Abstract

This study examined critically Montessori’s concepts on early childhood education through Islamic Psychology perspective. This research used qualitative methodology with a literature approach. The results showed that (1) Montessori’s method pays more attention to the cognitive aspect of children development while children potential doesn’t only consist of cognitive, affective, and psycho-motoric aspects, but also spiritual one; (2) Reinforcement are not needed in Montessori’s method, while in Islamic Psychology, rewards can increase children's learning and punishment is needed to make children become disciplined in carrying out the rules; (3) Learning environment should be structured, in order, realistic and natural. This concept is suitable for upper class educational institutions but it would be difficult for middle-low income groups since the materials required by Montessori’s method is expensive enough. (4) Parents and teachers are required to become observers and interpreters. This role may pose problem on the part of parents and teachers since not all parents and teachers have criteria to act as is it expected by Montessori’s method.

Abstract

This article aims to investigate how santri understood the concept of ‘uzlah in Pesantren and how they participated in ‘uzlah activities to enhance their mentality and spirituality.  ‘Uzlah is a form of self-isolation and an effort to detach from everything dealing with the world. Its purpose is to get closer to Allah. The research applied Al – Ghazali framework theory to describe and elaborate students’ uzlah practice. The type of the research was qualitative applying phenomenology approach. The data collection technique were observation and focus group discussion for students to investigate their understanding on ‘uzlah practice. The data analysis process applied flow models as the followings: data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The research found that the santri understood concept of ‘uzlah as the way to perform activity and a treatment that position themselves to live with the Sufi attitude without ignoring their role as a member of society. Through the activity of ‘uzlah, santri’s spirituality and mentality were built as a form of integrity between religious activity and their factual life pattern in the society.

The results showed that based on the grouping of students’ answer scores for emotional intelligence as follows: high group of 9.57%, medium group 69.57% and low group, 20.87%. This is based on the product-moment correlation test results and linear regression test results, both at the 5% level and at the 1% level. This article examines the interpretation of the Qur’an among education scholars in contemporary Indonesia. This article studies 24 books of Tafsir Tarbawi (educational exegesis) which has been written in 2000-2018. The study focuses on the nature, validity, and contribution of Tafsir Tarbawi in Indonesia. This research belongs to library research. By using bibliographical analysis, this study concludes that firstly, Tafsir Tarbawi is a Qur’anic exegesis that uses pedagogic approach in interpreting the Qur’an; secondly, it appears as a text book and as a special work of tafsir; thirdly, it is a valid and acceptable Qur’anic exegesis; and fourthly, its works have relatively contributed to the development of Islamic Education science, either in term of paradigm and method or in that of product. As a paradigm and methodology, books of Tafsir Tarbawi have offered approach and method of tafsir in developing Tafsir Tarbawi (pedagogic exegesis), while as a product, book of Tafsir Tarbawi in Indonesia not only have confirmed basic concepts and principles of Islamic Education, but also have formulized science or theory of Islamic Education. Therefore, Tafsir Tarbawi might function as theological-scriptural basis and epistemological-conceptual tool as well. However, these efforts should be advanced.

Abstract

Religious tolerance is one of the competencies listed in Indonesia higher education curriculum. There is a need to design learning model that can increase students’ religious tolerance in higher education. This study aims to produce a learning model for religious education which is based on the Quran to nurture students’ religious tolerance. To answer the problem of this study, a quasi-R&D model was chosen. This research is multi-years. In the first year (2019) a learning model was tested. The research findings showed that the lecture model was carried out in six stages: describing the Qur'anic view of the faith of adherents of non-Islamic religions; reminding students of the dangers of takfir; describing students’ common mistakes in assessing other religions; describing the main teachings of other religions correctly; searching for common denominator between Islam and other religions; and developing inclusive attitudes and religious tolerance. After being tested, this learning model has proven to be effective in increasing students' understanding of the basic teachings of other religions, in understanding of the basic teachings of Islam, in developing more robust understanding in their Islamic aqeedah, and being more inclusive and tolerant to adherents of other religions.

Abstract

Epistemology as a branch in philosophy has an important position in science including in Islamic education. This research critically examines the epistemological construction of Islamic education through a perspective of falsification which was coined by Karl R. Popper. This research used a qualitative approach to the type of literature study and analyzes data through a productive hermeneutical approach. The conclusion of this research shows that scientific epistemology needs to be designed to understand the theories, concepts, and propositions of the Islamic education system. Scientific epistemology contains the verificative-philosophical logic and intuition-revelation logic (Qur'an and al-Hadith. This epistemology has a rational-critical, empirical, intuitive, and prophetic (illahiyah) dimension and it is called Prophetic Criticism. The implication is that Islamic education will have an integrative view of the profane (physical) and transcendental (metaphysical) side. Islamic education is the logical-superlogical content of subjective-objective thinking, the world of theory-supratheory, and critical argumentation with a rational-intuitive foundation of self and outside self-views.
