Abstract

This study aims to determine the growth and better production of green bean plants (Vigna radiata L.) grown in oil palm inter row with different age and cow manure application on peatlands. Research has been conducted on peatlands Experimental Station, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau, Rimbo Panjang Village, Tambang District, Kampar, from August to October 2016. The study was conducted experimentally arranged in split plot design (Split Plot Design) by the planting of green beans in oil palm inter row with different ageconsists of: G1: In oil palm inter row with plant age of 2.5 years, G2: oil palm inter row aged 4 years and the subplot was the dose of cow manure consisting of: P1: 5 ton.ha-1, P2: 10 ton.ha-1, P3: 15 ton.ha-1, P4: 20 ton.ha-1, with the size of 180 cm x 150 cm. Parameters those measured were plant height, number of primary branches, flowering age, harvesting age, pithy number of pods per plant, seed weight per plot and weight of 100 seeds. Data were analyzed using ANOVA then tested further using DNMRT at the 5 % level.The cow manure on green bean plants grown oil palm inter row gave effect to the production of green bean plants, but not on growth.Green pea plants grown on oil palm inter row age of 2,5 years with cow manure 15 ton.ha-1 resulted in better production.  Keywords: Green bean, oil palm inter row with different age, cow manure

Abstract

Peatland is one of natural resource that is very important and also in the economy of the country, including the availability of products in the form of forest timber and non-timber. Shrinking of the peatland area would provide the social, economic and health are devastating for the people of Indonesian. Example of the fires in peatlands not only cause economic losses but also has led to hundreds of thousands of residents suffered respiratory health problems that require careful management. RimboPanjang recent years becometalks of various parties, because peatland located in the area affected by fire due to forest clearing for agriculture and plantation. This study is a qualitative research and the method used was survey. The results showed the level of understanding of the importance of peatland forests for the environment in the village ofRimbo Panjang Kampar regency reached 83.15%, the public response quite well know the importance of peatland forests amounted to 68.42%.Keywords: Forest, peatlands, communityunderstanding

Abstract

The research aims to observe the effect of cow manure dose and spacing in their interaction and obtain the best dose of cow manure and suitable spacing to baby corn and mungbean growth and yield on intercropping system. This research has been conducted at the experimental farm, Agricultural Faculty of Riau University on Januari to April 2016.The research was carried out experimentally using a completely randomized design with 2 factors. The first factor was dose of cow manure, consisted of 4 treatments 10 tons/ha, 15 tons/ha, 20 tons/ha and 25 tons/ha. The second factor was spacing, consisted of 2 treatments 75 x 20 cm and 75 x 40 cm. Data obtained were statistically analyzed using analysis of variance and continued with Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at 5% level. The results showed that the interaction of cow manure and spacing no real effect on all treatments. Combination of 20 ton/ha cow manure and spacing at 75 cm x 40 cm were the best treatment to baby corn and mungbean growth and yield.Keywords : Cow manure, Spacing, Baby corn, Mungbean

Abstract

The purpose of this study is: 1) Identify factors causing land convertion in the Subdistrict Sabak Auh District Siak. 2) Know coping strategies land convertion rice plants in the Subdistrict Sabak Auh District Siak. This research held in the Sub District Sabak Auh District Siak. The method in this research is : survey method. Sampling technique is purposive sampling. 30 farmers are doing land convertion from plants rice to oil palm plantations taken as respondents. Analysis of data to answer the goal that is using likert scale. To answer the second goal using SWOT analysis. The result showed: 1) There are four aspects of the cause of land convertion. economi aspect ‘Agree’, environmental aspect ‘Quite Agree’, technical aspects ‘Quite Agree’, social aspects ‘Quite Agree’. Causing farmers to land convertion from rice plants to palm oil plntations caused by economic aspects. 2) there are three strategies to overcome land convertion that is : a) With adequate irrigation system, optimal extention role, made laws about land convertion can compete with palm oil plantations income side, b) rice plants is the highest demand and easy marketing that can meet the needs of the community. c) with strict legislation will lead to the need for rice is met.Keywords :Land Convertion, Tackle Land Convertion, Rice Plants, Oil Palm Plantation

Abstract

This research aims : 1) to know the characteristics of the internal factors and external factors, 2)the level of independence the farmers, 3)analyzes the relationship characteristics of internal factors and external factors to the independence of the farmers. The determination of the location is purposive on the consideration in village many rubber farmers with the patterns of non-governmental organizations. Fetch method respondents by purposive sampling with the conditions in the village there is counseling activities and farmer groups active. Total respondents 60 farmers. Analysis of the data using descriptive method. The purpose of the first and the second analyzed with Likert scale, while the the third analyzed with rank Spearman correlation. Characterized internal factors : age (37- 55 years), formal education (finished elementary and high school), informal education (3 times in the last three years the number of members of the family (4), experience (19-35 years), tenure (17.801 - 35.400 m²),  motivation a low level of kekosmopolitan (0-196 km), revenue (Rp 3.010.000 - 5800.000), and characteristics external factors farmers: support farmer groups, counseling institutions, government policies and the role of community leaders category of "good" but the availability of infrastructure and production financial institutions and the source information the category of "low". The level independence organizations of pattern rubber farmers in decision-making and aquaculture, and harvest "high". Decision-making the infrastructure and production and marketing "low". The relationship characteristics external factors and is not related to the internal factors. Key Words: Internal Factors, external factors, the level of independence, and rubber farmers.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect using LCC Mucuna bracteata at various land slope of palm TBM-III on soil physical properties and plant root growth of palm oil. This research has been conducted in PTPN V Unit Lubuk Dalam, Siak and the analysis of soil physical properties at Soil Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau. This study lasted from January to April 2016. The research was conducted by using split plot design. The level of land slope (K) as the main plot which are: K1 = land slope 0% - 3%, K2 = land slope >3% - 8%, K3 = land slope >8% - 15%. The using LCC Mucuna bracteata (M) as the subplot, which are: M0 = land planted with oil palm without LCC Mucuna bracteata, M1 = land planted with oil palm LCC Mucuna bracteata. Parameters observed are water content airy, soil temperature, bulk density, particle density, total of pore space, permeability, soil organic matter, root dry weight, root volume and root occupy. The results showed: (1) the interaction of land slope and the using LCC Mucuna bracteata does not affect all of the soil physical properties and the root growth of oil palm plantations, except for water content airy in the soil depth 20-30 cm; (2) the land slope only affects the water content airy in the soil depth 0-10 cm; and (3) the using LCC Mucuna bracteata effect on water content airy, bulk density, particle density, total pore space in the soil depth of 0-5 cm, permeability and soil organic matter. Keywords: Mucuna bracteata, land slope, soil physical properties

Abstract

The aim of this research is to know the effect of composting of coffee peel and NPK fertilizer on the growth and production of sweet corn and to know the best dose of the treatment. This research conducted in experimental garden of Faculty of Agriculture Riau University for four months starting from June to September 2017. This research was conducted using a randomized block design (RBD) consisting of two factors. The first factor of fruit coffee compost was the second factor of NPK fertilizer. The data obtained in the field were analyzed statistically. The results of the real variance analyzed using a real 5% True Difference Test (TDT). The observed parameters were plant height, diameter of stem, time of male flower, time of female flower, weight of cob weighted per plant, weight of cob weighted per plot, cob weight without corn husk per plant, cob diameter without weight and number of rows of seeds. The results showed that the increased dose of coffee fruit compost did not affect the growth and production of sweet corn while the increase of NPK fertilizer dosage generally increased the growth and production of sweet corn plant. The interaction of fruit coffee compost and NPK fertilizer has no effect in improving the growth and production of sweet corn plants. Keywords: Sweet corn, coffee fruit compost and NPK

Abstract

Keramba is an alternative support of economy on society, so wood as the basic material need to be preserved. The purpose of this research to identify the species and criteria of wood which can be used on manufacturing keramba, based on public perception in Buluh Cina village. The method  used on this research is purposivesampling. The analysis of the data used descriptive quantitative by interviewed local community in buluh cina village. Resultof the research showed that the species of wood used as basic material is, Cantleya corniculata Howard), Gluta rengas L, Dillenia grandifolia, Shorea Spp, Koompassia malaccensis. The criteria used for basicwood as keramba material is the diameter of tree 40-60 cm, high 15-20 m, length 2-4 m, and the level of wood alignment is 90-100 %. Keyword: the species of wood, criteria, public perception.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the effect of treatment of solid waste the palm oil mill (Sludge) and phosphates and getting the best treatment combination on the growth and productivity of shallot. This research was conducted on experimental farm, the Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University, Campus Bina Widya Km 12,5, sub-district of Simpang Baru, district of Tampan, Pekanbaru, from May until September 2016. The research design was randomized complete block design, factorial 4x2 and 3 replications. The first factor was solid waste the palm oil mill (5, 10, 15, and 20 ton. Ha-1) and the second factor was phosphates fertilizer (50 and 100 kgP2O5. Ha-1). Data results were analyzed statistically operates with anova and Duncan test continued level of 5%. The result of the research showed that the interaction of solid waste the palm oil mill and phosphates fertilizer have no effect to all of observed parameters significantly. The result revealed that the 20 tons. Ha-1 solid waste the palm oil mill with 50 kgP2O5. Ha-1 phosphates were better than other combination of treatments because the treatments showed the highest quantity. Keywords: Solid waste the palm oil mill, phosphates and Shallot.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the effect of the combination of oil palm bunch ash with urea fertilizer on the growth of cocoa seedlings (Theobroma cacao L.) in peat soil and to know the best dose. This research was conducted in experimental garden of Agricultural Faculty of University of Riau on December 2016 until March 2017. This research method used non factorial Complete Random Design (RAL) consisting of 6 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments consisted of 4 g AJKS + 0.5 g Urea, 4 g AJKS + 1 g Urea, 4 g AJKS + 2 g Urea, 8 g AJKS + 0.5 g Urea, 8 g AJKS + 1 g Urea and 8 g AJKS + 2 g Urea. Parameters observed were; plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, leaf area, root volume, ratio root crown and dry weight of cocoa seedlings. The data obtained were analyzed statistically by using vocabulary and then tested further with DNMRT test at 5% level. The combination of AJKS with urea fertilizer in peat soil significantly affected the diameter of stem, root volume. However, the effect was not significant on plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, leaf area, ratio root crown and dry weight of cocoa seedlings. The results of this study indicate that giving AJKS combination with urea fertilizer with dose 8 g AJKS + 2 g urea in peat soil produces the best growth of cocoa seedlings. Keywords : Oil palm bunch ash, Urea fertilizer, Peat soil, Cocoa
