Abstract

An increasing population in recent decades has led to the need for increasing the availability of food, so it is necessary to increase the production of paddy as quickly as possible. The aim of this research was to know the supply response of paddy in East Java to various price factors and non-price factors. In this research, the supply response was estimated by the paddy harvest areas in East Java using Cobb-Douglas model and Nerlove partial adjustment, and econometric analysis including stationarity test, cointegration test, and Error Correction Model (ECM). The data used in this research consisted of paddy harvest areas, grain price, corn price, irrigated land area and rainfall amount from 1991 to 2015. The speed of short-term adjustment to the long-term supply of rice was 2.79% and was corrected in the next period. In the short run, all variables did not have a high responsiveness to paddy supply, but in the long run, the irrigation area was very responsive to paddy supply in East Java with a value of elasticity of 1.79. Supply of paddy can be increased by increasing the real price of unhulled rice, the irrigated land, and harvested area of the previous period.

Abstract

The price and consumption of rubber experienced a decline due to the global economic crisis, the US-China trade war, and coronavirus. This situation is unprofitable for Indonesia, and it must develop new target markets. Central Europe is one of the potential markets for Indonesian rubber. This study aims to ascertain the performance of the Indonesian rubber exports to Central European countries and forecast its future. The research used Indonesian rubber export data to Hungary, Poland, and Romania from January 1999 to March 2021. Descriptive statistics and autoregressive integrated moving averages were used to analyze the data. In the last three decades, Indonesian rubber exports to Central Europe have risen. The short-term forecasting indicates that Indonesian rubber exports to Poland will increase; on the other hand, exports to Romania will experience a decline. Meanwhile, exports to Hungary were relatively stable. This result was obtained using ARIMA estimation with different models for each country, respectively ARIMA(1,0,5) in Poland, ARIMA(2,0,1) in Romania, and ARIMA(2,0,1) in Hungary.

Abstract

The availability of agricultural land in urban areas has an important role in ensuring the availability of food for the population. The urban sprawl phenomenon that occurs in urban areas encourages the availability of agricultural land to experience shrinkage over time. Therefore, this study aims to determine the trend of the development of the area of agricultural land in Pekalongan City, and its impact on the fulfillment the food needs of the population. This study used a sample of urban areas in Pekalongan City using purposive sampling method and the data used are secondary data sourced from the Central Bureau of Statistics and the Food Security and Extension Agency (BKPP) in 1989 until 2017. The data used in this study are data agricultural land area, rice production, population, and consumption per capita of rice in Pekalongan City, as well as factor data for conversion of rice to rice. Furthermore, all data is processed and then analyzed using trend analysis. The results showed that the area of agricultural land in Pekalongan City is decreasing over time. Moreover, it followed by the quantity of rice offered that also have a downward trend. In addition, the demand trend of the population's rice also declined due to the decline of rice consumption per capita population in Pekalongan City during the period 1989 to 2017.

Abstract

Agricultural land is a land that has a relatively low rental value, so agricultural land is very vulnerable to be converted. Therefore, this research was conducted with the aim 1) to know farmers’ willingness to accept a compensation to protect agricultural land sustainability, 2) to know the factors that influence farmers' willingness to accept / reject WTA, and 3) to know the factors that influence the WTA value of farmers’ in the peri-urban areas. The study was conducted in the peri-urban areas of Pekalongan City. The research respondents were 90 farmer owners and cultivators. The research data was analyzed by using Heckman's two-stage model. The results showed that farmers’ WTA in the peri-urban areas of Pekalongan City amounted to IDR 7,217,827.27 per year. Factors that influence farmers’ willingness to accept or reject compensation are the distance of the agricultural land to the main road and farmers' perceptions toward the sustainability of agricultural land in the peri-urban areas. Factors that influence the number of farmers’ WTA to be willing to protect the agricultural land in the peri-urban areas of Pekalongan City are farmers’ farm income and farming experience of the farmers. Sustainability of agricultural land in the suburbs of Pekalongan City can be maintained by taking into account the facilities and infrastructure needed by farmers who own agricultural land both far and close to the main road, increasing farmers' perceptions of the sustainability of agricultural land, increasing farm income and reducing the risk of farming production.
