Abstract

This research was conducted from December 2011 until April 2012 in Post-Harvest Technology Laboratory, Laboratory Nutrition Science and Chemistry Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Science of Islamic State University of Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau and Chemical Fisheries Product Laboratory of Fisheries and Marine Sciences Faculty of Riau University. This study aims to determine the effect of soaking dried meat (dendeng) goat in juice of betel leaves to TBA and fat value with different concentration and storage time. The research used a Completely Randomzed Design with 2 x 2 factorial with two replications. The factors were concentration of betel leaf juice (0%, 10%, 20%, 30% and 40%) and storage time (0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 months). Observed variables were the TBA score and fat of dried goat meat (dendeng). The results indicated that dried meat goat (dendeng) soakied in the juice of betel leaves and storage time influence significantly (P< 0.05) on TBA score and fat of dried meat goat. The best result was soaking dried meat goat (dendeng) on 20% of betel leaf juice during 1 months storage

Abstract

The control strategies of avian influenza (AI) inpedaging operations primarily depend on tight biosecuritymeanwhile management practices on farm. This experiment was designed to study the relationship between the level ofbiosecurity and the incidence of AI in one rearing period ofpedaging farms at sector-3 with an opened house system. Thisstudy was done in contractpedaging company farms of PT. Duta Technovet which has a minimum of 1.000 chickens. Thisstudy was conducted in 18 houses (n) ofpedaging farms which were distributed in 3 different villages of 3 differentsubdistricts and districts in Yogyakarta Special Region. Sixpedaging houses were selected from Sendang Sari Village ofPajangan subdistrict of the district of Bantul; 6 pedaging houses were from Getas Village of Playen subdistrict of the district of Gunungkidul; and 6pedaging houses were from Pakem village of Pakem subdistrict of the district of Sleman. The judgment based on the score of the prepared questionnaire for thepedaging farmers. Isolation of AI virus employing cloacal swab was done in the Virology Laboratory of Balai Besar Veteriner (BBVet) Wates. Data were collected and analyzed with the Fisher's exact test (FET), using the software SPSS of Windows version 15.0. The results of this study indicate that the presence of stable air ventilation sufficient to give significant results on the incidence of AI disease inpedagings, with P <0.01.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to know the influence of applying of black radish (Xanthosomtt SlIgittifolium) tuber meal and methionine and interaction of them in the growth period quail ration. The experiment was designed as completely randomized design in factoriaJ mode with 2 factors (levels of black radish tuber meal and methionine) and 4 replications. The result showed that the black radish tuber meal might be applied up to 24" in grQwth period quail ration and the addition of 0.2% methionine to the ration resulted the better growth.

Abstract

Penelitian ini melibatkan 47 orang peternak yang melakukan pemerahan Kerbau Lumpur di Sumatera Barat Penelitian untuk memperoleh gambaran tentmg produksi susUJ reproduksi dan manajemen kerbau perah di Sumatera Barat, diIaksanakan muIai Oktober 1991 sampai Oktober 2006. Daerah sampel dan petemak responden ditetapkan dengan menggunakan metoda Purposive Random Sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, produksi susu per ekor per hari , lama Iaktasi dan produksi susu per laktasi berturut-turut sebagai berikut: 2,40 ± 0,53 kg, 8,89 ± 1,73 bulan dan 664 ,66 ± 174,01 kg, reproduksi : umur kawin pertama, lama bunting, jarak anak, interval sudah melahirkan sampai bunting kembali, lama kering dan frekuensi kawin maka bunting berturut -turut seperti berikut : 2,76 ± 1,95 tahun; 11,05 ± 0,31 bulan; 15,34 ± 1,95 bulan; 3,53 ± 0,99 bulan; 4,25 ± 2,10 bulan dan 1,6 ± 0,5 . Manajemen : pemeliharaan dan perawatm anak kerbau , kerbau dara , kerbau laktasi, kerbau kering dan kerbau jantm adalah sarna. Kerbau hanya diberi rumput dan daunan lain tmpa diberi makanan konsentrat Kerbau dikelola dengan usaha yang minimal dan biaya yang rendah.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are : 1) to know the characteristics of cattle farmers in the village of Koto Benai -Kuantan Singingi, 2) to determine the factors that influence motivation in raising cattle of Koto Benai Village ~ Kuantan Singingi and 3) to know the level ofmotivation in raising cattle of Koto Benai Village -Kuantan Singingi. In this research, cattle farmers in the Koto ofBenai village who have their own cattle or get the sponsorship were used as respondents. Census method was use in this research by giving the queationnaires and direct interviews to the farmers, 25 cattle in the village of Koto Benai were as the samples. The characteristics of cattle farmers in the village of Koto Benai showed that the highly productive age (15 -45 years), 40% have complete the primary school is -do not finish high school, 64% never followed the non-Jorinal education, 60% had low family dependents «5 people), income was 60% (Rp.1.000.000 -2.000.000) and 60% had experience of trying to livestock is (2 -4 years). Motivation of the respondents as a whole is high with a score of 1.202. There is no correlation between motivation and factors that influence motivation (age, formal education, non-formal education, number offamily dependents, income, and experience in the cattle activities).

Abstract

 Meat is a food from animal that have a high nutrient contents (water, protein, fat, vitamins and minerals). This food is very perishable, because its has enough elements of good nutrition. The nutrient content of meat makes a very suitable medium for the growth of microorganisms, especially bacteria. The presence of bacterial contamination in meat will impact on the meat quality of physical and microbiological. This study aimed to determine the physical and microbiological quality of beef carcass and meat from the slaughterhouse in Pekanbaru and compared with the Indonesian National Standard (INS) No. 3932: 2008 on carcass and meat quality of beef. The results showed that the pH of beef muscle Longissimus Dorsi et lumbarum (LD) is at 5:37, while the Biceps Femoris (BF) is 5.56. Meat color values in LD muscle have a score of 6 (red light), while the flesh BF has a score of 7 (red is a bit darker). While the value of the percentage of free water in LD muscle is 61.80% higher than the BF muscle is 53.53%. Microbiological analysis of the microbial contamination Total Plate Count (TPC), Eschericia coli and Coliform in fresh meat from slaughterhouses inPekanbaru city is above the maximum threshold according to INS 3932: 2008, but negative for Salmonella contamination. The conclusion of this study that physical (pH, color, and percentage of free water) origin beef slaughterhouses in Pekanbaru city still has a good quality and are in the normal range of fresh meat. But in terms of microbiological contamination, especially bacteria TPC, E. coli and coliform were above standard.

Abstract

Lactic acid bacteria as probiotic are considered alternative to antibiotic growth promotor. The aims of this study wereto investigate inhibition of lactic acid bacteria isolated from completed feed silage based on corn silage (SRKJ), palm silage(SRKS) and cassava silage (SRKU) by products. Data from Factorial Completely Randomized Design were analyzedvariance followed by Duncan test. The result showed that the inhibition and number lactic acid bacteria isolated from SRKJ(0,38 cm, 6,05 cfu/gr) were higher (P<0,05) than those of SRKS (0,27 cm, 5,82 cfu/gr) and SRKU (0,22 cm, 5,14 cfu/gr).It is concluded that lactic acid bacteria from SRKJ was the best in term of number latic acid bacteria and inhibition ability.

Abstract

Th~ research rums to kn~~ the comparison of Pesisir and Bali c~ws reproductive perfvrmances in artificial~nsem~natlon ar~a! Bayang~ Peslslr Selatan. Data was collected using sample accidental methode on 130 and 41msemmated Peslslr and Ball cows respectively. The data was analyzed using t and z tests. .. The. result ~ho.wed that the first se,rvice after calving rate and the calving interval ofPesisir and Bali cows weredl~e~ent highly. slgruficant but the calvmg rate are different significantly. The first service after calving rate ofPeslslr .and Balt cows are 268.7~ and 211.86 days, and the calving interval of the are 545.12 and 500.63 days. respectively. Furthermore the calvmg rate ofthem are 73.07% and 50% and the pregnant periode are 277.39 and 278 days respectively.

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to identify the infestation of Fasciola sp on Bali cows in the different management systems. The research was done on June up to July 2007 at Tanjung Rambutan village, Kampar and BPPV Regional 0, Buldt Tinggi.Feces of 60 Bali cows from Tanjung Rambutan village were collected. The qualification of the cows are(1) the age should be more than 1.5 years old, (2) female and (3) free from wonn drugs. The 60 cows used in the research consist of 50 cows which were cared extensively and 10 cows intensively. The samples of feces were collected from the rectum, and examined for Fasciola sp eggs using the sedimentation test (Uji End4p). The data was analyzed using Chi Square method.The results of the research indicated that infestation of Fasciola sp on Bali cows were lower in the intensively farming than extensively. The laboratory test showed that 92% (46 samples) of Ball Cows which were cared extensively, infested by Fasciola sp eggs and 8% (4 samples) of them were negative. From 10 samples of Bali cows which were, 1 sample (10%) positively infected by theJasciola sp and 9 samples (90%) were negative.

Abstract

Nutrient content in fresh meat is the best nutrient for growing and living microorganism like bacteria because their activity could decreased the quality of fresh meat. In order to maintain the quality of fresh meat, the good handling with using the natural preservative agent such as bee honey (Genus Apis) was needed. The latest research showed that bee honey had antimicrobial activity in its compound i.e. flavonoids (galangin and quercetin), enzymes glucose oxydase, lysozyme, sugars, aromatic adds and esters, etc. This research was carried out to know the effect of using bee honey with 4 levels concentration 0%, 10%, 20% and 30% as immersion liquid of fresh meat. Parameters of this research consists of pH value, moisture, total coloni bacteria and sensory properties (colour, aroma and texture). Experiment design was complete random design with 4 levels concentration of bee honey as treatments and 3 replications. The result showed that immersion of fresh meat in 30% solution of bee honey could decreased pH value to 4,14, moisture to 68,58 %, total colony bacteria to 1,6 x 1()i. CPU/ g and still kept the sensory properties of fresh meat.
