Abstract

Dietary contributes to sustainable food security. Accordingly, attempts to elevate dietary patterns should be simultaneous and comprehensive, especially to the farmer community living in rural areas, who have two roles, i.e., producers and consumers. In response to that situation, this research aims to analyze household dietary patterns and contributing factors. This research was conducted in Wukirsari Imogiri Bantul. The data used in this research were primary data collected from 63 respondents selected using the cluster sampling approach. Dietary patterns were analyzed using 2×24-hour dietary recall data with a household measure unit and a Desirable Dietary Pattern (DDP). Meanwhile, the contributing factors were analyzed using the Double Linear Regression Approach. Findings indicate that the Desirable Dietary Pattern in Wukirsari was monotonous, confirmed by the resulted DDP score of 60.62. Moreover, the significant factor with a partial impact on household dietary patterns was educational levels. Meanwhile, other factors, e.g., the number of family members, the age of the head of the family, income per capita, rice prices, beneficiaries, and the main job of the head of the family had a simultaneous significant impact, which was also partially insignificant, on dietary patterns.

Abstract

For more than three decades, domestic rice production was not able to meet its growing demand and showed in poor performance. This research aims to analyze the performance of rice farming in West Kalimantan. The research was conducted using descriptive methods through interviews. The data was analyzed to describe farmer personal character, skill and knowlwdge, risk analysis, and technical efficiency employing stochastic frontier model.  This study proved that farmer had 3 to 6 years of pupilage attainment; used rainfed; widely used Ciherang seeds; most of them had 0.25-1.25 ha; only 20% of rice farming could achieve over 6.5 tons/ha. The distribution of technical efficiency showed that only 17.41% of rice farmer is able to achieve sufficient; while 60-70% of technical efficiency is achieved by 30.37% of rice farmer. However, the risk of production, prices, and income each was than 0.5.

Abstract

Development of agriculture mechanization in Sambas Regency is needed in order to support the increased of rice production. Technically, agricultural mechanization is expected to increase the productivity of the land and, economically, it is expected to increase farmers' income. The purpose of this research is to analyze the effect of tractor usage on income and availability of labor in rice farming. This research was conducted in Sambas Regency, using survey method. The results showed that the use of tractors for soil processing significantly increased the productivity and income of rice farming. The use of tractors on soil treatment has increased productivity by 667 kg/ha. The use of tractors on land treatment also increased revenues by Rp.2.843.400,-/ha, although raising the cost. In-house labor and farming families are available for soil cultivation, but farmers generally prefer to use the tractors for soil treatment. The use of tractors has reduced the use of labor, thus accelerating land preparation and planting activities. Farmers who do not use tractors because of environmental factors farming, namely the unavailability of irrigation.

Abstract

Agricultural land in urban areas has a strategic role as a provider of food for city resident, as well as supporting the environment of the urban area. The important role of the existence of agricultural land in urban areas over the past few decades faces a serious threat, namely the occurrence of agricultural land conversion. Therefore, this research was carried out with the aim to analyze the trend of agricultural land conversion in urban areas and to find out the factors that influence the agricultural land conversion in Pekalongan City. The data used in this study were secondary data sourced from the Central Statistics Agency of Pekalongan City. Data were analyzed using trend model analysis and tobit models. The results showed that the trend of agricultural land conversion in Pekalongan City was positive, so there was a tendency for the agricultural land conversion to increase from year to year. The factors that influence the area of agricultural land conversion in Pekalongan City were the real price of paddy at the farmer level and paddy productivity. Both of these factors have a negative sign, it shows that an increase in real prices of paddy and paddy productivity could reduce the agricultural land conversion in Pekalongan City.

Abstract

The average price of white pepper in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province from January 2007 to December 2016 was IDR 72,531 per kg on the producer market, IDR 80,622 per kg on the export market, and IDR 99,017 per kg on the world market. Based on the data, there is a large marketing margin between the producer market and the export market, IDR 8,091 per kg. While, the margin between the export market and the world market was IDR 18,395 per kg. The present research aims to analyze the transmission of white pepper prices in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province among the three markets. The Asymmetric Error Correction Model (AECM) was used as the model to analyze the transmission of white pepper prices in Bangka Belitung Island Province from producers to exporters, from producers to world market, and from exporters to world market. The transmission of white pepper prices from the three markets shows that in the short period it runs asymmetrically, whereas in the long period it runs symmetrically. Conversely, the transmission of white pepper prices from the world market to the exporters market runs symmetrically in the short term but it runs asymmetrically in the long term.

Abstract

The availability of Indonesian potato seed and production of potato for consumption depends on the availability and quality of Generation 0 (G0) potato seed. This study aims to observe G0 potato seed production management in Indonesia. Data were collected through Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and survey. Thirty-seven G0 potato seed producers participated in the survey. Data were analyzed descriptively, while the feasibility of the farm budget of G0 potato production was calculated using the enterprise budget method. The results showed that the producers had challenges on capital to broaden the screen house to extend the production scale and limited plantlet availability. Meanwhile, they did not have any problems with other production aspects, such as controlling pests and diseases and the marketing of the G0 seed. Government supports to provide screen houses to fulfil producers' necessity and delegate the legality of potato plantlets are needed to create a better Indonesia's potato seed system.

Abstract

Applying sustainable horticulture as an innovation in The Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) Indonesia can be a commendable example in agricultural extension education. Previous research has revealed that understanding farmers' perceptions of innovation is essential for appropriate interventions to change their behavior. In DIY, the surveys were conducted in 2016 with 257 males and 93 females of farmers groups member from 21 villages in Sleman, Bantul, and Kulonprogo Regency. The objective of the survey was to determine the effects of farmer's internal factors on the perception of ecological, social economy, and ethical (ESE) urgency as a component of sustainable horticulture practices. The findings from the ecological, social, and ethical dimensions among the farming community in DIY indicated that, directly and indirectly, the farmers can acknowledge and practice sustainable horticulture. However, this was altering several factors, most notably, motivation and the prospect of increased income. The important thing in extension work was motivation, and a major motivating factor was the possibility of increased agricultural income. This study suggests that extension education of achieving horticultural sustainability in DIY should be based on the motivation of farmers and thoughtfulness of their basic needs especially needs to have higher income.
