Abstract

‘Each variety of English in the world has its own distinctive features which areassociated with various reasons. The research aims primarily at discovering whetherL1 strongly influences Vietnamese accented English or not. In order to meet thisaim, the research focuses on: (1) identifying phonological similarities and dissimilarities between Vietnamese and English vowels and consonants based on bothacoustic and articulatory features; (2) investigating acoustic features of Vietnamese English vowels; (3) answering the question of whether the pronunciation of thespeakers is influenced by the phonological differences and similarities. This research is of descriptive type and the method adopted is a mixture of qualitative andquantitative approach. Acoustic data are gleaned from 6 recordings made by sixVietnamese informants. The measurements of sounds are figured out by means ofWave-surfer program. The result of the study shows that Vietnamese accented English is strongly influenced by the dissimilarities between Vietnamese and English.Keywords: Vietnamese English, Segmental and Supra-segmental errors, vowels/consonants similarities and dissimilarities

Abstract

Abstract-The visual and non-visual advertisement is created to attract consumer’s interest for the product, an important aspect to deliver the message is by advertising and branding the product with local wisdom and culture. As it deilivered clearly,  informative and communicative it will be a solution of global market, recently the consumers are not dirrectly attracted to advertisement because the advertisement can’t transfer the message naturally. This article is qualitative research, it describes the phenomena of Coca cola branding on TV, Net.  The strategy is the key success of marketting to achieve the profit and bring the messages delivered. The global branding delivered by Coca cola opens insight of strategy to grasp the prospective consumers. The topic of the recent video advertisement on TV, Net called open happiness.This strategy is created to fasten the effect of advertisement for consumers, positive response to buy the product. However there is a challenge to opt the right culture for branding the product. It has great success because it uses both methods of marketing textual and graphic. Those two reflect on political and cultural aspects of targetted language. This is done to attract the consumers topurchase the products and gain the maximum benefits. Benefits of capital and trust. Ads on TV, Net with the topic open happiness uses both textual and graphic.Keyword : advertisement, audio visual translation, branding, deliver.

Abstract

This article discusses the semantics, of three Japanese time signifiers, namely toki, sai, and atatte. Those lexemes are synonymous. However, in particular context, they are not interchangeable. This research aims to (1) find the meaning of those three lexemes, (2) to investigate the difference among those three, and (3) to describe why those lexemes appear in Japanese vocabulary. The meaning component is analyzed using interview and reference studies method. After that, meaning component of those lexeme is analyzed using substitution method to find the difference. The result of this research is that those three lexemes have the same sense as lexeme that related to time. In addition, those three lexemes have common component that are jikoku (when or time) and formality. Yet, in other contexts those lexemes are not interchangeable because each lexeme has supplement component that becomes its characteristic. This supplement component causes those three lexemes to be not interchangeable in some particular contexts. The needs of special meaning of those three lexemes in a sentence causing those lexemes exist in Japanese vocabulary.Keywords: Japanese, time signifier, toki, sai, atatte, synonym

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the dimension of sufistic in of shortstory “O, Jiwa yang Edan” masterpieces of Danarto with semiotic evaluation. Theresult of the sufistic dimension in a short story “O, Jiwa yang Edan” is on thetasawuf, terminology, understanding and hierarchy in tasawuf. At tasawuf hierarchythere are four steps which much be passed by that: (1) syari’at, (2) tarikat, (3)hakikat, and (4) makrifat. In the short story of “O, Jiwa yang Edan” the four stepsstarted from the tarikat described by leaving of enjoyment world. While the hakikatdescribed that any creature will go home to the God. Makrifat is if someone becometo recognize the reality of Allah. The understanding of tasawuf used by theauthor of short story is wahdatul syuhud.

Abstract

This paper provides the rationale for an overview and a discussion of the issues that affect best practices for play-based learning, particularly the implicationsof adults’ attitudes regarding child’s play and learning for play-based learning practice in early childhood educational settings in Indonesia. The conceptof play-based learning can be attributed to the National Early Years Learning Framework in Indonesia. However, the practice remains challenging as the result of diverse concepts of child’s play and learning. This discussion begins with an overview of the framework and of government support. It details the relevant research on the challenges that educators and teachers have faced with the implementation of the framework.

Abstract

The study aims to describe the implementation, result, and students’ responses to the implementation of teaching English pronunciation using Audio Visual Aids (AVAs). This descriptive qualitative study requires four procedures: planning, imple- menting, observing, and reflecting. The object of the study is the fifth year consist- ing of 19 students of Al-Azhar Syifa Budi Elementary School of Surakarta. The methods of data collection are pre-test and post-test, interview, questionnaires, and observation. The findings show that the mean score of students’ pre-test is 7.5 and the mean score of students’ post-test is 9.4. The result of the pre-test and post- test indicates that there is an improvement in students’ pronunciation, especially in pronouncing word-stress. The students’ responses to the implementation of AVAs are positive. It is proven by their enjoyment and excitement condition during the implementation of AVAs. Besides, their pronunciation ability, especially in pronounc- ing the correct word-stress has also improved. They are very interested in learning English pronunciation by watching video, since they can watch the characters’ expressions, listen to the native speaker’s voice, and read the subtitling appeared on the screen. Key words: AVAs, Classroom Action Research, video, pronunciation, and word-stress.

Abstract

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kategori dan ekspresi lingustik bidang pertanian Sasak tradisional di pulau Lombok, yang dikaitkan dengan konteks sosio-kultural masyarakat tani setempat. Untuk tujuan tersebut, kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Sementara untuk analisis data digunakan analisis komponen. Analisis dipusatkan pada leksikon dan ekspresi linguistik pada ranah pertanian. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa dalam ranah pertanian itu selalu memunculkan istilah-istilah yang menjadi ekspresi/kategori linguistiknya. Ekspresi linguistik itu berbentuk kategori verba dan nomina. Urutan pengklasifikasian/ pengategorian terhadap ekspresi linguistik—baik nomina maupun verba—pun disesuaikan dengan rangkaian proses aktivitas pertanian dan hasil yang diperoleh. Untuk itu, pengategorisasiaan yang ada didasarkan pada komponen makna generik yang menyesuaikan proses dan hasil—verba dan nomina—dalam ranahnya itu.Kata Kunci: kategori dan ekspresi linguistik, analisis komponensial, etnosemantik.
