Abstract

One of the empirical effects of black cumin seed or jinten hitam (Nigella sativa L.) is the agent of abortivum. Feenugreek seeds should not be prescribed medicinally for pregnant women since they can induce uterine contraction. The objectives of this study are to know whether the flavour mixture of black cumin seed, fenugreek, and ginseng can cause abnormalities or congenital malformation to the rat foetus and also whether the congenital malformation or birth defect have relationship significantly with the dosage given. The mixing was given orally to pregnant rats on the 7th day until 15th day of pregnancy to observe the sum of foetus, living foetus, fetal death, resorption (foetus biometric) and congenital malformation (gross morphology). The results indicated that there were many effects of the mixture toward rat foetus, such as the decrease of weight and length, increase of resorption and fetal death, but statistically not significant, except weight of foetus. The dosage of 520; 1697,8; 5543,3 mg/kg of body weight didn’t show abnormalities or congenital malformation.

Abstract

Bone has natural repair mechanism, but there are some critical sized defects which the tissues will not regenerate themselves and need clinical repair. Hydroxyapatite, as a popular bone substitute material, can be synthesized from nature. Recently, ceramic materials like hydroxyapatite have received much attention from both researchers and surgeons because of their biocompatibility, good mechanical properties and easy handling. Moreover, many have shown bio-absorbable properties compatible with those of various surgical applications permitting the complete bone regeneration and avoiding further interventions to remove the device. The conclusion is hydroxyapatite was affects for density of type l collagen in bone healing process.

Abstract

Gingivitis can occur during pregnancy. It is caused by subgingival plaque bacterial. They can enhance because level of estrogen and progesterone are elevated during pregnancy. At patient gingivitis showed that total count of leucocyte is bigger than patients with normal periodontal tissues. The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of the number of subgingival plaque bacterial colonies to total count of leucocyte in blood periphery. Subgingival plaque samples were collected from buccal surface of maxillary first molar. Hereinafter blood taken away from vein periphery and counted by total count leucocyte. The obtained data were analyzed with linear regression test. Statistical analysis showed that the influence of the number of subgingival plaque bacterial colonies to total count of leucocyte in blood periphery was found to be significant (P<0.05). The conclusion is that the number of subgingival plaque bacterial colonies can increase total count of leucocyte in blood periphery.

Abstract

Various types of metallic orthodontic wire and brackets stainless steel, cobalt-chromium-nickel alloy, nickel-titanium alloys, beta-titanium alloy are use in the treatment of malocclusion. For correct of orthodontic appliance one must have a thorought knowledge of the material from wich these appliance are made. The mechanical and physical properties of these materials change greatly under variying condition of manipulation. These metals undergo chemical or electrochemical reactions with the oral enviroment resultilting in disssolution or formation of chemical compounds. Under several situations thr oral enviroment is highly aggresive and leds to corrosion. An in vitro study to measure the behavior of corrosion on Beta III Ti and CNA orthodontic archwire has been done. The aim of this study was to calculated the corrosion rates of orthodontic archwire. The rectangular 0.017x0.025 Beta III Ti (3M Unitek) dan CNA (OrthoOrganizer) were used in this study. To measure the corrosion rates the weight loss and planed interval test method has been used. Data was tasted and analized using Between Subjects Effectc and Multiple Comparation test .. The result show the corrosion rates of CNA was higher than Beta III Ti.

Abstract

Optimum mandible growth needs sufficient nutrition like protein and mineral in a large amount. The main mineral for bone growth is calcium, wich largely contained in milk, including Etawa sheep milk that is very popular lately. The aim of this study was to observe the difference of length and width of corpus mandible of wistar rats after being administered with Etawa sheep milk during post natal period. This study was laboratory experiment, 12 baby wistars aged 21 days were divided into 2 groups, 6 wistar for control administered with standard food and breastfed their mother. Treatment group comprised of 6 baby wistarswere administered with Etawa sheep milk using sonde and also breastfed their mother. After 60 days old, they were killed and their mandibles were decapitated and cleaned from their soft tissue. It was subsequently conducted a measurement on the length and with of their corpus mandibles. The data were then tested using T-test methode. The data showed that the length and width of the corpus mandibles were increased through Etawasheep administration. T-test showed a significant difference in the length and width of the corpus mandibles between the wistars administered with standard food and the wistars administered with Etawa sheep milk

Abstract

Cleft palate is a congenital deformity that causes a multitude of problems and represents a special challenge to the medical community. Speech production, feeding, maxillofacial growth, and dentition are just a few important developmental stages that may be affected. Beside that, these children and their families often experience serious psychological problems. A broad spectrum of variations in clinical presentation exists. Several subtypes of cleft palate can be diagnosed based on severity. The correct diagnosis of a cleft anomaly is fundamental for treatment, for further genetic and etiopathological studies, and for preventive measures correctly targeting the category of preventable orofacial clefts. These article reviews the embriology, etiology, pathophysiology, and classification of the cleft palate

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a systemic disease characterized by insulin deficiency. Common symptoms in people with diabetes is elevated blood glucose is called hyperglycemia. Manifestations in the oral cavity are inflammation of gingival tissue or periodontitis. The bacteria that play a role in the severity of periodontal disease is A. actinomycetemcomitans. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of blood glucose levels with the growth of A. actinomycetemcomitans in DM rats treated with insulin therapy. Methode 20 three month old male Wistar rats with weight of 170-200 grams were divided into two groups. First, periodontitis and DM were manipulated into all groups through aloksan injection with dose of 170 mg/kg. Those rats in group I were treated with insulin, those in group II were without treatment. In the third and seventh weeks, the blood glucose levels and the number of A. actinomycetemcomitans was measured. The data was tested by using Pearson test. The results showed that there is a strong relationship between blood glucose levels with the growth of A. actinomycetemcomitans. Conclusion: The increasing blood glucose levels are very strongly associated with an increase in the number of A. actinomycetemcomitans and otherwise in DM rats with insulin therapy.
