Abstract

This research aims to determine the symbolic meaning of the Popene'e traditional procession. This research method uses qualitative descriptive, with data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis is based on John Fiske's theoretical analysis. There are three levels of code to analyze the stages of the Popene traditional procession. First, the reality level shows the bride and groom in terms of clothing, appearance, expression, gestures, and daily life environment. Second, the representation level highlights the use of various tools and materials used at each stage of the Popene traditional procession as elements that have symbols. Third, the ideology level is formed from the habits of the Lauje people's perspective based on hereditary beliefs

Abstract

This article presents a practice-based analysis of the documentary film “KUMPUL” (A Glimpse of Palu Liquefaction, 2021), a participatory documentary capturing the collective memory of two survivor families from the Palu liquefaction disaster of September 28, 2018. The study examines how the film’s cinematic choices, uniform framing, rejection of disaster footage, absence of supporting music, and formal interview style simultaneously function as representational strategies and ethical stances toward survivors’ trauma. The researcher is also the filmmaker of the work under analysis; methodological transparency regarding this position, including systematic bias management protocols, is therefore foregrounded. The study employs a practice-based research framework combined with reflective textual analysis. Specifically, the analysis finds that uniform framing functions as a mechanism for equalising testimonial authority among subjects, while the absence of music transfers the entire dramaturgical burden to subjects’ oral narratives.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the persuasive communication process carried out by counselors in the drug addict rehabilitation program at the National Narcotics Board of Central Sulawesi Province (BNNP Central Sulawesi). This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, involving counselors and rehabilitation clients as informants. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The analysis of this study is based on Hafied Cangara’s Persuasive Communication Theory, which consists of the elements of communicator, message, media, communicant, and effects. The results of the study indicate that the persuasive communication process in the rehabilitation program is implemented in several stages, including screening, assessment, the formulation of therapy plans through individual counseling, outpatient rehabilitation, and post-rehabilitation.
