Abstract

The incorrect understanding of the verse Kun Fayaku>nu is closely related to theological issues. Al-Razi a mufassir who prioritizes ilm kala>m, uses the method of interpretation by mentioning the thoughts of Mu’tazilah, Karamiyah, and other deviant groups, then criticizing them based on the school of ahlu al-sunnah wa al-jama>’ah. He interpreted where the purpose of the verse is the speed of the breakdown of God’s power and His will in creating creatures or carrying out something new without anyone being able to oppose Him. Al-Razi interpreted that the command to what did not yet exist was not true, because what did not yet exist was invalid as something. While Allah’s words are qadi>m, while Allah’s chanting with the word Kun is muh}dats, then the original will is passed on to the will which depends on His commands with Kun’s words.

Abstract

Sekulerisme banyak dipahami sebagai ideologi yang memisahkan agama dari dunia. Dalam peradaban Barat, sekulerisme menjadi pandangan hidup dan ruh bagi dinamikanya, khususnya ketika Gereja mulai menunjukkan problematika teologisnya. Hal itu karena manusia modern percaya, bahwa dalam sekulerisme terdapat kesesuaian dengan watak zaman yang selalu berubah, dan juga kebebasan yang menjamin kemajuan serta perkembangan kehidupan. Doktrin yang pada awalnya lahir dan berkembang di Barat ini, tanpa disadari kini telah masuk ke dalam hampir seluruh ranah kehidupan masyarakat umat Islam. Agama yang pada dasarnya digunakan untuk membimbing manusia kepada kebaikan, kini dimarginalkan hanya dalam ranah agama saja, sehingga kehidupan sosial tidak lagi bersandar dan bergantung pada nilai-nilai agama. Hal ini menyebabkan etika, ilmu, moral, nilai, dan bahkan kebenaran hanya berdasarkan pertimbangan manusia, atau berdasarkan kesepakatan bersama tanpa melibatkan peran wahyu. Sehingga, tidak lagi mementingkan keberadaan Tuhan, dalam artian tidak ada lagi campur tangan Tuhan di dalamnya. Maka secara praktis sudah anti Tuhan, atau disebut juga dengan practical atheism. Mengingat dampak yang timbul dari doktrin sekulerisme ini sangat berbahaya bagi kehidupan masyarakat, dan demi terbentuknya suatu tatanan masyarakat yang Islami, maka dalam makalah singkat ini akan dipaparkan problem-problem yang terkandung dalam doktrin sekulerisme, beserta dampak-dampak yang timbul dari penerapan doktrin ini. Dalam hal ini, penulis berusaha untuk menganalisa pemikiran Harvey Cox, serta membandingkannya dengan konsep-konsep yang ada dalam Islam.

Abstract

In order to uncover the existence of this universe, human will find two man theories about how God created this universe: Theory of Emanation and Theory of Creation. In the view of Theory of Emanation, this universe was transmitted from the Transcendent Being trough a hierarchical levels; while Theory of Creation taught that the beginning of universe as the creation of The One Almighty God. It is interesting that every single opinion have their argumentation supported by number of famous philosopher, such as Ibn Sina who supported Theory of Emanation, and Fakhruddin al-Razi who refuted that idea and declared that Theory of Creation is more legitimate. Ibn Sina’s theory evidently was an improvement from the theory of movement owned by Aristotle. According to this theory, every entity has potential and action aspect. Movement is the process from the potential to the action, and its process can take place because of supporting cause. These causes led finally to the Prime Cause defined as unmoved mover. In the perspective of Ibn Sina, this ‘Prime Cause’ is God that Wajib al-Wujud. Wajib al-Wujud led later to the main argument of Ibn Sina about the existence of God. Al-Razi did not agree with Ibn Sina’s theory. From here, al-Razi launched his criticism against Ibn Sina’s thought about the Theory of Emanation. This paper will discuss further about al-Razi’s critique toward Ibnu Sina’s concept of God which focusced on the theory of movement and singularity.

Abstract

To understand the meaning of the content of the holy Qur’an, it takes a lot of disciplines, such as; ‘Ilm’ Ira>b al-Qur’a>n, ‘Ilm Awqa>t al-Nuzu>l,’ Ilm Asba>b al-Nuzu>l, ‘Ilm Ghari>b al-Qur’a>n, and so on. ‘Ilm Asba>b al-Nuzu>l is the most urgent to be studied, because knowing the causes of the decline of a verse (nas}), will greatly assist the understanding and interpretation of the intent of the verse. In addition, Moslem scholars also have very intense attention to this kind of science. In history, there are at least dozens of their books which contain titles with the word Asba>b al-Nuzu>l and the titles are not limited only to the classical Moslem scholars. Contemporary Moslem scholars such as; Abd al-Fattah al-Qadi, Muqbil al-Wadi’i, Ghazi Inayah, Hammad Abd al-Khaliq Hulwah, and so on, also adds richness of development of ‘ Ilm Asba>b al-Nuzu>l. For this reason, this paper will explore the extent of the urgency of ‘Ilm Asba>b al-Nuzu>l by citing some of the opinions of Moslem scholars such as; Imam Ibn al-’id Daqiq, Imam Ibn Taymiyah, Imam al-Suyuti, Imam al-Zarkasyi, Shaykh Abu al-Fath al-Qushayri, and Sheikh Muhammad al-Zarqani. From their explanation, it was found that ‘Ilm Asba>b al-Nuzu>l plays a key role in explaining the meaning of the verse, or eliminating a number of problems related to the study of the Qur’an, especially in vulnerable interpretation sparking different thought or opinion.

Abstract

The concept of science is related to epistemology, because epistemology is the theory of science. The problem in this modern century, discussion on epistemology suggests a dividing line between science and religion. All science must be empirical in nature, in which brings human understanding into nihilism, relativism and materialism, which is a milestone in the emergence of seculerism and other issues. Then, what is science according to Islam? What are the basic and primacy of it? How does Islam look at sources of right science? How the way of reaching it? Is there any classification of science in Islam? This paper will attempt to answer and discuss these questions clearly and pithily in Fakhr al-Din al-Razi’s perspective. In this regard, al-Razi sees that science is an understanding which delivered on the wisdom of anything, no doubt that science on ru>h}, further delivering on perfect happinest. In addition, in his book al-Tafsīr al-Kabīr, Fakhr al-Din al-Razi explains that science has a semblance of meaning with 30 other terms i.e. al-Idrāk, al-Syu'ūr, al-Tas}awwur, al-H}ifz}, al-Tadzakkur, al-Dzikr, al-Ma'rifah, al-Fahm, al-Fiqh, al-'Aql, al-Dirāyah, al-H}ikmah, 'ain al-Yaqīn, al-Dzihn, al-Fikr, al-H}adi>ts, al-Dzakā', al-Fat}a>nah, al-Khāt}ir, al-Z}an, al-Tanbīh, al-Khayāl, al-Badīhah, al-Auliyyāt, al-Ruwayyah, al-Kiyāsah, al-Khibrah, al-Ra'yu, al-Firāsah, and al-Bayyinah. From this brief exposure, in tries to discuss the uniqueness of Fakhr al-Din al-Razi thought about science concept using two approaches, philosophy and tafsir, to make it more interesting topic.

Abstract

Kesetaraan gender merupakan salah satu agenda utama gerakan feminisme. Sejak masuknya wacana gender ke dalam Islam, beberapa pemikir muslim ikut terpengaruh isu tersebut, dan hendak memaksakan konsep kesetaraan gender ke dalam ajaran Islam. Mereka berpandangan bahwa Islam yang datang pada masa Nabi itu memiliki kesamaan dengan konsep kesetaraan yang dibawa feminisme. Bahkan, aturan yang berlandaskan keadilan yang dibawa Islam itu, mengandung semangat kesetaraan. Akhirnya banyak dari teks-teks hukum dan ayat-ayat yang telah mengatur hubungan antara pria dan wanita dalam Islam dikaji ulang, dibongkar, dan diubah agar sesuai dengan perspektif kesetaraan gender. Permasalahannya, konsep kesetaraan banyak yang tidak sejalan bahkan bertentangan dengan konsep keadilan. Pertama, titik tekannya. Yang menjadi titik tekan dalam kesetaraan gender adalah persamaan kuantitas yang harus diperoleh, sehingga mengabaikan perbedaan antar laki-laki dan perempuan. Sementara dalam keadilan terpenuhinya kebutuhan tiap individu yang sesuai dengan karakteristik dan kapasitas masing-masing. Kedua, orientasinya. Kesetaraan berupaya meruntuhkan budaya patriarkat dan menuntut persamaan dan kebebasan. Sementara keadilan berusaha menyeimbangkan budaya patriarkat dan matriarkat sehingga laki-laki dan perempuan dapat menjalankan perannya secara harmonis sebagai khalifah dengan sangat baik. Ketiga, pandangan terhadap perempuan. Feminisme memandang laki-laki dan perempuan merupakan dua entitas yang berbeda. Sementara Islam memandang laki-laki dan perempuan adalah kesatuan yang berpasangan. Atas dasar itulah, maka konsep kesetaraan tidak dapat disamakan dengan keadilan.

Abstract

Sunna is one of Islamic legislation sources, more precisely it is positioned on the second position as a source of law. It’s also served as explanatory of the verses of the Qur’an. With this position, the existence of sunnah is very important in Islam. Unfortunately the movement to reject the truth of sunnah (ingkar sunnah) never fade. One figure who aggressively towards reconstruction concept of sunnah is Muhammad Syahrur. He proposed the concept of reading the text in accordance with the existence of the times, or also called by a contemporary readings text model. The problem is this concept results confusion in understanding religious texts. So if explored more deeply, the proposed concept by Syahrur is not appropriate when applied to understanding Islamic scientific literatures. This simple writing is trying to reveal in details of the confusion in Syahrur thought. The discussion will cite the arguments that are used by Syahrur in order to support the concept. The author tried to explain that Syahrur understanding toward arguments is not appropriate. Besides, the author also cites some of the opinions of scholars who criticize the concept of Syahrur. So that at the end of the discussion the confusion and discrepancy reading of the concept proposed by Syahrur will be revealed clearly.

Abstract

This article assumes most contemporary intellectuals who considered that the scholars of hadith do not concentrate to criticism of “matan” of hadith. According to them, the classic hadith scholars portray not much sense in reviewing and critiquing the prophetic traditions. This criticism is inherited and developed by some reviewers of prophetic tradition in the West. Some may think that the scholars did not use a lot of sense in criticizing the hadith. In fact, any study of any text can not be done without using the sense. But, in studying the hadith texts, the scholars of hadith did not rely on the opinions of the sense only, but they put the sense into its position proportionally. Related to this, the criticism methodology of “sanad” is part of the criticism of “matan” that can not be separated, because of the efforts of the scholars in reviewing “sanad” is to prove the authenticity and validity of “matan”. The validity of a hadith should be assessed through a study of the “sanad” and “matan” once. To judge a hadith by the sense only can not be accepted. So, to prove the truth of any information is not enough just by assumption or opinion of the sense itself. Proving the accuracy of “riwayat” empirically has been done by the previous hadith scholars, and it is their main activity to prove the truth of narration of hadith they heard and understood by their sense.

Abstract

Majority of Orientalists who focuses on Qur’anic Studies dominates a number of critical views ‎concerning the originality of al-Qur’an. Those ideas are: the disarrangement of Qur’anic verses; ‎even they believe in that verses are in confusion, the absence of interrelation between topics within ‎it, the lack of scientific writing structure, and some of them argue that al-Qur’an is precisely a ‎consolidation between words of Muhammad and not a divine revelation. Even though those ideas ‎are not true. If al-Qur’an is analyzed carefully utilizing scientific tools such as Arabic, the ‎privileges (I’jāz) of al-Qur’an will be founded in many of its sides. One of them is language ‎privileges which is also familiar as I’jāz lughawy. Badiuzzaman Said Nursi, a reformer Muslim ‎scholar in his age revealed the beauty, harmony, and privileges of language in al-Qur’an. This ‎paper will discuss Nursi’s thought about I’jāz Lughawiy in al-Qur’an including four main elements, those are balāghah and faṣāḥaḥ, structure of text and grammar, the secret of muqāṭa’ah, altogether ‎with the word repetitions in al-Qur’an.‎

Abstract

Religious plurality is a natural phenomenon that occurs in the reality of life. In the midst of the diversity of ideological differences and truth claim, indeed every believer is required to tolerate all sorts of concepts conceived by the ideology and truth claim. It is obvioulys become a logical implication because each ideology and truth will lead followers too surely believe all the religion dogma; including claim of salvation. However, in view of liberalism, tolerance alone is not enough. Religious Pluralism needs to be propagated as a solution to religious harmony. In the other words, Religious Tolerance in the view of Liberal is Religious Pluralism. Religious Pluralism, as part of Western postmodern discourses attempt to relativize truth claims of religions, so there is no truth can be acknowledged. Islam was included. This concept indeed is in contradiction to the concept of tolerance in slam that acknowledges religious plurality in society without coercing to believe religions truth claim. Islam is conceptually recognized Plurality, but firmly reject Pluralism.
