Abstract

A patients with Grave Ophthalmopathy who underwent orbital decompression surgery involving two walls, medial and lateral. The surgery was performed in collaboration with an ENT specialist. This case report described a patient who presented with Thyroid Eye Disease NOSPEC V. It has been reported that a 35-year-old male had complained of bilateral proptosis, decreased visual acuity, and eye pain. The patient had been diagnosed with hyperthyroid 1 year before coming to the eye clinic. The patient was given a peribulbar steroid injection, but no improvement was observed. Visual acuity of the right eye was 3/60 and the left eye was 1/60. Lagophthalmos were seen on both eyes, 6mm in the right and 4mm in the left. The cornea of the right eye had infiltrated due to exposure keratitis. Proper eye movement was restricted to superonasal. The patient underwent medial and lateral orbital wall decompression of the left eye. Left eye visual acuity was improved to 20/150. Lagophthalmos was improved up to 3 mm. Medial and lateral orbital wall decompression are minimally invasive procedures involving removing a small portion of the bone from either the medial or lateral wall of the orbit. This allows more space for the eye to move backward, reducing pressure on the optic nerve and improving vision. This procedure also improves the cosmetic appearance of the eye. The ophthalmologic specialist performed the lateral wall decompression, and the ENT specialist performed the medial wall decompression. Medial and lateral orbital wall decompression has proven to be effective in treating patients with proptosis. The procedures have a low complication rate, and patients typically experience a significant improvement in their symptoms within a few weeks of the surgery.  Keywords:  orbital decompression, trans endoscopic decompression, thyroid eye disease

Abstract

Rhinorrhea is a predominant symptom of nasal inflammation that comes from the nose's activation glands to produce mucus. Objective: To found out the effectiveness of providing nasal irrigation educational videos on the recovery rate of rhinorrhea patients at the Ibnu Sina Gresik Hospital. Methods: This research used a quasi-experimental design was applied by employing Jamovi to do univariate analysis in describing the characteristics of each variable, such as age, gender, level of education, and Rhinorrhea as the predominant disease. In addition, bivariate analysis used chi-square to test the effectiveness differentiation of giving nasal irrigation video to patients who received the video and patients who did not. Results: Univariate analysis reported that 21 patients were male (52,5%), 12 patients (47,5%) were between 20-44 years old, 16 patients (40%) experienced high school level, and 11 patients (27,5%) had vasomotor rhinitis disease. Chi-square analysis showed a significance value of 0.685, indicating no difference in the recovery rate between rhinorrhea patients receiving nasal irrigation video and those not receiving it. Conclusion: There is no significant difference in the recovery of rhinorrhea outpatients who received and those who did not receive educational videos about nasal irrigation. Keywords: educational video, rhinorrhea, recovery rate

Abstract

Gaming disorder is often found among children and adolescents. This disorder of self-control over games that cause addiction is defined by WHO as a behavioral disorder. Risk factors for gaming disorder come from internal factors and external factors. One of the significant external risk factors is parents' parenting style towards their children. Objective: To explored and analyze external risk factors for gaming disorders in adolescents related to parental parenting patterns. Methods: The research method used is qualitative with a phenomenological approach using purposive and in-depth interview techniques. There were 12 informants, 8 of whom were primary informants and 4 of whom were key informants. The main informant was an adolescent mobile legends game player in Surabaya who was diagnosed with gaming disorder based on the results of a preliminary study using the gaming disorder instrument from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5). Results: parenting patterns at risk are parenting patterns that pamper children, parenting patterns that lack control over parents, and parenting patterns that are indifferent and harsh. Conclusion: Ineffective parenting has an impact on teenagers' self-control, which has the potential to cause teenagers to fall into gaming addiction or gaming disorder. Keywords:  adolescents, gaming disorder, parenting style

Abstract

Infection is one of the factors associated with stunting. The relationship between stunting and infection can have reciprocal effects. Stunting can increase the risk of infection. Conversely, infections such as Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH) and Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) can also increase the risk of stunting. Objective: To analyzed the correlation between STH infection and the incidence of tuberculosis (TB) in stunting toddlers. Methods: The subjects of this study were 108 stunting toddlers obtained from a simple random sampling method. It was conducted from May 2023 to March 2024 in several villages within the Rambipuji District of Jember Regency, including Gugut, Rambigundam, Pecoro, and Kaliwining. The statistical analysis used in this study was the contingency coefficient test. Results: Findings revealed that the occurrence of STH infection with TB in stunting toddlers was 0%. Conclusion: There is no statistically significant relationship between STH infection and the incidence of TB in stunting toddlers in the Rambipuji District, Jember Regency. Keywords: soil-transmitted helminths, tuberculosis, stunting

Abstract

Unexpected changes in various aspects of life during the COVID-19 pandemic have made students more vulnerable to anxiety. Anxiety among students, especially medical students, requires more attention because it might affect their academic performance and professional development. One factor that may affect anxiety is the ability to manage emotions or emotional intelligence. The higher the emotional intelligence, the better the emotion management skill. Objective: To determined the correlation between emotional intelligence and anxiety levels during the COVID-19 pandemic among third-year medical students at Tanjungpura University. Methods: This study was an analytical cross-sectional study. A total of 79 students participated in the study. The emotional intelligence and Beck Anxiety Inventory questionnaires were used to measure emotional intelligence and anxiety levels, respectively. Data were analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. Results: The results of the emotional intelligence correlation test with anxiety on self-awareness variables (p = 0.006; r = -0,307), self-control (p = 0.491; r = -0.079), motivation (p = 0.097; r = -0.188), empathy (p = 0.933; r = -0.010), and social skills (p = 0.579; r = -0.063). Conclusion: There is a statistically significant opposite correlation between emotional intelligence on the self-awareness variable and the level of anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic among third-year medical students at Tanjungpura University. Keywords: emotional intelligence, anxiety, COVID-19 pandemic, medical students

Abstract

The increasing number of antibiotic resistance cases have to seek alternative treatments, including the petai plant (Parkia speciosa Hassk). Petai seeds primarily contain chemical compounds such as tannins, saponins, alkaloids, and flavonoids, which are known for their antibacterial properties. Objective: To determined the antibacterial activity of petai seed ethanol extract (P. speciosa Hassk) against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Salmonella typhi. Methods: This experiment used the Kirby-Bauer Method. Petai seeds were extracted with ethanol using maceration techniques, and the viscous extract was dissolved into concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. Screening paper soaked in the extract was placed on agar plates inoculated with the test bacteria, and the plates were incubated for 24 hours. The inhibition zones were measured with a caliper, and the data were analyzed statistically. Results: The study found that the ethanol extract of petai seeds exhibited moderate antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and weak antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhi. Conclusion: Increasing the concentration of the extract significantly enhanced its antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, indicating that petai seed ethanol extract could be a potential alternative treatment for bacterial infections. Keywords:  antibacterial, extract ethanol, Kirby-Bauer method, petai seed
