Abstract

-ABSTRACT- Personal branding of political actors is a step to shape people’s perception of aspects, including personality, ability, skills to integrity. The use of social media by political actors asaa medium of political communication is one of the steps in the formation of personal branding of legislative candidates. This study aims to analyze Fadli Zon’s personal branding as a legislative candidate on @fadlizon personal twitter account during the campaign period of 28th September 2018 – 13rd April 2019. This researchUuses qualitative descriptive research method and analyzed using three main dimensions of personal branding shaper. The result of this study was found 6 tweets without re-tweet found in the period 28th September 2018 – 13rd April 2019. During the campaign, Fadli Zon showed that he was critical, technologically responsive, credible, and populist legislative candidate. Abstract

Personal branding is explained as a communication strategy about a person's characteristics that can lead people to sympathize or support them. Personal branding can be found on social media, especially TikTok. Jharna Bhagwani is a young girl of Indian-Indonesian blood who is pouring her hobby into makeup. The results of the makeup content are dominantly containing tips, tricks, point of view (stories/roles), and daily makeup. This study aims to determine the formation of Jharna Bhagwani's personal branding as a beauty influencer through TikTok. This research is a descriptive qualitative research on personal branding theory by Montoya, namely the 8 laws of personal branding and semiotic analysis by Peirce. The results of this study that Jharna is a beauty influencer who displays the implied meaning of most of her makeup videos. Her makeup content has also succeeded in bringing her achievements, "Best of Fashion & Beauty" at TikTok Award Indonesia 2020. Keywords: personal branding, Jharna Bhagwani, beauty influencer, TikTok

Abstract

In mid-2020, a lively Papuan Lives Matter campaign appeared on social media Twitter. The Papuan Lives Matter campaign has emerged after a Black Lives Matter campaign demanded justice for George Floyd's death due to violent officers. The Papuan Lives Matter campaign is a campaign adopted by Black Lives Matter to voice racism experienced by Papuans. During this time, Papua was seen as experiencing racism as it did to black people in the United States. Papuan Lives Matter comes as a form of solidarity and a campaign against racism against Papuans. Papuan Lives Matter has also become widely discussed on social media and mass media. Many mass media outlets preach Papuan Lives Matter with different points of view, including in Tempo.co and Antaranews.com. This study used Zhongdang Pan &Gerald M. Kosicki's framing analysis of Tempo.co and Antaranews.com news to look at the construction of Tempo.co reality and Antaranews.com on Papuan Lives Matter. Abstract

The issue of repatriation of ex-ISIS Indonesian citizens have become controversial in Indonesia. This research conducted to find out how the issue was framed by BBC News Indonesia. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The data source is obtained from the BBC's coverage series with the theme ‘Setelah ISIS Jatuh' which was published in February 2020. The method used in this research is Robert Entman's framing model analysis which states that every media constructing news must go through four stages, (1) define problems, (2) diagnose causes, (3) make moral judgment, and (4) treatment recommendation. The results, BBC News Indonesia admits that ISIS is a dangerous organization that threatens world security, so it is natural that ISIS militants are not given a pardon to return to their country of origin. However, the BBC highlights the lives of children who have fallen victim to ISIS to be pardoned for humanitarian reasons. Keyword: Indonesian citizens ex-ISIS, BBC News Indonesia, framing

Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the government implemented Distance Learning or online classes from home throughout Indonesia, including in Umejero Village, Busungbiu, Singaraja. The purpose of this research is to find out how parents and children communicate in the online class adaptation that occurred during the pandemic era in Umejero. This research is descriptive qualitative research that uses theories of communication patterns between parents and children by Yusuf Syamsu, namely permissive communication patterns (liberating), authoritarian communication patterns (authoritarian), and authoritative communication patterns (democratic). Data collection techniques that are used are in-depth interviews with 6 informants consisting of 3 parents and 3 elementary school students in Umejero, documentation and observation. The results are all the theories of communication patterns by Yusuf Syamsu were used in Umejero, one family used permissive patterns, one family used authoritative patterns, and one family used combined permissive and authoritarian patterns. Abstract

Film is one of the communication media that has the ability to convey a message and becomes an effective and educative media as a reference for humanity for the community. One of the films that raises the message of various important issues in humanity is The Shape of Water. The purpose of this research is to explain the messages of humanity in the film The Shape of Water through a qualitative approach. This research uses the semiotic analysis of Roland Barthes to examine the meaning of denotation, connotation and myth contained in the film. The results of this research show that the human values in the The Shape of Water include messages of helping each other, realizing equality, having a good attitude towards others, establishing intimacy and affection, as well as reminding and advising each other. Abstract

From commercials that aired on television, Line Webtoon became one of the digital comics that advertise their products with the aim of people watching their ads can download online comic apps and increase reading interest in comics. The purpose of this research is to find out the relationship between watching Line Webtoon ads on television to the interest in reading comics online in the people of Denpasar. This research uses a type of associative with quantitative approach. Sampling techniques used are nonprobability sample techniques and purposive sampling methods. Analysis techniques used in research through several stages, namely research instrument test, classical assumption test, Multiple Linear Regression Analysis, Goodness of Fit Test and T Statistical Test and Determination Coefficient. The result of this study is watching Webtoon Line Ads on Television is able to influence the Interest in Reading Comics online in the people of Denpasar. Abstract

Imperfect film features body shaming as the main focus of the story as well as depicting the impact felt by victims due to continuous body shaming. This research was conducted to find out the discourse displayed by Ernest Prakasa as director in the film "Imperfect". This qualitative research uses the method of analysis of the discourse model of Teun A. Van Dijk. The results of this study show that the presence of standards or parameters of beauty is what influences the mindset and way of view of society until finally assessed and embraced as a value of truth and concrete." Imperfect" gives rise to several discourses, namely "criticizing one's own appearance through judgment or comparison with others", "criticizing the appearance of others in front of them", and "criticizing the appearance of others without their knowledge". Abstract

One of the oldest radios in Bali is Menara FM Bali radio, which has been established since October 9, 1971 which was then chosen as the subject of research to know the process of preparing a radio content planning strategy. With the aim to know the strategy of planning radio content of Menara FM Bali in the MILIS program. In fact the most popular program ini Radio Menara FM Bali is a MILIS whose content planning successfully achieves the destination of the radio where the program is sheltered. This research uses descriptive qualitative research method using Philip Lesly's theory. The results of the research showed Philip Lesly's theory in accordance with the content planning strategy of Radio Menara FM Bali, which was done not because of the scientific basis in the field of broadcasting or communication but in accordance with the needs in the field. Abstract

Today's mass media is not only a public space, but it can be a form of economic interest that fights in it. The development of the media industry often plays a profit strategy by comodification the form of impressions to gain a rating advantage. Television that is a mass media using public frequencies should be able to be wiser in airing a broadcast. The results of research in the Program Indonesian Idol Season 10 has been constructed in such a way as to conform to market price standards with various forms of commodification ranging from content, audiences, and labour. This research is qualitative research using the semiotic analysis of John Fiske and supported by the economy politic media theory proposed by Vincent Moscow.
