Abstract

This study aimed at : a) investigating the significant effect in writing competency the between students who were treated by using scientific approach combined with CIRC technique and those who were treated by using scientific approach combined with conventional strategy viewed from text types, b) students who were treated by using scientific approach combined with CIRC technique and those who were treated by using scientific approach combined with conventional strategy across descriptive paragraph, c) students who were treated by using scientific approach combined with CIRC technique and those who were treated by using scientific approach combined with conventional strategy across narrative paragraph. This study was an experimental study recruiting 353 students as the sample of the research. Post-test only control group design was applied as the research design. Post test was administered to discover the impact of the treatment. The data obtained from the post test were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistic analysis. Through the descriptive analysis, it was found that the mean score of the group were who were taught by using scientific approach combined with CIRC technique was higher than those who were taught by using scientific approach combined with conventional strategy viewed from text types. It means that the students who were treated by using scientific approach combined with CIRC technique is better than those who were treated by using scientific approach combined with conventional strategy viewed from text types, students who were treated by using scientific approach combined with CIRC technique is better than those who were treated by using scientific approach combined with conventional strategy across descriptive , students who were treated by using scientific approach combined with CIRC technique is not better than those who were treated by using scientific approach combined with conventional strategy narrative paragraph. These findings provide empirical evidence of the importance to determine teaching strategies taught in reading classes. Kata Kunci : Writing Competency, Scientific Approach, CIRC Technique, Text Types Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari pengaruh signifikan diantara a) siswa pemahaman membaca siswa yang diajar dengan pengajaran pendekatan ilmiah kombinasi dengan teknik CIRC dan siswa yang diajar dengan pengajaran pendekatan ilmiah kombinasi dengan strategi konvensional dilihat dari jenis teks; b) siswa yang diajar dengan pengajaran pendekatan ilmiah kombinasi dengan teknik CIRC dan siswa yang diajar dengan pengajaran pendekatan ilmiah kombinasi dengan strategi konvensional di teks descriptive c) siswa yang diajar dengan pengajaran pendekatan ilmiah kombinasi dengan teknik CIRC dan siswa yang diajar dengan pengajaran pendekatan ilmiah kombinasi dengan strategi konvensional di teks narrative. Sampel penelitian berjumblah 353 siswa kelas 8 SMP Harapan Nusantara pada tahun ajaran 2015/2016. Post-Test Only Control group diaplikasikan sebagai desain penelitian. Setelah sesi perlakuan, post test diberikan untuk mengetahui pengaruh data yang diperoleh melalui post-test dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferential. Secara deskriptif diketahui bahwa, siswa yang mengikuti pengajaran pendekatan ilmiah kombinasi dengan teknik CIRC lebih tinggi skornya daripada siswa yang diajar dengan pengajaran pendekatan ilmiah kombinasi dengan strategi konvensional dilihat dari pemahaman membaca pada jenis teks; kedua siswa yang mengikuti pengajaran pendekatan ilmiah kombinasi dengan teknik CIRC lebih baik daripada siswa yang diajar dengan pengajaran pendekatan ilmiah kombinasi dengan strategi konvensional di teks deskripsi; ketiga siswa yang mengikuti pengajaran pendekatan ilmiah kombinasi dengan teknik CIRC tidak lebih baik daripada siswa yang diajar dengan pengajaran pendekatan ilmiah kombinasi dengan strategi konvensional di teks narrative. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kepribadian siswa, cara belajar dan strategi mengajar yang digunakan untuk membantu siswa dalam belajar. Penelitian ini dibuat dalam bentuk deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek penelitian adalah 20 orang siswa kelas 5 dan 1 orang guru di Bali Kiddy School dan objek dari penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui kepribadian, cara belajar dan strategi mengajar. Sumber data yang digunakan adalah tulisan anak tentang keluarganya. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan observasi, kuesioner, dan interview. Kusioner berisi 32 pernyataan yang telah divalidasi oleh MBTI dan penguji. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada beberapa kepribadian yang muncul yaitu sensitive dan individual (40%), bersahabat (35%), menerima dan mencari ide baru (25%). Ada lima cara belajar yang muncul yaitu, 40% ISTJ, 5% ENFP, 30% ISFP, 15% ESFP dan 10% ESTP. Sedangkan untuk strategi mengajar menunjukkan extraversion belajar dengan baik dengan cara debat dan sensing dan intuisi menunjukkan hasil yang baik di setiap strategi belajar yang digunakan.Kata Kunci : kepribadian, cara belajar, strategi pembelajaran, grafologi. This study aimed at analyzing students? personality, learning styles and teaching strategies in dealing with learning styles in Bali Kiddy School. This study was designed in form of descriptive qualitative study. The subjects of the study were 20 students of grade 5 and 1 teacher in Bali Kiddy School and the object of this study were personality, learning styles and teaching strategies. The primary source of data in this study was 20 students? handwriting about their family. The data were collected through observation, questionnaire and interview. There were 32 items in the questionnaire and it was validated by MBTI and judges. The result of the study showed that there were several personalities: sensitive feeling and individual learner (40%), friendly (35%), perceiving and look for new ideas (25%). For learning styles, there were five learning styles revealed in this research, they were, 40% ISTJ, 5% ENFP, 30% ISFP, 15% ESFP and 10% ESTP. Meanwhile, for teaching strategies, the result showed that extraversion worked better in debate and intuition and sensing showed their best in every teaching strategy. keyword : Personality, learning styles, teaching strategies, graphology

Abstract

Penelitian dengan rancangan deskriptif kualitatif bertujuan (1) mendeskripsikan representasi perempuan berdasarkan posisi subjek-objek dalam Novel Cinta Berkalang Noda, Dan Cinta pun Merekah Lagi dan Mekar Menjelang Malam karya Mira W menurut AWK Sara Mills, (2) mendeskripsikan posisi penulis-pembaca dalam Novel Cinta Berkalang Noda, Dan Cinta pun Merekah Lagi dan Mekar Menjelang Malam karya Mira W menurut AWK Sara Mills. Subjek penelitian novel Cinta Berkalang Noda, Dan Cinta Pun Merekah Lagi, dan Mekar Menjelang Malam. Objeknya representasi perempuan. Metode pengumpulan data menggunakan metode dokumentasi dan instrumen utama check list berupa kartu data. Data dianalisis menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif melalui reduksi data, penyajian data dan simpulan. Hasil penelitian representasi perempuan berdasarkan posisi subjek-objek yaitu: (1) marginalisasi direpresentasikan dalam bentuk pemiskinan perempuan dalam kehidupan rumah tangga dan perbedaan posisi anak perempuan dan laki-laki dalam melanjutkan usaha keluarga (2) kekerasan terhadap perempuan direpresentasikan dalam bentuk kekerasan fisik dan psikis (3) penjinakan terhadap perempuan direpresentasikan tersosialisasinya citra, posisi, kodrat dan penerimaan nasib perempuan yang dilakukan laki-laki. Posisi subjek yang berperan sebagai pencerita dominan diklaim kaum laki-laki, sedangkan posisi objek diklaim milik perempuan. Posisi penulis pembaca diposisikan melihat permasalahan dari sudut pandang subjek melalui penggunaan kata ganti orang ketiga ?dia? dan kata ganti orang ketiga jamak ?mereka?. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, dapat disimpulkan (1) representasi perempuan berdasarkan posisi subjek-objek terdapat 22 data yang menunjukan marginalisasi, kekerasan dan penjinakan dan (2) posisi penulis-pembaca menempatkan penulis dan pembaca pada salah satu posisi dan mempengaruhi teks ditampilkan melalui kata ganti orang ketiga ?dia? dan kata ganti orang ketiga jamak ?mereka?.Kata Kunci : Representasi Perempuan, Analisis Wacana Kritis, Novel This research with descriptive qualitative analysis aimed to (1) described about women representative based on the position of subject ? object on Novel Cinta Berkalang Noda, Cinta pun Merekah Lagi, and Mekar Menjelang Malam created by Mira W according to AWK Sara Mills, (2) described about the position of the writer ? the reader on Novel Cinta Berkalang Noda, Cinta pun Merekah Lagi and Mekar Menjelang Malam created by Mira W according to AWK Sara Mills. The subjects of this research are the novel Cinta Berkalang Noda, and Cinta Pun Merekah Lagi, and Mekar Menjelang Malam. The object is women representation. The data collection methods are documentation, and main instrument by check list on data card. The analysis data used descriptive qualitative by data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The result of the research of women representation according to position of subject ? object are: (1) marginalization was represented on the form of poor women in their housewives life and differentiation position of male and female children to continue their family business. (2) The violence for woman was represented by physic and psyches violence. (3) To gentlemanly about women was represented by the socialization of image, position, nature of character, and acceptance woman fate that was done by male. The position of subject that have a role as a narrator dominant was claimed by a male, meanwhile the position of object was claimed by female. The position of writer and reader was posited to see the problem on subject viewpoint by using third singular personal pronoun ?she/he? and third plural personal pronoun ?they?. According to that finding analysis, we can conclude that (1) women representation according to the position of subject-object there were 22 data that showed the marginalization, violence and gentlemanly and (2) the position of writer-reader put the writer and the reader in one of the position and given influence of the text that showed by third singular personal pronoun ?she/he? and third plural personal pronoun ?they?.keyword : woman representation, discourse analysis critical, novel

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan (1) pengintegrasian pendidikan karakter dalam materi pembelajaran, (2) pengintegrasian pendidikan karakter dalam proses belajar mengajar, dan (3) kemampuan guru mengidentifikasi pendidikan karakter dalam materi dan proses pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia berdasarkan Kurikulum 2013 di kelas VII SMP Negeri 9 Denpasar. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah guru bahasa Indonesia dan objek penelitian ini adalah pengintegrasian pendidikan karakter dalam materi dan proses pembelajaran serta kemampuan guru mengidentifikasi pendidikan karakter dalam pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia berdasarkan Kurikulum 2013 di kelas VII SMP Negeri 9 Denpasar. Metode yang digunakan adalah dokumentasi, observasi, dan kuisioner serta wawancara. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa (1) pengintegrasian pendidikan karakter dalam materi pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia telah terintegrasi dan ditemukan 8 nilai karakter; (2) pengintegrasian pendidikan karakter dalam proses belajar mengajar bahasa Indonesia telah terintegrasi dan ditemukan 12 nilai karakter; dan (3) kemampuan guru dalam mengidentifikasi pendidikan karakter dalam materi dan proses pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia mendapat skor 82 dan 89 dengan predikat baik. Berdasarkan temuan dan hasil pembahasan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa sudah tampak pengintegrasian pendidikan karakter dalam materi dan proses pelaksanaan pembelajaran telah sesuai berdasarkan kurikulum 2013 serta guru memiliki kemampuan yang baik dalam mengidentifikasi pendidikan karakter dalam materi dan proses pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia. The subject of the study was an Indonesian teacher and the object of this study was the integration of character education in learning material and process as well the ability of teacher in identifying character education in Indonesian learning based on curriculum 2013 in class VII SMP Negeri 9 Denpasar. The methods used in collecting data were documentation, observation, questionnaire, and interview. The data were analyzed descriptive qualitative. . The results of this study indicated that (1) the integration of character education in Indonesian learning material had been found 8 characters value; (2) the integration of character education in Indonesian learning process had been integrated and found 12 character values; and (3) teacher?s ability in identifying character education in Indonesian learning material and learning process got scores 82 and 89 as well achievement. Based on the findings and results of the discussion, it could be concluded that the integration of character education in Indonesian learning material was already visible and the teacher had integrated character education during the learning implementation process and had accordingly based on curriculum 2013 and the teacher had a good ability in identifying the character education in Indonesian learning materials.keyword : character education, Indonesian learning

Abstract

Penelitian deskriptif kualitatif ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan (1) strategi yang digunakan oleh guru dalam pembelajaran apresiasi drama pada siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 Kuta Utara, (2) pelaksanaan strategi yang digunakan oleh guru dalam pembelajaran apresiasi drama pada siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 Kuta Utara, dan (3) hasil belajar siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 Kuta Utara dalam pembelajaran apresiasi drama ditinjau dari strategi yang dipilih oleh guru. Subjek penelitian ini adalah guru dan siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 Kuta Utara. Objek penelitian ini adalah strategi yang digunakan oleh guru, pelaksanaan strategi yang digunakan oleh guru, dan hasil belajar siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 Kuta Utara dalam pembelajaran apresiasi drama ditinjau dari strategi yang dipilih oleh guru. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah metode observasi, wawancara, dan tes. Ada beberapa langkah dalam menganalisis data, yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan simpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) strategi yang digunakan guru dalam pembelajaran apresiasi drama, yaitu strategi yang berpusat pada guru dan strategi yang berpusat pada siswa. (2) Pelaksanaan strategi pembelajaran dilakukan guru melalui langkah-langkah pembelajaran yang efektif, baik dalam pendahuluan, kegiatan inti, dan penutup. (3) Hasil belajar siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 Kuta Utara di dalam pembelajaran apresiasi drama tergolong baik, yaitu dengan skor 83,6. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dan pembahasan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa dalam pembelajaran apresiasi drama, guru menggunakan dua strategi yang efektif dapat mencapai tujuan pembelajaran sehingga hasil belajar siswa tergolong baik. Untuk itu, disarankan kepada guru agar lebih meningkatkan pemahamannya terhadap strategi pembelajaran serta cara pengajarannya. The subjects were teacher and students of class VIII SMP Negeri 2 Kuta Utara. The object of this study is the strategy used by the teacher, the implementation of the strategies used by the teacher, and the student learning outcomes of class VIII SMP Negeri 2 Kuta Utara in the drama appreciation learning in terms of the strategy chosen by the teacher. Data collection method used is the observation method, interview, and test. There are several steps in analyzing the data, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The results showed that (1) the strategies used by the teacher in the drama appreciation learning, which is the teacher centered strategy and the student centered strategy. (2) The implementation of strategies does by the teacher through the steps of effective learning. (3) The student learning outcomes of class VIII SMP Negeri 2 Kuta Utara in the drama appreciation learning is good, with a score of 83.6. Based on the results and discussion, can be concluded that the drama appreciation learning, teacher use two strategies that can effectively achieve the learning objectives so that student learning outcomes are classified as good. Therefore, it is suggested to teacher in order to further enhance their understanding of learning strategies and ways of teaching.keyword : Learning strategies and drama appreciation

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki, mendeskripsikan dan menjelaskan bagaimana maxim percakapan diobservasi oleh siswa-siswa Front Office di Mediterranean College ketika mereka praktek bekerja sebagai staff Front Office dan jenis maxims non-observance apa yang dihasilkan oleh siswa-siswa Front Office dalam mengobservasi maxim percakapan dalam kaitannya dengan kesopanan. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa-siswa Front Office di Mediterranean College. Data untuk penelitian kualitatif ini dikumpulkan melalui observasi dan wawancara yang kemudian dianalisa dengan menggunakan teori Cooperative Principle dari Paul Grice?s (1975). Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa baik siswa laki-laki dan perempuan menghasilkan persentase tinggi dalam mengobservasi maxim of quantity (45.09%) untuk persentase siswa laki-laki dan (55.71%) untuk persentase siswa perempuan. Penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa maxim of quantity adalah maxim dominan yang diobservasi oleh siswa-siswa front office di Mediterranean College. Hal terpenting yakni membangun sebuah percakapan seinformatif sebagaimana yang diperlukan. Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa-siswa Front Office mengobservasi maxim percakapan dalam melakukan reservasi. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa-siswa front office laki-laki dan perempuan menghasilkan persentase tinggi dari maxim of quantity guna membangun percakapan seinformatif sebagaimana yang diperlukan. Kata Kunci : Maxims Percakapan, Gender, Observance of maxims, Non-observance of maxims, Kesopanan This study was intended to investigate, describe and explain how conversational maxims are observed by the Front Office Students at Mediterranean College when they do the practice as Front Office Staff and what types of non-observance are committed by the Front Office Students in observing conversational maxims in relation to politeness. The subjects were the Front Office students of Mediterranean College. The data for this qualitative study were collected through observation and interviews which were then analyzed by using Paul Grice?s (1975) Cooperative Principle theory. The study showed that the Front Office students observed conversational maxims in certain part of handling table reservation. This study found that both male and female students produced high percentage of observing maxim of quantity (45.09%) of male students percentage and (55.71%) of female students percentage. This study also found that maxim of quantity was the dominant maxim observed by the front office students at Mediterranean College. The point was making a conversation as informative as is required. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mnggambarkan implementasi model pembelajaran inkuiri pada kelas taman kanak kanak di Sekolah Intenational Memorial Gandhi ? Bali. Model pembelajaran inkuiri adalah sebuah model pembeljaran yang diguanakan oleh guru untuk mengajar siswa. Model pembelajaran ini membuat siswa aktif sebagai pusat dari pembelajaran. Data dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis deskirptifmenerapkan model Miles dan Huberman (1994). Teknik pengumpulan adalah observasi partisipan dan dokumnetasi. Kegiatan analisis data adalah reduksi data, display data dan penarikan kesimpulan atau verifikasi. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa guru mengikuti siklus inkuiri dalam implementasi pembelajaran berbasis inkuiri dalam menerapkan kurikulum International Baccalaureate. Temuan dalam penelitian ini dapat diambil sebagai referensi bagi peneliti lain yang melakukan penelitian lanjutan tentang implementasi model pembelajaran berbasis inkuiri. Hal ini juga menyediakan sumber alternatif dan bimbingan untuk penelitian berikutnya untuk mendapatkan hasil yang lebih baik dan lebih akurat. Kata Kunci : Pembelajaran berbasis inkuiri, kurikulum international Baccalaureate, siklus inkuiri This research aimed to describe the implementation of inquiry based learning model in grade kindergarten in Gandhi Memorial International School (GMIS) ? Bali. Inquiry Based learning model is a model used by the teacher to teach the students. This model of learning make the students be active as students the center of the learning. Technique in collecting the data were participant observation and documentation. The instruments of the data were photo, video, observation sheet of the cycle in implementing inquiry based learning. The data were analyzed using the descriptive analysis technique applying the Miles and Huberman (1994) model. The activities of data analysis were data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing and verification. The result of this study showed that the teacher followed the inquiry cycle in implementing inquiry based learning model in applying International Baccalaureate curriculum. The findings of this research can be taken as a references for other researcher who do advanced research about implementation inquiry based learning model. It also provides an alternative source and guidance for the next studies to obtain better and more accurate result. keyword : Inquiry Based Learning, International Baccalaureate curriculum, inquiry cycle

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur 1) kontribusi pengetahuan konten untuk kompetensi berbicara siswa, 2) kontribusi kepercayaan diri untuk kompetensi berbicara siswa, 3) kontribusi motivasi instrumental untuk kompetensi berbicara siswa, 4) kontribusi simultan pengetahuan konten, kepercayaan diri dan motivasi instrumental untuk kompetensi berbicara siswa. Penelitian ini memanfaatkan sebuah studi ex post facto dengan analisis regresi. Penelitian ini dilakukan terhadap siswa semester enam kelas hotel manajemen STPBI di tahun akademik 2015/2016. Sampel dari penelitian ini berjumlah 30 siswa yang ditentukan melalui teknik purposive sampling. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisis regresi berganda dengan dua jenis instrumen, yaitu, tes dan kuesioner. 1) Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: ada kontribusi yang signifikan dari pengetahuan konten pada kompetensi berbicara siswa sebesar 22,9%, 2) ada kontribusi yang signifikan dari kepercayaan diri pada kompetensi berbicara siswa sebesar 19,1%, 3) ada kontribusi yang signifikan dari motivasi instrumental pada kompetensi berbicara siswa sebesar 16,2%, 4) ada kontribusi yang signifikan dari pengetahuan konten, kepercayaan diri dan motivasi instrumental pada kompetensi berbicara siswa sebesar 38,6%. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, para guru disarankan agar lebih mengembangkan cara untuk mengajarkan pengetahuan konten, kepercayaan diri dan motivasi instrumental untuk meningkatkan kompetensi berbicara siswa. The present research makes use of an ex post facto study with regression analysis. The research was done toward the sixth grade students? hotel management of STPBI in academic year 2015/2016. The sample of the study was 30 which were determined through purposive sampling technique. This research used multiple regression analysis with two kinds of instruments, that is, tests and questionnaires. 1) The results show that: there is significant contribution of content knowledge to the students? speaking competency at 22,9%, 2) there is significant contribution of self-confidence to the students? speaking competency at 19,1%, 3) there is significant contribution of instrumental motivation to the students? speaking competency at 16,2%, 4) there is significant contribution of content knowledge, self-confidence and instrumental motivation to the students? speaking competency at 38,6%. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan mendeskripsikan kompetensi gramatikal dan kompetensi wacana pada teks laporan hasil observasi siswa. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X9 SMAN 1 Praya yang berjumlah 25 siswa. Objek penelitian ini adalah kompetensi gramatikal dan kompetensi wacana pada teks laporan hasil observasi. Data penelitian tentang kompetensi gramatikal dan kompetensi wacana dikumpulkan dengan tes membuat teks laporan hasil observasi. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kompetensi gramatikal siswa yang terdapat pada teks laporan hasil observasi sudah sangat baik dengan perolehan skor 89. Perolehan skor tersebut apabila dikonversi ke dalam pedoman konversi skala lima, skor tersebut berada pada predikat sangat baik. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa kompetensi wacana siswa yang terdapat pada teks laporan hasil observasi juga sangat baik dengan perolehan skor 96,8. Apabila dikonversi menggunakan pedoman konversi skala lima, maka skor tersebut berada pada predikat sangat baik. Penentuan skor kompetensi gramatikal yang terkandung dalam teks laporan hasil observasi, dinilai dari dua kriteria yakni berupa morfologi dan sintaksis. Pada kompetensi morfologi, terdapat aspek pembentukan kata. Pada kompetensi sintaksis, terdapat aspek analisis kalimat berdasarkan struktur fungsi. Adapun penentuan skor dalam kompetensi wacana yang terdapat pada teks laporan hasil observasi siswa ditentukan atas aspek kohesi dan koherensi. Pada aspek kohesi terdapat kohesi leksikal dan kohesi gramatikal. Pada aspek koherensi terdapat kesatuan konsep dan relasi yang relevan, adanya perkembangan, tidak adanya kontradiksi, adanya identitas individual, dan adanya seleksi fakta. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa kompetensi gramatikal dan kompetensi wacana pada teks laporan hasil observasi siswa kelas X9 SMAN 1 Praya sudah sangat baik. Berdasarkan simpulan ini, disarankan agar guru-guru bahasa Indonesia dalam usaha meningkatkan kompetensi menulis siswa agar dipertahankan dan jika mungkin ditingkatkan lagi. This research is quantitative descriptive. Subjects were students of SMAN 1 Praya X9 class numbering 25 students. The object of this study is the grammatical competence and the competence of the discourse on the text of the report on the observation. Data research on grammatical competence and discourse competence collected with assays create text reports on the results of observation. Data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative method. The results showed that the students' grammatical competence contained in the text of the report on the observation has been very good with the acquisition of a score of 89. The scores Obtaining when converted into a five-star scale conversion guidelines, the scores are in very good predicate. The results also showed that the competence of student discourse contained in the text of the report on the observation was also very good with the acquisition of a score of 96.8. When converted using a five-scale conversion guidelines, then the scores are in very good predicate. Scoring of grammatical competence contained in the text of the report on the observation, judged on two criteria in the form of morphology and syntax. On the competence of morphology, there are aspects of word formation. On syntactic competence, there are aspects of the analysis of the sentence based on the structure function. As for the scoring in the competence of the discourse contained in the text of the report on the observation of students determined on aspects of cohesion and coherence. In the aspect of cohesion there is cohesion lexical and grammatical cohesion. In the aspect of coherence there is unity of concepts and relationships that are relevant, their development, the absence of contradiction, their individual identity, and their selection of facts. Based on these findings, we can conclude that grammatical competence and the competence of the discourse on the text of the report on the observation X9 grade students of SMAN 1 Praya has been very good. Based on this conclusion, it is suggested that Indonesian teachers in an effort to improve students' writing competence to be maintained and if possible improved.keyword : grammatical competence, discourse competence, text reports of observation
