Abstract

This study aimed to determine the response of growth and yield of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L). This research was carried out at the Field Laboratory of Experimental Gardens II and the Laboratory of Agrotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, Halu Oleo University from December 2021 to February 2022. This research was carried out using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with a single factor consisting of five treatment levels, namely, No Organic Fertilizer Liquid (P0), Liquid Organic Fertilizer 10 ml.L-1 (P1), Liquid Organic Fertilizer 20 ml.L-1 (P2), Liquid Organic Fertilizer 30 ml.L-1 (P3), Liquid Organic Fertilizer 40 ml. L-1 (P4) and each treatment was repeated three times, each replication contained 15 plants, so the total treatment unit was 45 polybags. The variables observed were: plant height (cm), number of leaves (strands), leaf area (cm2), wet weight of plants (g), dry weight of plants (g), wet weight of plant roots (g), and dry weight of plant roots. Each observation variable was analyzed using analysis of variance to determine the effect of treatment. if there is F-count greater than F-table followed by UJBD at a 95% confidence level. The results showed that the liquid organic fertilizer treatment had an effect on the observed variables of plant roots at harvest, which showed that at (10 ml.L-1) is the best concentration by showing the highest average value of lettuce plant growth and yield

Abstract

Dragon fruit (Hylocereus undatus) is one type of cactus plant that has favorable prospects to be developed economically and in accordance with tropical climates such as Indonesia. This plant does not escape from the disturbance of pests and plant disease organisms. The fire ant (Solenopsis invicta) is one of pests that cause damage during flowering and fruiting. This study aims to determine the concentration of an effective eco-enzyme solution to control fire ant pests on dragon fruit plants. This study used a completely randomized design consisting of three treatments, namely the concentration of the eco-enzyme solution 0 mL/L water (P0), the eco-enzyme solution concentration 0.5 mL/L water (P1) and the concentration of the eco-enzyme solution 1 mL/L water (P2). The variables observed were mortality and intensity of fire ant attacks on dragon fruit plants every day after application for seven days. The results showed that eco-enzyme solution concentration of 0.5 mL/L water was effective in killing fire ant pests and reducing the intensity of fire ant damage on dragon fruit plants.

Abstract

The increasing need for red ginger as a raw material for medicines is a challenge for the farmers, but unfortunately ginger production is still lower than local and export demand. Basically, low soil fertility is a major obstacles in improving the productivity of ginger plants. This study aims to evaluate the changes of several soil chemical properties and the growth of red ginger plants treated with banana peel compost. This research was carried out at the Experimental Farm at the Faculty of Agriculture, Halu Oleo University from August to October 2021. This study used a randomized block design comprised of 4 treatments, namely K0 = no compost, K1 = 10 t ha-1 (400 g polybag-1), K2 = 20 t ha-1 (800 g polybag-1), K3 = 30 t ha-1 (1,200 g polybag-1) and repeated 4 times. The results revealed that the application of banana peel compost improved soil quality by increasing soil pH, organic C, CEC and total soil K. The improvements of soil properties were linear until the application of banana peel compost at 40 t ha-1. The application of banana peel compost has a significant effect on plant height and number of leaves and the impact was linear up to application of 30 t ha-1 (K3).

Abstract

Large red chilies are a horticultural commodity that has quite high economic in Indonesia. This research aims to determine the effect of cow manure and planting distance on the production of large chili plants. The research was carried out at the Experimental Fields 2 of Agricultural Faculties of Halu Oleo University from November 2022 to April 2023. The experimental design used was a randomized block design in a factorial pattern consisting of 2 factor. The firs factors is cow manure which consists of 4 doses, namely without manure (Ko), 7,5 t/ha (K1), 15 t /ha (K2), and 22,5 t/ha (K3). The second factors is plant distance which consist of 3 types, namely plant distance 30 cm x 30 cm (J1), 30 cm x 40 cm (J2), and 30 cm x 50 cm (J3). Each treatment was repeated 3 times so that there were 36 experimental unit. The variables observed were the number of branches, number of flowers, length of fruit, number of fruit and weight of fruit. The results of the research showed that there was an interaction effect between the manure application treatment and plant spacing treatment on the production of large chili plant. The treatment of providing 15 t/ha of manure with a planting distance of 30 cm x 40 cm (J2K2) gives the highest production of large red chilies, namely 16,39 t/ha.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of combining Kinetin and IAA on the growth of kepok banana shoots in vitro. The research was conducted at the In Vitro Laboratory, Agrotechnology Unit, Faculty of Agriculture, Halu Oleo University, from January to April 2023. The study utilized a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with six treatments: P1 = (Kinetin 1 mg L⁻¹ + IAA 2 mg L⁻¹), P2 = (Kinetin 3 mg L⁻¹ + IAA 4 mg L⁻¹), P3 = (Kinetin 5 mg L⁻¹ + IAA 6 mg L⁻¹), P4 = (Kinetin 2 mg L⁻¹ + IAA 1 mg L⁻¹), P5 = (Kinetin 4 mg L⁻¹ + IAA 3 mg L⁻¹), and P6 = (Kinetin 6 mg L⁻¹ + IAA 5 mg L⁻¹). Each treatment had five replicates, resulting in 30 experimental units, with four Kepok banana shoot explants per culture bottle. The observed variables included shoot emergence time, number of shoots, shoot length, and shoot growth percentage. Results indicated that the combination of Kinetin and IAA concentrations significantly affected the number of shoots and shoot emergence time and shoot length, but did not significantly affect the shoot growth percentage. The best treatment was P2 = (Kinetin 3 mg L⁻¹ + IAA 4 mg L⁻¹) for in vitro growth of Kepok banana shoots.

Abstract

The rain-fed rice fields of Jati Bali Village have contributed to increasing rice productivity in South Konawe Regency. This study aims to determine the status of soil fertility in rainfed paddy fields and to determine fertilization recommendations in rainfed lowland fields. This research was conducted in Jati Bali Village, West Ranomeeto District, South Konawe Regency and the Biology Laboratory of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Halu Oleo University, taking place from May to July 2022. This research used a purposive sampling method based on different altitudes. Soil samples were taken, namely upper rice fields (65-71 m asl), middle rice fields (58-64 m asl) and lower rice fields (50-57 m asl) then carried out laboratory analysis on the soil samples. The results showed that the fertility status of rainfed lowland rice fields was classified as low and moderate. Low soil fertility is found in the upper paddy fields and middle paddy fields. While soil fertility is found in the lower paddy fields. Fertilizer recommendations for the upper paddy fields are 200 kg ha-1 of NPK fertilizer, 175 kg ha-1 of Urea fertilizer and 2 t ha-1 of manure. While the recommendation for fertilizer for middle and lower paddy fields is the application of NPK fertilizer as much as 150 kg ha-1, Urea fertilizer as much as 200 kg ha-1 and manure as much as 2 t ha-1.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the land suitability class and efforts to manage the limiting factors that exist on land in Lasalimu District, Buton Regency. The method used is an independent survey by taking soil samples in each land unit (LU) for analysis in the laboratory. The results showed that the longan plant was quite suitable (S2) to be developed at LU 25 and 27 with a land area of 65.69 ha (0.95%), marginally suitable (S3) at LU 1-3, 5, 8-14, and LU 23 with a land area is 1,828.10 ha (26.50%), and is not suitable (N) at LU 4, 6, 7, 15- 22, 24, and LU 26 with a land area of 5,004.71 (72.55%). Potentially if efforts are made to manage the limiting factors for the development of longan plants, the suitability class becomes quite suitable (S2) at LU 3, 5, 8-14, 23, 25 and LU 27 with a land area of 1,207.54 (17.49%), marginally suitable (S3) on LU 1, 2, 4, 15, 17, 19- 22, 24 and LU 26 with a land area of 4,787.76 (69.29%) and not suitable (N) on LU 6, 7, 16, and LU 18. Management actions that need to be taken for limiting factors of nutrient availability are fertilization, nutrient retention by liming and adding organic matter, erosion hazard with conservation efforts such as planting according to contours, making terraces and planting cover crops, while for limiting factors such as air temperature, soil depth, slope, surface rocks and rock outcrops cannot be repaired because the limiting factor is permanent

Abstract

Colletotrichum sp. is an important pathogen causing anthracnose in chili peppers. Anthracnose can cause yield losses of up to 90%. The control method commonly used by farmers is chemical control, but this method is not environmentally friendly. Endophytic fungi can be isolated from various plants, both cultivated plants and wild plants or weeds. Moringa is a plant that grows well in Southeast Sulawesi and is a vegetable that has excellent benefits due to its high nutritional content and potential as a biological agent. This study aimed to obtain endophytic fungi from moringa that have the potential to inhibit the growth of the pathogenic fungus Colletotrichum sp. in vitro. The research began with the exploration of endophytic fungi from moringa plant tissues. Subsequently, pathogenicity tests, inhibition tests using the dual culture method, and inhibition tests using the volatile compound method were conducted. The results showed that there were 3 (three) isolates of endophytic fungi from moringa that have potential as biological control agents for Colletotrichum sp., namely isolates ED02, EB01, and EB02. Isolate ED02 was the best biological agent for controlling Colletotrichum sp. in vitro, with dual culture inhibition and volatile compound inhibition percentages of 74.10% and 37.45%.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the genetic diversity of several local cayenne pepper cultivars from Southeast Sulawesi and to find out which local cayenne pepper cultivars from Southeast Sulawesi show the best growth and yields. This research was carried out at the Agricultural Extension Center (BPP) Pilot Land located in Langkoroni Village, Maligano District, Muna Regency. The research implementation time starts from October 2021 to February 2022. Data analysis using variety fingerprints, if it shows a real and very real influence then continued Duncan multiple range test (DMRT) with the help of statistical product and service solution (SPSS) application facility and calculate genetic diversity value. The results showed that quantitative characters with high diversity were found in the characters of flowering age, harvest age, number of fruits, fruit weight, fruit length and fruit diameter. Somewhat high is found in the character of plant height and leaf area. Slightly low was found in the character of the number of leaves and low was found in the character of the length of the fruit stalk. The qualitative characters observed were uniform because there were no differences in the observed local cayenne pepper cultivars from Southeast Sulawesi. The local cayenne pepper cultivar from Southeast Sulawesi that showed the highest growth and fruit yield was found in the cultivar from Kolaka (145.96 grams/plant), followed by North Buton-2 (125.71 grams/plant), then South Konawe (121.93 grams/plant) compared to other local cayenne pepper cultivars.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the fact that eggplant production is still low because it is triggered by the condition of agricultural land which is less fertile and the limited availability of nutrients. One alternative used to overcome this is liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) from rice washing water. This research aims to determine the effect of LOF made from rice washing water on the growth of eggplant plants and to determine the treatment that has the best effect on the growth of eggplant plants. This research was carried out at the Experimental Garden Field Laboratory II and the Agrotechnology Laboratory, Agronomy Unit, Faculty of Agriculture, Halu Oloe University (HOU) Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi from August to October 2023. The design used was a randomized block design (RBD) with LOF treatment of washing water rice consisting of three levels, namely 150 mL (B1), 300 mL (B2) and 450 mL L-1 water (B3). The variables observed were stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf area, number of branches, flowering age, total dry weight and root shoot ratio (RSR). Data from observations were analyzed using variance analysis (ANOVA) and further testing using Duncan's multiple range test (DMRT) at a confidence level of 95%. The results showed that LOF treatment of rice washing water had a very significant effect on stem diameter at 56 DAP; number of leaves and total leaf area at 14, 28, 42 and 56 DAP; number of branches, and total dry weight. The best treatment to increase the growth of eggplant plants is LOF at a dose of 450 mL L-1 water.
