Abstract

Developments in digital transformation and information technology have led to the transformation of society into an information society. The government needs to leverage government social media, which utilizes information and communication technologies (ICT), to disseminate effective, affordable, and up-to-date public information to the public. As a result, the purpose of this research is to explore the use of government social media as an information source. A survey of 263 respondents was collected through questionnaires. The research analysis employed in this study was descriptive statistics. The findings illustrate that Instagram is the most frequently used social media platform by citizens to search for public information. It was found that in the last four years, the number of new followers on the government's Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube accounts has increased, with most of the new followers coming in the last 1-2 years. Most respondents who follow the government's Instagram and Twitter mentioned general information and education/scholarship information as their reasons for following. The government's Facebook followers mostly chose general and health/pandemic information. Meanwhile, government YouTube followers do so for education/scholarship information and health/pandemic information.

Abstract

The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has implemented the Digital Talent Scholarship (DTS), which aims to improve the competence of Information and Communication Technology. This study explores the factors that influence the acceptance and use of the website and its impact on user satisfaction, specifically for the Vocational School Graduate Academy (VSGA) participants. This generation is considered to have good digital literacy, but field evidence shows that there are still challenges faced by DTS VSGA participants in accepting and using the digitalent.kominfo.go.id website. This study adopts the UTAUT 2 model to examine the factors that influence the acceptance and use of the website and measure its impact on user satisfaction with the digitalent.kominfo.go.id website. A quantitative approach was used, using a survey method with 356 respondents. Data analysis used Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the Partial Least Square (PLS) model. The study results indicate that the UTAUT 2 model only partially applies to accepting and using the digitalent.kominfo.go.id website. Based on the seven constructs in the UTAUT 2 model, only three variables—performance expectancy, social influence, and habit—influence behavioral intention. Usage behavior is directly influenced by behavioral intention and facilitating conditions, and usage behavior influences user satisfaction.

Abstract

YouTube is currently one of the most widely used multimedia platforms, and students in universities use it. This study aims to understand the behavior and motivation of Padang City students when accessing or watching YouTube videos. This research is quantitative and based on survey methods using questionnaires. The data was processed using descriptive statistical methods. The location of the research was carried out at a state university in Padang City. Their behavior was observed using frequency variables and the duration of time they spent watching YouTube. The data were analyzed based on gender and the character of the universities where they studied. The results of this study show that most college students like entertainment topics when watching YouTube. Of the 439 respondents, most were passive users (92.5%), with the majority of their YouTube watch frequencies being "several times a day," and the duration of each watch was between 10 and 30 minutes. The obstacles to accessing YouTube are still quotas and internet connection. In addition, it was also found that the frequency of watching students from state Islamic religious universities was lower than others. Meanwhile, diploma students are more likely to watch videos that are short in duration.

Abstract

The high level of air pollution in Jakarta had become a hot topic on various social media platforms in the second half of 2023. This research aims to find out whether and to what extent the level of exposure to social media influences the level of public health risk perception, especially regarding the problem of air pollution in Jakarta. The research was conducted only to Instagram, which is one of the most popular social media platforms in Indonesia. By using the concept of The Social Amplification of Risk Framework (SARF) to understand the role of media in shaping people's risk perceptions, this research uses quantitative approach with survey method on 109 respondents. The results of hypothesis testing show that exposure to information on Instagram related to Jakarta air pollution influences perception of health risk even though it is not the dominant factor. The results of this research show the need to utilize various communication channels to achieve more optimal results in risk communication. The use of omnichannel needs to be supported by an integrated communication strategy to provide message consistency and continuity so that people are able to understand risks correctly and adopt the right behavior to deal with them.

Abstract

This research aims to describe who the dominant/central actors are and what the relationships between actors in the KSBSI organizational network are regarding the rejection of Law Number 6 of 2023 concerning Job Creation. This research method uses a communication network analysis method with a descriptive type, data analysis techniques using Eriyanto's theory, (2014) consisting of structured data analysis, unstructured analysis and observation. The results of this research show that the actor with the name Harris Manalu became the dominant/central actor when rejecting Law no. 6 of 2023 concerning job creation, by occupying the four best centrality positions including: level centrality (8), closeness centrality ( 8), centrality of betweenness (8.167) and eigenvector (0.459). Meanwhile, relations between actors in the KSBSI organizational network mostly use relationship types: interests (4), hierarchical or authority/power (3), emotional (2) and communication (1). In this study, researchers did not find any type of transaction or kinship relationship, based on information that the actors who were part of the KSBSI legal team in rejecting the law did not have any transactions and the actors came from different backgrounds.

Abstract

The spread of hoaxes through digital media, especially political ones, has become increasingly widespread, with 2,882 hoax content cases handled by Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital in early 2024. Of these, 203 were election-related hoaxes. Hoaxes during elections are often used as propaganda to influence public opinion and election results. This research, using quantitative content analysis, aimed to examine political communication related to hoaxes in the 2024 Indonesian Presidential Election. The study found that misleading and manipulative hoaxes were used to attack political opponents, mostly through videos on YouTube and TikTok. Hoaxes involving Artificial Intelligence are also on the rise. Political hoaxes are often planned and executed by parties supporting or opposing specific candidates. The Prabowo-Gibran pair and President Jokowi were the main targets. Those spreading hoaxes are typically opponents of certain candidates and the current government. These hoaxes are designed to create hostility and harm political opponents, with strong political motives. Trusted fact-checking teams play a crucial role in helping the public avoid being misled by providing digital literacy on the truth of information.

Abstract

Community engagement is widely recognised as essential in addressing the significant challenges posed by climate change, with scholarly research indicating that media coverage and framing of climate issues are crucial for raising awareness and encouraging community involvement. However, climate change reporting often focuses primarily on negative impacts, which can diminish public support for climate action and contribute to climate anxiety. Framing techniques that emphasise potential solutions can be employed to improve climate change communication. This approach aligns with constructive journalism, emphasising solutions-based reporting, providing credible coverage of social issues like climate change, and fostering democratic dialogue. This study investigates how constructive climate change news can inspire Gen-Z in Indonesia to participate in climate action, as they are projected to be among the most affected by climate change. Using focus group discussions (n=10) with Gen-Z participants, this study employed constructive climate change news as a stimulus before the discussions. Data were analysed through thematic analysis, which revealed two main themes. First, Gen-Z participants felt motivated to engage in climate action after reading constructive climate change news. Second, while Gen-Z expresses a strong willingness to contribute to climate initiatives, two external factors emerged as key facilitators of their involvement in climate action.
