Abstract

With the increasing complexity of the process industry, having excellent maintenance management is essential for manufacturing industries. Various parts that interact and interdependent with each other make a well-planned maintenance strategy is one of the major challenges facing by industry. The whole system could be interrupted just simply because of the failure of a component. Therefore, a review of a maintenance strategy must be done from a system perspective. It is suggested that the optimal preventive maintenance time interval is not only determined by the lowest maintenance cost of each machine but also its impact on the whole system. Two main indicators that can accommodate the system perspective are reliability and revenue. A large number of machines and the array of machines can be synthesized in the reliability indicator. Moreover, the creation of maximum revenue is always the main goal for a business. The best maintenance strategy will be determined from the revenue obtained by a process industry. The process industry discussed in this study is a flour mill which is very well known in Surabaya. This study applied a hybrid simulation to solve this problem. Monte Carlo simulation was used to observe the machine individually and the results are reviewed using the application of System Dynamics. Three improvement scenarios were proposed in this simulation study. Scenario 2 was chosen as the best scenario because it was able to generate the highest revenue at the end of the period. Scenario 2 recommends setting the preventive maintenance time interval considering resource availability.

Abstract

In the manufacturing industry, the role of quality control or laboratory parts is very important to ensure the quality of raw materials or finished products by testing. Smooth testing carried out by the QC/Lab section will have an impact on the smooth production process. PT. Bando Indonesia is one of the automotive manufacturing industries that is consistent with quality. However, based on April-June 2018 data based on SQCDMP data, it was found that productivity factors were quite low as indicated by the presence of remaining hardness and specific gravity compound test results reaching 36.44% at the end of each shift. By carrying out corrective actions through the 8 step Quality Control Circle (QCC) and using seven tools as an analytical tool, the results obtained are significant, namely the reduction in the remaining samples of compound testing by only 21.97% and impact on cost, morality, and productivity.

Abstract

In 2019, the number of conventional vehicles in Indonesia reached 133,617,012 units, dominated by motorcycles of 112,771,136 units and passenger cars of 15,592,419 units. The high number of conventional motorcycle users can increase the number of pollutants and combustion emissions in the environment. This condition has encouraged the transition to a sustainable transport system that will be needed for decades to come, especially for the electric motorcycle to resolve the issue. This research aims to predict and estimate the market share of electric motorcycles by considering life cycle cost per kilometer. System dynamics simulations are developed to model the adoption-diffusion of electric motorcycles in Indonesia. This model has four main modules: an electric motorcycle module, a conventional motorcycle module, an economy module, and a consumer market module. This model shows a positive trend of EM market share from 2021-2030, with the market share value of EM is 0,411 in 2030. The development of retail price subsidy and electricity price scenarios is also carried out to determine the right policies to accelerate the adoption-diffusion process. Based on the scenario, the provision of retail price subsidy and a decrease in electricity price can increase the value of the EM Market Share.

Abstract

Inventory is one of many factors of the business operation that need to be controlled by industries in order to improve efficiency, enhance productivity, and decrease the holding cost. The holding cost of inventories in supply chain contribute to 20% - 40% of the product value. It can be controlled by applying appropriate inventory model, such as EPQ/Economic Production Quantity and EOQ/Economic Order Quantity. EPQ is an inventory model that used to determine the optimum production lot size with balanced the production setup cost and holding cost. Even the classic EPQ has applied widely in industries, the assumption used by this model differed between the researchers whether it is continuous or discrete demand, because the multi delivery or discrete demand is mostly used by industries. Even so, there are industries that used both continuous and discrete demand simultaneously. Based on previous research, there was an advanced EPQ model that synchronizing both assumptions simultaneously, but it still addressed single item problem. Since almost the industries produced multi item, this model has lack of applicability. Therefore, this research proposed a multi item EPQ Model that synchronizing continuous and discrete demand simultaneously. The solution procedure that used in this proposed model are classical calculus method/differential calculus and simultaneous approach. A numerical example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach based on the data from the literature.

Abstract

Distribution process at PT XYZ is identical to one of the variants of Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) which there are several vehicles with different capacities and operation cost, called as Heterogeneous Fleet Vehicle Routing Problem (HFVRP). There are two kinds of vehicle that have been used, namely, vehicle As and vehicle Bs. Vehicle As has the higher operation cost than vehicle Bs. Currently, the company implements policies where vehicle Bs is used if all vehicle As have been used. This policy may lead the distribution cost is so expensive and its equal with the operation cost of vehicle As that also high. Routing aims to combine the use of available vehicles to generate minimal distribution costs in servicing the customers. This research uses mathematical model according to the description of the distribution system in the company. The model is verified and tested using the optimization software. Then the constraints of the verifiable mathematical model are used as the basis for developing Insertion Heuristic (IH) algorithm. Comparison of model solutions with developed algorithm solutions showed a difference of 11.6%. This implies that the algorithm generated solution is quite good as one of the heuristic approaches that result in optimal local solutions. Implementation of IH algorithm provides cost savings of 5.97% towards the actual distribution system in the company.

Abstract

Multi-objective optimization in manufacturing can effectively be solved using Multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques. This paper presents the implementation methodology of the Fuzzy-MOORA hybrid technique for multi-objective optimization in laser machining of stainless-steel gears. Further, simultaneous optimization of gear quality and process productivity have been reported. Four important laser parameters, i.e., laser power, cutting speed, focal position, and gas pressure, have varied during twenty-nine experiments to machine gears by a laser process. The quality of miniature gear was measured in terms of average surface roughness, mean roughness depth, and dimensional deviation. The productivity of the laser machining process was estimated via material removal rate. An optimum set of laser machining parameters obtained after Fuzzy-MOORA optimization is laser power 2000 W, cutting speed 3 m/min, focal position -2.5 mm, and gas pressure 16 bar. This work encourages researchers and scholars to make further attempts using such MCDM techniques to develop intelligent processes in industrial and manufacturing engineering.

Abstract

There are more than three million people in Indonesia who have speech disorders. Speech disorders are also experienced by people with intellectual disabilities, who need speech therapy to practice their expressive speech skills. However, the current types of speech therapy, in general, are not easily accessible and require considerable cost. The purpose of this study, therefore, is to provide a speech therapy tool that can be accessed easily and requires low cost. This research designs a mobile application as a speech therapy tool for teenagers with mild intellectual disability. The design process began with the identification of user needs, followed by the design of application concepts using a design workshop. The best concept was developed into a prototype, which was then evaluated through a usability testing, using effectiveness, efficiency, learnability, memorability, and accessibility as the evaluation criteria. Based on the evaluation, the effectiveness of the application is 82.2% and its efficiency is 78.9%. Meanwhile, the learnability and memorability of the application consecutively score 80% and 94.4%. These results show that the application has a good level of accessibility. Evaluation was also conducted using the System Usability Scale (SUS) questionnaire, which resulted in a total score of 74 (acceptable). In addition, interviews were conducted to identify remaining flaws that were subsequently used as a basis for design improvement of the application.
