size of the pressure in the pipe. Based on the results of the average debit coming out in May 2014 at 9:00 to 10:00, 10:00 to 11:00, 11:00 to 12:00, 12:00 to 13:00, 13:00 to 14:00, 14:00 to 15:00 is 475,142 m3/sec, 443,594 m3/sec, 426,883 m3/sec, 431.755 m3/sec, 430.432 m3/sec, and 425.980 m3/sec, respectively. Water flow rate obtained 0.604 m/s, 0.610 m/s, 0.605 m/s, 0.612 m/s, 0.629 m/s, and 0.673 m/s, respectively.

Abstract

This article discusses three chain estimators for population mean using double sampling, which is a review article from Choudhury and Singh [Statistics In Transition-new series 2012: 519-536]. The three estimators are biased estimators, then their mean square errors are determined. Furthermore, the mean square errors are compared to the mean square error of each estimator. This comparison shows that the estimator having thesmallest mean square error is the most efficient estimator.

Abstract

ne"> The utilization of animal bones as adsorbent has been widely studied. From several studies showed that animal bones has good potential as an adsorbent of heavy metals. However, the composition of the mineral constituent in bone of animals is different, and manufacturing process also affect the potential of bone as an adsorbent. In this study, the potential of goat bone activated charcoal as an adsorbent for Cu2+, Pb2+, NO3- and CNions have been studied. Activated charcoal of goat bones was made with the carbonization of goat bone at 700°C for 20 minutes, then crushed and sieved to obtain charcoal powder with a size of 100 – 120 mesh. The activation process performed using Na2CO3 activator with various concentration of 2.5%; 5% and 7.5% that contacted for 24 hours. The resulting of charcoal residue was dried and heated in a furnace at 800°C for 15 minutes, washed with distilled water and then dried. Activated charcoal that generated was characterized, and the best of activated charcoal according to the results of the characterization was used for adsorption of Cu2+, Pb2+, NO3- and CN- ions. From the results of characterization showed the goat bone activated charcoal which activated by Na2CO3 5% has the best result. The result of adsorption of Cu2+, Pb2+, NO3- and CN- ions showed that percentage of adsorption are 99,75%; 99,95%; 94,91% and 74,17% respectively. The highest of adsorption percentage of activated charcoal is Pb2+ ion and the lowest is CN- ion.
