Abstract

AbstractPuntioplites bulu is  a type of freshwater fish that commonly inhabit the Batang Mahat River, Riau. A study aims to understand the reproductive biology of P. bulu has been conducted. The fish was sampled 6 times, second/month, from January to March 2019. Parameters measured were sex ratio, gonad maturity level, gonad somatic index (GSI), fecundity and egg diameter. Results shown that there were 31 males and 34 females (sex ratio 1:1). The male has  slimmer body and brighter color than those of the female. The gonadal matury levels in females was 3 in Batang Mahat River.  The average GSI of fish ranged from 0.26-3.78%. The average fecundity  of the  female   was 179.12-202.57. Egg diameter  ranged from 0.66-1.20 mm, where  the small egg (0.66-0.92 mm) was 83-84%, the medium egg (0.93-1.19) was 14-15% and the large egg >1,20 was 1.67%. Based on the size of egg diameter can be concluded this fish is total spawner. Keywords: Sex ratio, gonad matury level, gonad somatic index, fecundity                   Total spawner

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe aim of this study to evaluate the effect of honey supplementation in physiological NaCl on sperm motility, viability, fertility and hatching rate of riverine bagrid catfish (Hemibagrus nemurus) during short storage. This experiment used Completely Random Design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 3 replications, namely  P0 : 0% honey in 100%  physiological NaCl, P1 : 0,2% honey in 99,8% physiological NaCl, P2 : 0,4% honey in 99,6% physiological NaCl, P3 : 0,6% honey in 99,4% physiological NaCl, P0 : 0,8% honey in 99,2%  physiological NaCl. The result showed that the addition honey in physiological NaCl on sperm storage significantly affect sperm quality of catfish during 96 hours of storage. The result showed that the best quality sperm of catfish treated by P2 was higher (P<0,05) than other treatment. In addition, the optimal storage time was 36 hours which was very good motility and highest viability (67,5%). After 12 hours storage, fertilization rate 76,5% with hatching rate 78% but after 96 hours storage, fertility decrease until 19,39% with hatching rate 58,97%. Keywords : Hemibagrus nemurus, honey, spermatozoa
