Abstract

Lean manufacturing has been widely applied in the industry as an effort to utilize resources efficientlyand systematically. The purpose of this study is to analyze waste time activities and to proposedminimize the time so it will increase the effectiveness of production sucralfate suspension at PT. X.The concept used in this research is lean manufacturing with a value stream mapping (VSM) approach.This method will make it easier to identify waste time activities through current state mapping, todetermine improvement points and to propose improvements by describing the value stream mapping.The research was carried out by calculating and mapping each step of the production of sucralfatesuspension. The total production time needed for the production of one batch of sucralfate suspensionis 5 hours 16 minutes with a value added activity time about 96%, and a necessary non value addedactivity time about 4%. The proposed improvement to minimize waste time is by carrying outproductions activities in parallel. Based on the proposed improvement, the total production time ofsucralfate syrup that can be reduced is 31 minutes.Keywords: Waste Time, Value Stream Mapping.

Abstract

The Pangandaran people process honje flowers into fresh drinks that are consumed for health. Theforest honje leaf extract provides antidiabetic activity at a dose of 0.39 mg/g BW can reduce bloodglucose levels by 36.16% has been reported. Limited scientific information from honje hutan flowers,it is necessary on its activity as an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor and study its chemical content. Theextraction process was macerated in 70% ethanol for 24 hours and the fractionation process wascarried out by liquid-liquid extraction method with n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water as solvents.Testing the activity of alpha-glucosidase inhibitors colorimetrically using the chromogenic substratep-nitrophenyl α-D-glucopyranoside, alpha-glucosidase enzymes derived from Saccharomycescerevisiae, measurement of absorption at a maximum wavelength of 401.3 nm and acarbose usedas a comparison drug alpha-glucosidase inhibitors. The results showed that the forest honje flowerscontain flavonoids, polyphenols, tannins, quinones, monoterpenoids, and sesquiterpenoids. IC50 valuesfor 70% ethanol extract, n-hexane, ethyl acetate, water and acarbose fractions were 136.79, 307.18,277.12, 66.18, and 14.63 g/mL respectively. The water fraction gave the best inhibitory activity againstalpha-glucosidase with an IC50 value of 66.18 g/mL.Keywords: Etlingera hemisphaerica (Blume) R.M.Sm, honje hutan flowers, alpha-glucosidaseinhibitor.

Abstract

Moringa leaf (Moringa oleivera L) is a plant that has benefits as a natural medicinal ingredient. Benefits of Moringa leaves as anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antihypertensive, anticholesterol and antidiabetic. Phytochemical test Moringa leaves contain flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, phenols and steroids. Sub-chronic toxicity test was conducted to determine the negative impact of Moringa leaves on the body if consumed for a certain period of time. The test animals used were 20 male rats with 5 doses of treatment. Parameters observed were body weight (g), relative weight of liver (%), macroscopic changes and liver histopathology. The data were analyzed by One Way Anova and continued with the Post Hoc LSD test. The results of this study showed changes in body weight of rats, changes in the relative weight of the liver, macroscopic changes in the liver in the form of consistency and surface of the liver and histopathological changes in the liver in the form of necrosis with a total liver damage of 46% and the number of normal cells by 54%. Keywords: Moringa Leaf, Subchronic Toxicity, Liver Histopathology.

Abstract

Malaria is one of the health problems in the world and in Indonesia. This disease is caused by theprotozoan parasite, the genus Plasmodium. Plasmodium falciparum is the most important parasiticdisease with high morbidity and mortality in the world and tropical countries such as Indonesia inparticular. This study aims to determine the activity of sampare leaf extract in inhibiting the growth ofthe FCR-3 strain of the P. falciparum parasite which causes malaria. Sampare leaves were extracted bymaceration method using 70% ethanol. Extract the results extraction were tested against P. falciparumby in vitro method. 32,67% Yield extract resulted from the extraction process. Phytochemical screeningshows the presence of alkaloid compounds, flavonoids, quinones, saponins, and tannins. The ethanolextract of sampare leaves had IC50 antimalarial activity of 0,125 μg/mL and was categorized very well.Keywords: Antimalarial, Glochidion sp var. Biak, IC50, Plasmodium falciparum.

Abstract

Shogaol and gingerol, compounds in ginger, can act as antiemetic. Ginger extract was formulatedby patch transdermal to increase the effectiveness of therapy and to minimize the side effects. Inthis study, maceration with ethanol 96% was used as extraction method and phytochemical screeningwas carried out to the extract to identfy the exctracted compounds. The formulation of transdermalpatch used matrix method with ginger extract concentrations of 0,5 gr (F1), 1 gr (F2), and 1,5 gr (F3).Evaluation of patch was carried out by organoleptic test, patch weight, thickness, tensile strength,elongation at break, modulus young, moisturizer test, and folding endurance. Effectiveness test usedwistar mice by observed the pica response and a decreasing in kaolin consumption. The yield of theextract obtained was 6,46% and it contained essential oils, flavonoids, steroids, and polyphenols. Thebest patch characteristics of the concentration was F3 with a patch weight of 0,39 gr, thickness 0,23mm, tensile strength 1,32 N/mm2, elongation at break 129,52%, young's modulus 0,96 mPa, humidity1,32%, and folding endurance >200 times. F3 was also the most effective formulation with 6%response of pica and 93,11% of decreasing in kaolin consumption observed in day 9. In conclusion, F3can reduce nausea and vomiting.

Abstract

Nanotechnology has rapidly grown in various research fields to treat oxidative stress in diabetes,including medicine and phytomedicine. Previous research showed that Acalypha hispida has strongantioxidant activity in vitro and anti-hyperglycemic activity in vivo. However, the size reductionin the crude extract should be applied to decrease the doses and increase the efficacy. The researchobjective was to evaluate the nano-extract of A. hispida leaves on Cu,Zn-SOD antioxidant content inthe pancreas of diabetic rats. The analysis of Cu,Zn-SOD antioxidant content was carried out usingimmunohistochemistry. Cu,Zn-SOD content of pancreas in diabetic rats (DMC) was significantlylower than in normal rats (NLC). The antioxidant content of Cu,Zn-SOD in MET, CAH, NAH3, andNAH6 groups was significantly higher than in the DMC group of the pancreas of diabetic rats. Nanoextractof A. hispida showed a better effect in increasing Cu,Zn-SOD antioxidant content than crudeextract. The result concluded that nano-extract of A. hispida leaves increased Cu,Zn-SOD antioxidantcontent in the pancreas of diabetic rats.

Abstract

Kasturi (Mangifera casturi Kosterm.) is a typical plant of South Kalimantan, and Kersen (Muntingiacalabura L) contains flavonoids and steroids was empirically used for aphrodisiac. However, nopreclinical trials using that extracts. This research to test the aphrodisiac activity to optimal dose isobtained and the possibility of a synergistic or toxic effect if the two extracts are combined. Thestudy aimed to determine of secondary metabolites and the aphrodisiac effect of extracts. The testused a completely randomized design into 8 groups. Parameters measured were frequency approach(introduction), riding (climbing), and mating (coitus). The results showed the Kasturi have of flavonoid,Steroid, and Phenol. Kersen extract have contained saponins, phenol, flavonoid, steroid. Kersen extract200 mg/kg BW dose shows the highest rather than the others. The combination of kersen and kasturiextracts of 100 mg/kgBW and 200 mg/kg BW doses did not show better effect when compared to asingle dose. It can be concluded that the aphrodisiac activity in the combination of kersen and kasturiextracts tends not synergis.

Abstract

Degenerative diseases occurred due to several risk factors that are directly related to inflammationwhich affected several diseases such as coronary heart disease (CHD) and diabetes. One of theinflammatory causative agents is leukotrienes produced by the lipoxygenase enzyme (LOX) so thatit takes anti-inflammatory drugs made from herbal plants. Red betel leaf (Piper crocatum) potentiallyinhibited the lipoxygenase enzyme because it contains potential phytochemical compounds suchas alkaloids, flavonoids, eugenol, saponins, and tannins. This research aimed to test the inhibitionof active compounds from extract and fractions of red betel leaves that have the best inhibition forlipoxygenase enzymes causing malondialdehyde formed through molecular docking simulations. Thisresearch used lipoxygenase enzyme as receptor (PRB code: 4NRE), C8E as natural ligand and activecompound from extract and fractions of red betel leaves as a ligand. The highest inhibition regarded toNandrolone phenylpropionate and Sofalcone ligand with -10.4 kcal/mol and -9.1 kcal/mol of affinityenergy. Amino acid residues that played a role in ligand and receptor interaction were HIS373 andHIS378. The receptor structure with the best ligands was declared stable based on molecular dynamicssimulations.

Abstract

Bitter leaf, Vernonia amygdalina (VA), is used in various alternative medicine in several countries,including Indonesia. This study aims to evaluate the antioxidant activity of VA leaves by three differentin vitro methods. The antioxidant activity was evaluated by radical scavenging of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), and cupric reducing antioxidantcapacity (CUPRAC). The antioxidant capacity by FRAP and CUPRAC methods were expressed asmg of quercetin equivalents (QE) per g extract (mgQE/g) and mg of ascorbic acid equivalents (AAE)per g extract (mgAAE/g), respectively. All methods were measured by UV-Visible spectrophotometryat maximum wavelength. The results exhibited that VA leaves ethanolic extract contains flavonoidphenolic.The VA leaves ethanolic extract has an antioxidant activity by scavenging the DPPH methodwith the half inhibition concentration (IC50) was 8,22 μg/mL. The antioxidant capacity of VA leavesethanolic extract by FRAP and CUPRAC methods was 21,03 mgQE/g and 160,64 mgAAE/g extract,respectively. The VA leaves ethanolic extract has a powerful antioxidant potency which might correlateto the flavonoid-phenolic content in the extract.

Abstract

Oxcarbazepine (OXC) was used as first line therapy or additional therapy for treatment of partialand secondary of seizures. The penetration of OXC into nasal mucosa can be enhanced by formingliposome. This research has the aim to prepare and characterize iposome laoding OXC. The OXCliposome formula was composed by using soya lechitin and cholesterol with various amount usingthin film hydration method. Characterization by determining the encapsulation efficiency (%EE), pH,viscosity, particle size, polydispersity of index, zeta potential, and in vitro release. The liposome ofOXC was also analyzed for its stability based on heating-coling cycle method. The proportion of bestformula was obtained at the amount of cholesterol of 42,11 mg yield %EE of 92,63%, pH of 8,47,viscosity of 1,10 cP, and decreased amount of OXC in stability test of 0,34%. The results of particlediameter were 579 nm, polydispersity index (PDI) of 0,34, and zeta potential of -99,38 mV. The in vitrorelease of the liposome of OXC was studied and compared with OXC. The result of in vitro releaseliposome OXC (F2) ahowed increase (62,26%) than (41,97%).
