Abstract

The study aims at identifying the difference on the effectiveness between the Quantum Teaching Learning Model and the Expository Learning Model in improving the students’ critical thinking skills and concept understanding in Social Science. The method that has been selected is the quasi-experimental research using the non-equivalent pre-test and post-test control group design. Then, the subjects in the study are 22 students of Grade IV Gunung Raja State Elementary School as the experimental group and 23 students of Grade IV Pulau Sari 1 State Elementary School as the control group from the Academic Year 2015/2016. The selection of the experimental group and the control group is based on the students’ similar characteristics with random approach. Based on the results of the random sampling technique implementation, the students from Gunung Sari State Elementary High School is provided with the Quantum Teaching Learning Model (experimental group) while the students from Pulau Sari 1 State Elementary High School is provided with the expository learning model (control group). In analyzing the data that have been gathered, the researcher has conducted the independent sample t-test and the paired sample t-test with SPSS 23 for Windows. The results of the study show that the Quantum Teaching Learning Model has bee more effective in comparison to the Expository Learning Model for improving the students’ critical thinking skills with significance value 0.000 0.050. In the same time, the results of the study also show that the Quantum Teaching Learning Model has been more effective in comparison to the Expository Learning Model for improving the students’ Social Science concept understanding with significance value 0.000 0.050.

Abstract

The study aims at generating a product in the form of comic book and also displaying the feasibility and the effectiveness of the comic book in improving the mathematical problem-solving skills and the self-confidence of the Grade IV students in the Muhammadiyah Elementary School Condongcatur Yogyakarta. The study is a Research and Development initiative (R) with reference to 10 stages that have been developed by Borg Gall. During the conduct of the study, the subjects were the Grade IV students of Muhammadiyah Elementary School Condongcatur Yogyakarta. The results of the study show that: (1) a comic book-based learning media that meet the criteria of feasibility based on the validation results by the material expert, the media expert, the teacher response and the students response have been generated with “Good” category; and (2) the comic book-based learning media that have been generated are effective for improving the students’ mathematical problem-solving skills and also the students’ self-confidence.

Abstract

Child labor is the social phenomena that not only exist in Indonesia but also in other developing countries. These children work in several sectors including in the small industrial sector. As a young generation, they also must be able to compete in the work world. Therefore, aspiration achievement is an urgent matter and must be considered by stakeholder. On the other hand, the influence of globalization is increasingly global, especially in the field of communication. Representations from this field include on the mass media. Child labor who lives in the global era is also very familiar with the mass media. The study aimed to reveal the influence of information on radio, television and family environment on aspirations achievement of child labor at the leather industry handicraft center in Wukirsari, Imogiri, Bantul. The population of this study was child workers aged 10-14 years, who worked in the leather industry handicraft centers in Wukirsari, Imogiri, Bantul and were still taking study in school, which had a total of 119 child workers. Questionnaire instruments used to obtain data of all variable. The regression analysis technique used to test the hypothesis. The results of the study showed that there was a significant positive influence on the habit to follow information from the mass media and the family environment on the aspirations of child laborers at the leather industry handicraft center in Wukirsari.

Abstract

This study aimed at: (1) generating sociocultural base-thematic-integrative learning instrument on the theme “My Aspiration” for the students of SD N Pujokusuman 1; and (2) identifying the effectiveness of the sociocultural base-thematic-integrative learning instrument on the theme “My Aspiration”. This study referred to the steps that had been developed by Borg Gall. The developmental design was categorized into three procedures which consisted of: (a) preliminary stage; (b) development stage; and (c) testing stage. The subjects of the main experiment were 28 elementary school students. Then, the subjects of the operational test were 84 students from SDN Pujokusuman 1. The subjects of operational product test in the experimental group were 56 students and in the control group were 28 students. In gathering the data for this study, the researcher employed interview guideline, learning instrument product assessment sheet, teacher’s checklist observation sheet, student’s checklist observation sheet, learning results test, and teacher’s response questionnaire. In conducting the data analysis, the researcher made use of independent sample t-test with the rate of significance 0.05. The results of the study show that the learning instrument belongs to the “Good” category. The implementation of the learning instrument, in general, belongs to the “Very Good” category. However, there are differences between the control group and the experimental group after the implementation of the sociocultural based-thematic-integrative learning instrument with p 0.05. There is also a significant improvement with p = 0.0001.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) menghasilkan perangkat pembelajaran collaborative learning berbasis kearifan lokal yang layak untuk meningkatkan karakter nasionalisme dan kreatif siswa dan (2) mengetahui keefektifan perangkat pembelajaran collaborative learning berbasis kearifan lokal untuk meningkatkan karakter nasionalisme dan kreatif siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dan pengembangan mengacu pendapat BorgGall, tetapi desain pengembangan perangkat pembelajaran ini hanya meliputi 9 langkah, yaitu (1) penelitian pendahuluan dan pengumpulan informasi, (2) perencanaan, (3) pengembangan draft produk, (4) uji coba terbatas, (5) merevisi hasil uji coba terbatas, (6) uji coba lapangan, (7) penyempurnaan produk hasil uji coba lapangan, (8) uji coba lapangan operasional, dan (9) penyempurnaan produk akhir. Subyek penelitian adalah siswa kelas IV SD Piyungan Bantul. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa perangkat pembelajaran ini layak digunakan menurut ahli materi dan ahli pembelajaran dengan kategori sangat valid. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diketahui, bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan terhadap karakter nasionalisme dan kreatif antara siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan perangkat pembelajaran collaborative learning berbasis kearifan lokal dan yang tidak menggunakan perangkat pembelajaran hasil pengembangan. Kata Kunci: perangkat pembelajaran collaborative learning, nasionalisme, kreatif Developing Collaborative Learning Kits Based on Local Wisdom to Improve Nationalism and Creative Character AbstractThis study aims to (1) produce a collaborative learning kit based on local wisdom that is feasible to improve nationalism and creative character and (2) find out the effectiveness of the collaborative learning kit based on local wisdom to improve nationalism and creative character. This study is a research and development refering to the opinion of Borg Gall, but the design of learning kits consists of only nine steps, including (1) research and information collection, (2) planning, (3) developing preliminary form of draft product, (4) preliminary field testing, (5) main product revision, (6) main field testing, (7) operational product testing, (8) operational field testing, and (9) final product revision. Subjects were fourth grade students Piyungan Bantul. The results show that the learning kit is effective to improve nationalism and creative character of students according to the material expert and learning expert with very valid assessment category. Based on the result showed that there are significant differences in nationalism and creative character of students who take the study with collaborative learning kits based on local wisdom with those who do not use learning kits.Keywords: collaborative learning kits, nationalism, creative

Abstract

This research aims to find out the effect of the cooperative problem-based learning on the improvement of the critical thinking and interpersonal intelligence of the fifth-grade students. This research was a quasi-experiment with the pretest-posttest control group design. The subjects were all fifth-grade students of SDN Liang Anggang 1, Pandahan 1, and Pandahan 2, Bati-Bati District of South Kalimantan in the second semester of the academic year 2015/2016. Data collection techniques that used were test and scale technique. The test was used to find out the critical thinking and the scale were used to find out the interpersonal intelligence.The hypothesis was tested using t-test and MANOVA with 0.05 significant levels. The result of this research shows that the use of the cooperative problem-based learning model in natural science teaching is effective in improving critical thinking and interpersonal intelligence of the fifth-grade students. Based on the result of t-test in posttest, the experimental I and II with control group show that the sig. 0.05 and the result of the MANOVA in the experimental I and II with control group show that the significant value 0.000 ˂ 0.05.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan pengaruh Subject Spesific Pedagogy (SSP) tematik integratif terhadap peningkatan: (1) karakter kejujuran, dan (2) karakter kepedulian pada siswa kelas II SDN Karet 1 Sepatan Tangerang. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuasi eksperimen dengan rancangan penelitian nonequivalent-groups pretest-posttest design. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas II SDN Karet 1 Sepatan Tangerang yang terdiri atas empat rombongan belajar. Sampel penelitian ini sebanyak tiga kelas yang ditentukan menggunakan simple cluster random technique. Hasil penelitian adalah sebagai berikut. (1) pembelajaran menggunakan SSP tematik integratif berpengaruh positif dan signifikan dibandingkan dengan pembelajaran tanpa menggunakan SSP tematik integratif terhadap peningkatan karakter kejujuran siswa SD (Sig.= 0,000 0,05). (2) Pembelajaran menggunakan SSP tematik integratif berpengaruh positif dan signifikan dibandingkan dengan pembelajaran tanpa menggunakan SSP tematik integratif terhadap peningkatan karakter kepedulian siswa SD (Sig.= 0,000 0,05).Kata Kunci: SSP tematik integratif, karakter kejujuran, karakter kepedulian, siswa SD THE EFFECT OF INTEGRATIVE THEMATIC SSP ON THE IMPROVEMENT OF CHARACTERS OF HONESTY AND CARE AMONG GRADE II ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS AbstractThis study aims to investigate the effect of the integrative thematic Subject-Specific Pedagogy (SSP) on the improvement of characters honesty and care among grade II students of SDN Karet 1, Sepatan, Tangerang. This was a quasi-experimental study employing the nonequivalent-groups pretest-posttest design. The research population comprised grade II students of SDN Karet 1, Sepatan, Tangerang, consisting of four classes. The sample, consisting of three classes, was established by means of the cluster random sampling technique. The results of the study are as follows. (1) The learning through the integrative thematic SSP has a more significant effect and positive than that without the use of integrative thematic SSP learning in terms of the improvement of elementary school students’ character of honesty (Sig. = 0.000 0.05). (2) The learning through the integrative thematic SSP has a more significant effect and positive than that without the use of integrative thematic SSP learning in terms of the improvement of elementary school students’ character of care (Sig.= 0.000 0.05).Keywords: integrative thematic SSP, honesty, care, elementary students

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk untuk meningkatkan soft skills pada pembelajaran tematik integratif kompetensi IPA melalui metode inquiry pada kompetensi IPA di kelas Va SD Bakalan Bantul dan mendeskripsikan  peningkatan soft skills siswa dengan pembelajaran tematik integratif melalui  metode inquiry. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas, yang terdiri atas tiga  siklus. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SD Bakalan Bantul pada bulan November sampai dengan Desember 2014. Objek penelitian adalah seluruh siswa kelas Va yang berjumlah 28 siswa. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui observasi, tes tulis, wawancara, dokumentasi, dan catatan lapangan.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pelaksanaan pembelajaran tematik integratif dengan metode inquiry dapat meningkatkan soft skills siswa pada kompetensi IPAKata Kunci: soft skills, tematik integratif, inquiry  Improving soft skills in integrated thematic science learning competence through inquiry method in class V SDAbstractThis study aims to increase soft skills of students in thematic integrative learning with inquiry methods and to describe  the implementation  an integrated thematic learning with inquiry methods on science competence. Abstract

Natural science learning in elementary schools is considered difficult by students due to its complexity. Teachers have not been fully able to present the natural science lesson in accordance to the characteristics of elementary school students who are still love to play. Those making the learning process and outcomes have not been maximized and require learning media to overcome the problem. This study aimed to: (1) understanding the way to develop science monopoly in Force learning material; and (2) understanding the quality and feasibility of science monopoly. This study was research and development by ADDIE model in five stages, which are; analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The test of the product was conducted to the 4thgrade students of Muhammadiyah Bausasran 1 Elementary School, Yogyakarta. Instruments have been stated as valid by the expert judgement. The instruments were questionnaire of the feasibility of material, media, and learning expert; questionnaire of students response; and teacher response. Data analysis techniques were qualitative and quantitative data analysis. The assessment score of the media expert validation was 86.5 (very good), subject material expert was 87.5 (very good), learning expert was 85 (very good), teacher response was 100 (very good), and students response was 92.5 (very good).Thus, the learning media of science monopoly on force learning materials for elementary students was already feasible to use as a media of natural science learning.

Abstract

The study aims at composing a picture book using the thematic-integrative approach that might improve the reading comprehension skills of the Grade IV students. With regards to the conduct of the study, the initiative that has been taken is research and development (RD). Within this initiative, product development refers to the model that has been developed by Borg Gall. Then, throughout the conduct of the study, 19 students had been involved as the field subjects and the data had been gathered by means of guided interview technique, observation, product fitness questionnaire, teacher and student response questionnaire and reading comprehension skills test. Furthermore, the product effectiveness had been tested by means of the quasi-experiment method and the data had been analysed by using the paired sample t-test with a significant rate of 0.05. The results of the study show that: (1) the thematic-integrative-based picture book has been fit for implementation as learning media based on the “Very Good” category that has been assigned by the media expert and the “Good” category by the material expert; and (2) the thematic-integrative-based picture book has been effective in improving the reading comprehension skills as having been confirmed by the improvement from the mean score 72.11 in the pre-test results into the mean score 81.63 in the post-test results. The improvement in the students’ reading comprehension skills has been shown by the significance value (p) 0.000. In addition, based on the paired-sample t-test it is found that p 0.05. This value indicates that the thematic-integrative-based picture book has a significant influence on the improvement of reading comprehension skills among Grade IV students.
