Abstract

Irrigation is a supporting infrastructure for water distribution in agriculture. Its role is vital, especially for agricultural areas which are not rain-fed, meaning that to irrigate agricultural areas the irrigation infrastructure is needed. It is important for all parties involved in agriculture and irrigation management institutions to find out and ensure the condition and performance of an irrigation network, whether its function is still as planned or even vice versa. So far, the performance evaluation of irrigation networks is still carried out conventionally and only reaches a form of Maintenance Operation report, not specific to its performance. So based on these conditions, this research will build an expert system that can be used to assess the performance of irrigation networks. The design begins by determining the logic of assessment that will be used as a way of thinking from the expert system that will be built. The indicators used by the system to assess irrigation performance are as stated in the regulation of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing No. 12 of 2015. After designing the expert system, the next step is to simulate it using the data available in the operation and maintenance reports of some irrigation networks that are used as samples. Then the simulation results are analyzed so that it can be known whether the system can work as planned or not. The system simulation results show a mismatch between the two indicators namely the performance of infrastructure and water services. While other assessment indicators have logical results.

Abstract

Expansive clay soil has high potential of swelling due to minerals content which bind water, therefore, soil improvement is required to stabilize the swelling behavior by add binder additive such as lime in deep soil mixing method (DSM). In this study, Finite Element model approach was performed with embankment provided on the top of expansive clay layer to provide bearing layer for road construction. As the deep soil mixing is applied on the subgrade (expansive clay layer), some model variation is performed such as diameter variation with 0.4m; 0.6m; 0.8m, depth variation with 5m; 6.5m; 8m and space variation 0.8 m;1.2m;1.6m; 2.4m. Area ratio parameter also used for ease understanding of deep soil mixing behavior with so many model variations provided. Analysis results shows that higher area ratio of deep soil mixing will provide lower displacement value either immediate displacement or consolidation displacement. Moreover, plot result of area ratio shows that area ratio of 0.4 provide effective value regarding consolidation displacement and duration.

Abstract

Lightweight mortar is specific type mortar that made with adding up a foaming agent. Lightweight mortar has a lot of pores or cavity that filled by air which causing reduction of the mortar’s weight. With its high porosity, the lightweight mortar has better heat insulation than common mortar. There are many pieces of research and applications of lightweight mortar in the last few years, and this review is focusing on lightweight mortar that made with a natural additive which has good high-temperature resistance. There are many additives can be used such as yeast and palm sugar. Yeast is the microorganism that can be used as a foaming agent because it can produce carbon dioxide (CO2) that create a lot of pores on the mortar through the glycolysis process. Palm sugar is disaccharide groups sugar which is sucrose that consists of glucose and fructose. Glucose can reduce gypsum consumption in mortar and ettringite formation. Besides, sugar contains lignin which can increase the bonding strength of mortar’s components. This study proofs that innovation of lightweight mortar with organic additive has a long-term potency with its durability on high temperature.

Abstract

In 2015 the Gunungrowo Reservoir was dredged to reduce sedimentation. After dredging, it is necessary to carry out sedimentation analysis to determine the reservoir life to be achieved. This analysis is intended to evaluate sediment deposition patterns that have occurred up to 2015 and calculate reservoir life that can be achieved after dredging in 2015. The reservoir life is analyzed based on how long the dead storage has been filled with sediment. Sediment entering the reservoir is calculated based on reservoir bathimetri and the suspended sediment entering reservoir. The result shows most of the sediment settles in the effective storage and  the reservoir life can reach up to 243 years after dredging.
