Abstract

The Lean Manufacturing (LM) system has been increasingly used in many industrial applications, worldwide, in the last 3 decades. The LM system is based on sound philosophy and includes several tools and principles, which permit its usage in eliminating wastes and decreasing the production costs. Though the conventional LM is helpful, the new paradigm, i.e., Industry 4.0, has started challenging the system. The traditional LM system cannot analyse the complex issues present in the existing competitive market on its own. This is because the Industry 4.0 is based on data which is more diverse, complex and fast. In this review, the researchers have attempted to identify the solution for the current scenario. Literature survey showed that simulation was a relevant tool that could be used for addressing the complexity-based issues related to the new concept. Though the combination of the simulation and LM system helped in understanding the problems, there still existed a gap in the LM system with regards to the merging of the 2 technologies of Industry 4.0.

Abstract

This study has reported the effects of different formulation ratio between recycled high density polyethylene (r-HDPE) and recycled polypropylene (r-PP) into the resulted mechanical, thermal and morphological properties of r-HDPE/r-PP polymeric blends. About five (5) different formulation ratio of r-HDPE/r-PP have been prepared and tested. The best combination ratio between r-HDPE and r-PP was determined in this work. It was found that the 70/30 wt.% of r-HDPE/r-PP blend possessed an outstanding mechanical and physical strength. About 59.80% and 2.30% of positive improvement in comparison to 0/100 wt.% of r-HDPE/r-PP was achieved for both of tensile strength and hardness, respectively. Interestingly, for 70/30 wt.% of r-HDPE/r-PP blend had also experienced major increased in their elongation at break up to 473%. The fracture morphological behavior of the tested samples that were observed via SEM observation, had established the interaction between the structure and properties of produced r-HDPE/r-PP blends, especially on the miscibility state between the r-HDPE and r-PP phases. Thermal evaluation by using the DSC had confirmed the partial miscibility state due to dominant peak shifting at 120 - 140°C and obvious melting peak reduction pattern. Overall, from this study, it was found that the blending between r-HDPE and r-PP into r-HDPE/r-PP blends are feasible to improve the properties of primary phase.

Abstract

Turnaround (TA) is a large-scale maintenance activity (extraordinary maintenance activities), which is carried out periodically (repeated large-scale maintenance), where the work referred to can only be carried out when the unit is stopped operating. The main scope of work is inspection (inspection), repair, cleaning equipment. The success or failure of turnaround activities is very influential from careful preparation, some of the failures of turnaround activities result from unplanned preparations. One factor is the readiness of the material. This paper discusses the direct involvement of the material procurement process in determining better TA preparation time. The historical data from the purchasing is analyses and then the result is combined with the new proposed procedure of the TA maintenance. The new procedure has three months less than the current procedure.

Abstract

Milkfish is common aquaculture product consumed by Indonesian people. However, the ponds of milkfish in Indonesia manage by Small Medium Enterprises scale of farmers which have problems in sustaining the business. This study proposes supply chain analysis in the upstream level to develop strategic to improve the profit of milkfish farmers. Milkfish supply chain is a network of many actors that work together to create and deliver milkfish and its culinary products to the end-user. This paper defines the partnership strategies between the farmers and suppliers as well as the support from government as facilitator and regulator. Moreover, system dynamic approach analyses the scenarios of partnership to outline the benefit obtain by the milkfish supply chain. Finally, the simulation results recommend the partnership to fertilizer supplier will give significant increase in profit of the milkfish farmers.

Abstract

The sugarcane industry is one of the industries that generated negatives impact on the environment. Therefore, it can be concluded that the sugarcane industry is not environmentally sustainable. The results of this research show that the use of electricity from bagasse cogeneration becomes the main contributor to all of damage categories. Meanwhile, the highest contribution to damage categories is human health with a total score of 59%. The results of this research are expected to reduce the environmental impact produced by PT. X so that PT. X will be more environmentally sustainable.

Abstract

Understanding quality in manufacturing starts with defect identification and improvement finding. Reliability that influenced by equipment design or working methods or environment has led to concept of improvement with six sigma method and this has been absorbed in Indonesia industries as well. This article discusses about six sigma implementation in Indonesia from various business and industries. The method is to review research articles that are published within 2016-2020 with keyword DMAIC and six sigma. The results from 52 selected articles is obtained average 3.68 sigma value of Indonesia industries within year 2016-2020 with the least value 1.10 from crude palm oil refinery and the highest is 5.10 from bagging process of sugar refinery. However, six sigma application is not always satisfying  concerning its suitability function, requirement of industries, culture, local regulation, and internal business concern, especially in terms of efficiency and cost. Future research is suggested utilizing industry 4.0 concept to enhance six sigma implementations.

Abstract

Strategy in the snail chips business is the topic of this research. The purpose of this study is to determine the position of the company based on the SWOT results and the sequence of alternative strategies found on QSPM. The stages of this research were to make observations at PT.X to determine the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the snail product. The results obtained by the company lie in quadrant II with a suitable strategy to increase resistance to reduce the danger that comes, while the order of the choice of method is first to strengthen cooperation with new collectors, second to improve quality better than competitors, third to plan delivery schedules if the volume of demand increases. Suggestions that can be used by related companies are implementing alternative strategies on an ongoing basis and periodically evaluating them.

Abstract

The world is entering industry 4.0. The digital enlarges to machine maintenance known as troubleshooting. Troubleshooting is a series of actions needed to deal with machine damage treatment. Problems that often occur in troubleshooting are that technicians are not in the location, the information is still in the form of printed books, the risk of books being lost, books slipping, and the location of books far from the location of machine failure. This research was to solve this problem by developing an application called Production Machine Troubleshooting Information System (SITMEP) in relational database environment. This system was developed by integrating several methods such as machine damage knowledge obtained from tacit sourced from mechanical technicians, experts in their fields and explicit knowledge sourced from machine manual books. GT is to combine knowledge with machine hierarchies and it supports systems for database and SQL. The tool used was MS Access with VBA.

Abstract

The plastic injection molding process is one of the widely used of the manufacturing process to manufacture the plastic product with high productivity.  Moreover, the food packaging manufacturing industry undergoes the trials and errors to obtain the optimal setting of the process parameters in order to minimize the quality issues and these trials and errors are time consuming and costly.  The aim of this study is to improve the quality of the butter tub by minimizing the volumetric shrinkage. This study is to deal with the application of Moldflow integrating with the statistical technique to minimize the volumetric shrinkage the butter tub which depends on the process parameters of the plastic injection molding.  For this purpose, the rectangular shape of butter tub is designed by utilizing the SolidWorks.  Molflow is used to simulate the plastic filling of the single cavity mold of butter tub based on the Taguchi’s  orthogonal array table.  In addition, the analysis of variance (ANOVA) is applied to investigate significant impact of the process parameters on the quality of the butter tub. Minitab is used to optimize the response of the volumetric shrinkage by selecting the most appropriate process parameters that maximizing the desirability value.  Furthermore, the butter tub has a uniform thickness which was 1.2 mm and its factor of safety was 3.383 and the volumetric shrinkage response have optimized by 0.956 %. The melt temperature and mold temperature are found to be the most significant process parameters for the plastic injection molding process of butter tub and the volumetric shrinkage value obtained from the simulation is verified by the calculated volumetric shrinkage value.
