Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine the effect of addition of dahlia tuber inulin on the physical, chemical, and sensory properties of ice cream. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with six treatments and three replications. The treatment in this study was the level of addition of inulin in ice cream. The levels of addition of inulin were E0 (without the addition of inulin dahlia tuber), E1 (addition of 1% inulin dahlia tuber), E2 (addition of 2% inulin dahlia tuber), E3 (addition of 3% inulin dahlia tuber), E4 (addition of 4% inulin dahlia tuber) and E5 (addition of 5% inulin dahlia tuber). The data obtained were analyzed statistically using analysis of variance (ANOVA). If F count is greater than or equal to F table then proceed with the DNMRT test at level 5%. The results of this study showed that the level of addition of dahlia tuber inulin in ice cream production had a significant effect (P<0.05) on overrun, melting time, crude fiber, and fat content.  This treatment also gave significantly different results (P<0.05) on a descriptive assessment of color, flavor, taste, and texture, as well as a hedonic assessment of the overall acceptance of ice cream. The best treatment for ice cream from this study was E4 with overrun 15.40%, melting time 11.04 minutes, fiber content 0.70%, fat content 5.72%, light brown color (score 3.47), mildly flavored milk (score 3.37), taste milk (score 3.63), and soft texture (score 3.63) and the overall assessment of ice cream favored by panelists (score 3.65).Keywords:inulin, dahlia tuber inulin, and ice cream.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know the effect of composted contains cow rumen and get a dose of composted cow rumen content best to the growth and yield of mung bean. This research land conducted in UPT area of research Farm in Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University from January to March 2016. This research used a completely randomized design (CRD), which consists of 6 treatments: K0: Without composted cow rumen contents, K1 : 10 ton/ha, K2: 20 ton/ha, K3: 30 ton/ha, K4: 40 ton/ha, K5: 50 ton/ha. Parameters measured were plant height, number of primary branch, flowering time, harvesting time, pods number per plant, the percentage of pithy pods number per plant, weight of 100 seeds and production per plot. The results of the research giving composting cow rumen content dose 20 ton/ha able to optimize growth and production of mung bean.Keywords: Compost, cow rumen contents, Mung bean, growth and yield

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out the effect of leaf age toward the antioxidant activity and acceptance of avocado leaves herbal tea by panelists. This research used a Completely Randomized Design Experiment with four treatments and four repetitions. The treatment applied toward the avocado leaves herbal tea were P1 : shoots (the first leaves appeared on the top of the branches), P2 : young leaves (the 1st–3rd leaves after the shoot), P3: medium old leaves (the 4th–6th leaves after the shoot), and P4 : old leaves (the 7th–9th leaves after the shoot). Collected data were statistically analized using ANOVA and DNMRT at 5% level. The results showed that the leaves age significantly affected on water content, ash, polyphenol, antioxidant activity and sensory assesment descriptive and hedonic. The choosen treatment from the results of this research was P1 (the first leaves appeared on the top of the branches) that had 5,67% of moisture content, 3,27% of ash content, 7,33% polyphenol content, 54,69 µg/mL of antioxidant activity (IC50). The results of descriptive assesment showed that tea of avocado leaves had yellow brownish color, slightly unpleasent scent, and a little slightly bitter taste. Hedonic assesment showed avocado leaf tea had favored colors, quite fond sense, and the overall assessment of tea was quite favored. Abstract

Ice cream is frozen food made from milk fat, sweeteners, flavorings, and other additives such as nuts, fruits, or candies. The objective of this research was to find the optimal pineapple pulp addition on the physicochemical and sensory properties of ice cream. This study used completely randomized design (CRD) experiment with four treatments and four replications. The treatments used for making ice cream were E0 (without the addition of pineapple slurry), E1 (addition of 3% pineapple), E2 (addition of 6% pineapple), and E3 (addition of 9% pineapple). The data obtained were analyzed statistically using ANOVA and DNMRT at 5% level. The results showed that the addition of pineapple slurry significantly affectedoverrun, melting time of ice cream,fiber and fat contents, and the descriptive sensory assessmentincluding color, flavor, aroma, texture, and hedonic assessment of overall acceptance of ice cream. The selected pineapple fruit ice cream of treatment E1 (3% pineapple fruit addition) has 34.46% overrun, 16.38 minute melting time, 0.48% fiber content, and 4.00% fat content, and overall sensory assessment liked by panelists. Keywords:Pulp pineapple, ice cream.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the interactionof chicken manure and oil palm bunch ashand to get the best dose to the cocoa seedlings growth. This research has been carried out in the experimentalstation Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau from June to September 2016. This research used a completely randomized design (CRD) two factors with three replications. The first factor is the chickenmanure with four levels namely 0, 10, 15 and 20 tons/ha. The second factor was the oil palm bunch ash with three levels namely 0, 2 and 3 tons/ha. Parameters observed were plant height, girth trunk, number of leaves, root volume, the weight of dry biomass andshoot and roots ratio. The results showed that the interaction of chicken manure and oil palm bunch ash significantly a effect on plant height and shoot and roots ratio, the best treatment can be obtained by providing a dose of chicken manure 20 tons/ha and oil palm bunch ash dose of 3 tons/ha. Chicken manure gives the best treatment results with dose of 20 tons/ha significantly effect on plant height, number of leaves, root volume, biomass dry weight and shoot and roots ratio. Provision of oil palm bunch ash to the cocoa seedlings affect only the root volume and the best treatment is on oil palm bunch ash dose of 2 tons/ha.Keywords: Chicken minure, Oil palm bunch ash, Cocoa seedlings

Abstract

This study aims to observe the effect of coconut water GR and LOF of tofu liquid waste, and to get the best concentration on the growth and production of red onion (Allium ascalonicum L.). The experiment was conducted in experimental garden of Agricultural Faculty of Riau University, Pekanbaru. The study lasted for 3 months from July to September 2016. This experiment was conducted experimentally using a Factorial Randomized Complete Random Design (RAL) consisting of 2 factors and 3 replications.Factor I is the concentration of coconut water, consisting of 4 levels ie: A0 = 0%, A1 = 25%, A2 = 50%, A3 = 75%. Factor II is the concentration of tofu liquid waste, consisting of 4 levels ie: L0 = 0%, L1 = 25%, L2 = 50%, L3 = 75%. Of the two factors above, there is a combination of 16 treatments, each repeated 3 times so that there are 48 experimental units. Parameters observed were Number of leaves per clump (tuber), Number of tubers per clump (fruit), largest tuber of tuber per clump (cm), weight of fresh bulb per clump (g), weight of fresh tubers / m2 (g) and weight of dried bulbs / M2 (g). The data obtained were analyzed statistically using vocabulary, then continued by Duncan multiple-range test at 5% level.Giving of GR coconut water and LOF of wastewater know to increase the growth and production of shallot crop. Giving GR of coconut water concentration of 50% and 75% with LOF of wastewater know concentration of 75% is the best concentration in obtaining fresh bulb weight per m2 and weight of dry bulb per m2. Keywords: Red onion, coconut water, Liquid waste tofu

Abstract

This study aims to get the oil palm seedlings variety that were more tolerant to waterlogging stress duration. Research does in the experiments were undertaken at the Agriculture Faculty Station of Riau University from April to June 2016. Experiment done in the completely randomized design 3 x 3. The first factor was the Tenera varieties palm oil seedlings: AA-DP TOPAZ 1 (v1), Sungai Pancur I (v2) and DxP Simalungun (v3). The second factor was waterlogging stress duration: 30 days (g0), 50 days (g1) and 70 days (g3). Variables observed consisted of: seedling height, leaf midrib, stem diameter, canopy root ratio, seedling quality index and seedling dry weight. The results showed that, interaction between the varieties palm oil seedling with waterlogging stress duration was not significant. Effect of waterlogging stress duration take on all observed variables, but the varieties affects to height, number of leaves and dry weight of seedling. The varieties of oil palm seedlings more tolerant to 70 days waterlogging stress duration, compared 30 days or 50 days. The growth of Sungai Pancur I and DxP Simalungun palm oil seedling were better than AA-DP TOPAZ 1. Keywords: Tenera varieties palm oil seedling, waterlogging stress duration.

Abstract

The Effect of Sludge and Zeolites toward the Growth of PB 260 Clone Rubber Seedlings Mini Stumps. This Research Has Been Conducted In Experimental Garden In The Faculty Of Agriculture, University Of Riau, Bina Widya Campus on Km 12.5 Simpang Baru, Tampan, Pekanbaru City. This Study Was Conducted For 4 Months, Starting From May To August 2017. This research aims to determine the effect of the interaction of the Sludge and Zeolites as well as the main influence and the best treatment for the growth of PB 260 Clone Rubber Seedlings Mini Stumps. This experiment was conducted experimentally using Randomized Complete Random Design (CRD) which consists of 2 factors. The first factor is dosage of Sludge (K) which consists of 3 levels, namely: 0, 100 and 150 G / Plant. The Second Factor Is the Dosage of Zeolites (P) Consisting of 3 Levels, Namely: 0, 25 and 50 / Plant. The data obtained on the observations were analyzed statistically by the analysis of variance. The result of variance analysis is further analyzed by using Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at 5%. The results showed that the effect of Sludge gave good result on rubber seeds with dose 150 g / plant. It has effect on high shoots, number of leaves, shoots diameter and widest leaf area. The effect of Zeolites gave good result on rubber seedlings with dose 50 g / plant. It has effect on high shoots, number of leaves, shoots diameter and widest leaf area. Interaction of giving 150 g Sludge / plant and 50 g Zeolites / plant influence on bud diameter and widest leaf area. Keywords: Rubber Seedlings, Sludge, Zeolites, PB 260 Clone Mini Stumps.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to study the effect of NAA, BAP and their combinations in MS media on the formation of callus and bud morphogenesis of Sansevieria macrophylla explants. The research has been conducted at the Laboratory of Plant Biotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau, from August 2015 to February 2016. The experiment was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design, consisting of 8 treatments and 3 replications. Each treatment consisted of 4 explants of Sansevieria macrophylla. The treatments were application of NAA, BAP and their combinations in MS media : NAA 1 mg/L, NAA 2 mg/L, BAP 1 mg/L, BAP 2 mg/L, NAA 1 mg/L + BAP 1 mg/L, NAA 1 mg/L + BAP 2 mg/L, NAA 2 mg/L + BAP 1 mg/L, NAA 2 mg/L + BAP 2 mg/L . The parameters observed were : the time of callus appearance, colour of callus, texture of callus, time of shoots appearance and the survival bud rate. The data were analyzed with  analysis of variance and the means of treatment were compared by using Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test at 5 % level. The data of callus colour and texture were analyzed descriptively and presented in a tabular form. The result showed that the addition of BAP 2 mg/L in MS media gave the earliest time of callus appearance and BAP 1mg/L gave the highest percentage of survival bud rate. The combination of NAA 1 mg/L + BAP 1 mg/L  gave the earliest time of shoots appearance of Sansevieria macrophylla explants in MS media.Keywords:Sansevieria macrophyllaExplants, NAA, BAP and in vitro

Abstract

This study aims to determine the response of water spinach plants to the implementation of cow manure and to determine the best dosage of cow manure for water spinach (Ipomoea reptans Poir) which provides the highest growth and yield. This research was conducted at the University of Riau's Faculty of Agriculture Experimental Station, starting from February 2018 to April 2018. This study used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisting of 5 doses of cow manure treatment and 4 replications. The treatments was tested K0 (0 t.ha-1), K1 (5 t.ha-1),  K2 (10 t.ha-1),K3 (15 t.ha-1), K4 (20 t.ha-1). The parameters observed were plant height, leaf number, leaf area, fresh weight per plant, root to shoot ratio and dry weight per plant. Data were analyzed using variance and continued with HSD test level of 5%. The results showed that the administration of cow manure with a dose of 20 t.ha-1 gave the highest results in almost all observational parameters, namely plant height (31.33 cm), number of leaves (13.15 cm), leaf area (18.65 cm2), root canopy ratio (9.21), dry weight per plant (5.15 g) except fresh weight per plant (21.75 g). Keywords:Ipomoea reptans Poir, cow manure
