Abstract

Low academic achievement among students remains a challenge in biology education, particularly in understanding environmental concepts. This issue is exacerbated by the dominance of lecture-based instruction and the limited use of interactive digital media. This study aims to evaluate the effect of applying the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model integrated with the e-LKPD Quizizz platform on students’ learning outcomes in the topic of ecosystems. A quantitative approach was employed using a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group. The research involved two 10th-grade classes at SMA Negeri 3 Banjarmasin, selected through purposive sampling: class X-E as the experimental group and class X-B as the control group. The instruments used included affective observation sheets, psychomotor assessments, and cognitive learning achievement tests (pretest and posttest). Data were analyzed using SPSS version 30, involving N-Gain calculations, t-tests, homogeneity, and normality tests. The results showed that the experimental class achieved higher posttest scores than the control class, with N-Gain values in the moderate to high range. Improvements were also observed in affective and psychomotor learning outcomes. These findings demonstrate that the integration of the PBL approach with the e-LKPD Quizizz platform fosters active learning, enhances conceptual understanding, and improves cognitive, affective, and psychomotor outcomes in ecosystem learning.

Abstract

Microplastics are plastic particles smaller than 5 mm that originate from anthropogenic activities or environmental degradation. The estuarine waters of the Kenyamukan River in Sangatta, East Kutai Regency, are highly vulnerable to microplastic contamination due to intensive local activities such as fishing port operations, residential settlements, docks, and tourism sites. This study aimed to analyze the types and forms of microplastics found in several fish species inhabiting the estuarine area. The research employed a descriptive–analytical approach, with sampling conducted from March to May 2025. Fish organs analyzed included the gills and digestive system, which were extracted using NaCl solution, 10% KOH, and 30% Hâ‚‚Oâ‚‚, followed by observation under a stereo microscope. The results revealed the presence of microplastics in goatfish (Parupeneus indicus), spotted scat (Scatophagus sp.), rabbitfish (Siganus guttatus), and golden snapper (Lutjanus johnii). The identified microplastic types consisted of fibers (52%), fragments (27%), films (12%), and pellets (9%), with a total of 173 particles. The microplastic sizes ranged from 0.0012 mm to 0.1399 mm and exhibited various colors, including black, red, yellow, blue, green, transparent, orange, and pink. These findings indicate a high level of microplastic contamination in the Kenyamukan River estuary, posing potential threats to the aquatic ecosystem and the trophic food chain.

Abstract

Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is a highly contagious transboundary animal disease that significantly impacts the livestock sector. Batu City, one of the main cattle farming centers in East Java, has been affected by the FMD outbreak since 2022, yet local data on its prevalence and associated risk factors remain limited. This study aims to determine the prevalence of FMD in cattle in Batu City, identify key transmission risk factors, and evaluate the roles of both the government and farmers in controlling the outbreak. A descriptive quantitative method was employed using a cross-sectional approach, field interviews, and literature review. The data showed a total cattle population of 15,413, with 139 sick, 106 dead, 3,805 recovered, and 20 culled. The prevalence of FMD based on affected populations was 3.21%, and 0.90% based on the total cattle population. Major risk factors included communal housing systems, high animal mobility, inadequate biosecurity practices, uneven vaccination coverage, and low farmer awareness. The Batu City Government responded through mass vaccination, farmer education, livestock traffic control, and financial compensation for affected farmers. These findings highlight the importance of locally tailored disease control strategies to prevent further spread of FMD. The results are expected to support the development of effective and evidence-based policy interventions at the regional level.Kata kunci: keamanan hayati, penyakit mulut dan kuku, prevalensi, sapi ternak
