Abstract

Error analysis based on Newman's procedure helps students understand the types of mistakes they make, thereby enabling them to anticipate and minimize these errors. This research aims to identify the errors high school students make in solving linear programming story problems and the factors causing these errors based on Newman's procedure. The study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The subjects consist of four students selected based on the frequency of errors. Data was collected through tests and interviews, then analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results indicate that students make errors in understanding the problem, problem transformation, process skills, and final answer writing stages. The types of errors made by students based on mathematical objects include factual errors, conceptual errors, operational skill errors, and principle errors. The causes of these errors are attributed to rushing, physical conditions of students, neglecting steps deemed unimportant, and insufficient time provided to complete the tasks.

Abstract

Mental behavior is the activities that occur in a person's mind when solving mathematical problems. These activities are important to explore in problem solving, but exploration of activities is still rarely done by lecturers. This study aims to describe mental activities in solving mathematical problems of students who have high mathematical abilities and field independent (FI) and field dependent (FD) cognitive styles. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with the subjects of the study being mathematics education students at Syiah Kuala University in the 2023 academic year. Data collection techniques were carried out using problem-solving tests and interviews. Data analysis was carried out by data reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data validity was carried out by time triangulation. The results of the analysis obtained mental activities in problem solving displayed by students with high mathematical abilities and FI cognitive styles were more complete than students with FD cognitive styles in the activities of reading questions, understanding questions, linking information and explaining solutions, but the mental activities displayed by FI were the same as FD at the calculation and manipulation stages. Therefore, it is necessary to provide experience to FD students to

Abstract

The low level of mathematical understanding among slow learner students is an urgent issue that requires serious attention, as their intellectual limitations often cause difficulties in comprehending abstract mathematical concepts. If not addressed appropriately, this condition may lead to poor learning outcomes, limited problem-solving abilities, and an increasingly wider academic gap compared to their peers. This study aims to develop Pop-Up Book Geometric Transformation media integrated with Augmented Reality based on batik motifs to improve mathematical understanding and cultural knowledge of slow learner students. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) design using the ADDIE model. The research subjects were 32 ninth-grade students at SMPN 2 Batu. Data were collected using validation questionnaires, pre-tests, post-tests, and response questionnaires for both students and teachers. Data analysis techniques included assessing the media's validity, effectiveness, and practicality. The results showed a content validity score of 97% and a media validity score of 88%, both categorized as "very valid". The effectiveness results obtained an N-Gain score of 0.48 which falls into the "medium" category or meaning "moderately effective". The practicality of the media was assessed by teacher and student responses, yielding scores of 92.5% and 86.9%, respectively, both categorized as "very practical". Based on these findings, it is concluded that Pop-Up Book Geometric Transformation media integrated with Augmented Reality based on batik motifs is feasible to improve mathematical understanding and cultural knowledge of slow learner students.

Abstract

It is impossible to separate learning using the RME (Realistic Mathematics Education) approach from the use of learning media. However, the availability of RME-based e-modules in the learning process is still very limited, as teachers continue to rely on printed textbooks for instruction. Therefore, there is a need for more creative and innovative learning media. This study aims to develop and produce a valid and practical RME-based e-module for the topic of sequences and series. This type of research is classified as research and development (R&D) using the ADDIE model (analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation). The subjects of this study were Grade X students at MAN 4 Aceh Besar. Data collection instruments included questionnaires, interviews, validation sheets, and teacher and student response questionnaires. The research results describe the process and outcomes of developing the e-module, which include the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation.

Abstract

Mathematics is one of the subjects taught at various levels of school because this science has a close relationship and an important role in everyday life. Triangles are one of the important materials taught in schools. However, many students still experience difficulties in mastering this material. One way to overcome this problem is through Ethnomathematics-based learning. Ethnomathematics is a mathematics learning approach that integrates cultural elements and local wisdom of a region. This study aims to determine how the implementation of triangle material learning based on Acehnese batik culture at MTS Keutapang Dua. The method used is quantitative research with a quasi-experimental type. The research design applied is a posttest-only control design. The experimental class received learning about triangles integrated with Acehnese batik motifs, while the control class received conventional learning. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of Acehnese batik culture-based learning has a positive impact on student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study evaluates the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in mathematics education through a systematic literature review. Thirty studies published between 2020 and 2026 were analyzed to identify types of AI used, educational contexts, mathematical concepts addressed, research methods, as well as student learning outcomes and teacher practices. Results indicate that AI including intelligent tutoring systems, adaptive learning platforms, AI chatbots, generative visualization tools, and learning analytics dashboards enhances student performance, engagement, and perception in mathematics. The studies also highlight the importance of teacher readiness, digital literacy, and infrastructure support for effective AI integration. Limitations such as small sample sizes and short intervention durations suggest areas for future research. These findings provide comprehensive insights into the role of AI in mathematics education and practical implications for pedagogy and research.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities from the perspective of Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) in Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based learning. The study employed a descriptive quantitative approach involving 36 eighth-grade students. Data were collected through an SRL questionnaire and a mathematical problem-solving test, then analyzed using descriptive statistics, specifically means and percentages. The results show that 27.8% of students have high SRL, 50.0% have moderate SRL, and 22.2% have low SRL. The average mathematical problem-solving ability in the high SRL category was 85.40, in the moderate category 74.20, and in the low category 61.50. The highest indicator was in the ability to understand problems, while the lowest was in checking the results of problem-solving. The research results show that students with high SRL have better mathematical problem-solving skills than students with moderate and low SRL. Therefore, strengthening SRL needs to be a priority in the implementation of AI-based learning to improve students’ mathematical problem-solving skills.

Abstract

Adversity Quotient (AQ) is widely theorized to predict student engagement in challenging mathematics learning, yet the assumption that this stable psychological trait manifests directly in observable classroom behavior has rarely been tested with direct observational data, particularly within Indonesian madrasah aliyah populations. This study aimed to (1) profile the AQ of Grade X students at a state Islamic senior high school along Stoltz's three categories and four CO₂RE dimensions, and (2) examine whether AQ category is reflected in observable activity during Problem-Based Learning (PBL). A descriptive quantitative design was applied to 20 purposively selected students. Data were collected via an adapted Adversity Response Profile (21 items; Gregory content validity = 0.952; Cronbach's α = 0.90) and a 17-indicator observation sheet covering the five PBL syntactic phases (1–5 scale). Three findings emerged. First, the AQ distribution was dominated by low- and moderate-resilience profiles (50% Quitters, 45% Campers, 5% Climber), converging strikingly with the larger ARP-ML survey of (Gradini & Noviani, 2025) and indicating a possibly structural pattern of low resilience among Indonesian mathematics learners. Second, the CO₂RE dimensions, although uniformly classified as High to Very High, were unevenly develop. Control and Reach were strongest (81.25%), while Origin and Ownership lagged (75.38%), with the weakest single item reflecting anxiety about group-leadership responsibility. Third, AQ category was essentially uncorrelated with observable PBL activity (r = 0.156). A Quitter recorded the second-highest activity score, while the only Climber recorded below-average activity. This trait-process dissociation suggests that AQ operates over cumulative learning timescales rather than within single sessions, and that group-based PBL may function as social scaffolding that compensates for individual trait limitations. The study contributes the first direct observational test of the AQ-PBL behavioral linkage in an Indonesian madrasah context and identifies Origin and Ownership as a priority pedagogical target.
