Abstract

The study focussed on the intertextual analysis of poems “Padamu Jua”, masterpieceof Amir Hamzah and “Doa”, masterpiece of Chairil Anwar. The study aims todescribe: (1) the intertexts relation of the poem “Padamu Jua” and “Doa”; (2) the influenceof the poem “Padamu Jua” as hypogram on the poem “Doa”; and (3) to describethe possibility of the al-Qur’an as an inspiration source. The research method is qualitativesince it uses participant observation technique. This means that the researcher getsinto the realms of data, comprehends them, and continuously systematizes the object ofstudy. The object of study is the intertextualities of the two poems while the data arequalitative types in the form of verbal word or discourse within the poem text. The resultof study shows that: (1) there is intertextual relation between the poem “Padamu Jua”and “Doa”; the poem “Padamu Jua” is as a hypogram while the poem “Doa” is as itstransformation; (2) directly or indirectly, the poem “Padamu Jua” and the poem “Doa”can be seen on the structure, the imagination use, and a slight different expression of itstheme; (3) there is a strong tendency that the two poems constitute the Indonesian sufisticbellesletters inspired by the al-Qur’an verse “Light of above Light” ( S. an-Nur: 35) asits hypogram. Therefore, the two poems are categorized as highly valuable works whichare successfully to integrate the devine and human dimension.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan tingkat kesulitan, daya beda, dan efektifitas distraktor butir soal pada tes sumatif Bahasa Indonesia berdasarkan Kurikulum 2013  SMP. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah, pertama, tingkat kesulitan soal tes sumatif bahasa Indonesia Kurikulum 2013 menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas soal berkategori sedang. Adapun rincian kategori tingkat kesulitan soal tes sumatif, yaitu: mudah = 27,5%, sedang = 62,5%, sulit = 10%. Kedua, analisis daya beda menunjukkan tingginya soal yang tidak signifikan sehingga tidak bisa membedakan kelompok tinggi dan kelompok rendah dalam menjawab soal, yaitu sebanyak 50% layak, 37,5% tidak layak, dan 12,5% tidak terpercaya. Analisis ini diikuti dengan analisis distraktor yang menunjukkan bahwa masih banyaknya jumlah pengecoh yang tidak efektif dan tidak dipilih oleh peserta tes yaitu sebesar 25,84% untuk alternatif pilihan jawaban soal Kurikulum 2013, sehingga alternatif pilihan jawaban kurang mengecoh peserta tes.

Abstract

Effective and successful language course needs careful management. Language course management includes four main steps: course design, course promotion, course implementation, and course evaluation. Language course design is a dy- namic and negotiated process between the course manager and the learner. After the negotiation, the objective of the course based on the learners’ needs can be formulated, the suitable approach is adopted, the course materials, the methods and media, and the course tuition are determined. The role of course promotion is essential to achieve the success of the language course. The course promotion should be interesting, promisisng to attract the learners’ motivation to join the course. The course designer, the tutor, and administrator sould do their best in serving the learners. To make the bettrment of the language course conducted the course de- signer should conduct learner assessment and course evaluation. Key words:   course management, course design, course promotion, course imple- mentation, and course evaluation.

Abstract

Filsafat Bahasa Biasa berkembang pesat di Inggris pada awal abad ke-20. Ludwig Wittgenstein, pendirinya, menggarisbawahi bahwa di dalam kehidupan ini banyak sekali tata permainan bahasa yang mencerminkan nilai-nilai kehidupan masyarakat penggunanya. Aliran Filsafat Bahasa Biasa kemudian memengaruhi kelahiran fenomenologi Husserl, Aliran Kritis Habermas, dan Postmodernisme Lyotard. Sebagaimana diperlihatkan oleh tulisan ini, Filsafat Bahasa Biasa dijadikan tulang punggung metode analisis pesan komunikasi yang mutakhir, yang disebut dalam istilah metode analisis tindak tutur komunikasi. Metode tindak tutur komunikasi, atau metode analisis isi pesan komunikasi, pada dasarnya lebih berdaya guna untuk menganalisis media massa, sekalipun dapat pula digunakan untuk menganalisis pelbagai wujud wacana lainnya. Secara ontologis dan kritis, metode tindak tutur komunikasi merupakan pemutakhiran dari sejumlah metode analisis wacana yang sudah dikenal umum, seperti metode semiotika, metode analisis wacana kritis, dan metode pembingkaian.Kata Kunci: Filsafat Bahasa Biasa, analisis wacana, metode isi pesan komunikasi,metode tindak tutur komunikasi.

Abstract

Basa Semarangan memiliki kekayaan dan keunikan terutama dalam penjajaran  fonem  pada  struktur  internal  leksikon  dan  kekuatan  meaning dalam setiap leksikalnya. Dua hal ini lah yang banyak menduga bahwa Basa Semarangan adalah dialek yang berbeda. Penelitian ini mengkaji kekuatan tata letak fonem dalam struktur leksion unik yang terkait dengan perbedaan meaning, baik yang terkait dengan perluasan dan penyempitan arti. Lokasi penelitian di Kota Semarang, terfokus pada dua area di sepanjang Sungai Banjirkanal, yakni Mrican dan Barito. Ancangan penelitian linguistic structural terfokus pada kajian fonologi. Metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara terstruktur dan mendalam. Data dianalisis menggunakan metode  agih  dengan  piranti  teknik  pemetaan,  liniaritas    dan  harmonisasi. Hasil penelitian ditemukan bahwa kekuatan tata letak fonem dalam Basa Semarangan memiliki kekuatan dalam membangun arti baru, sehingga leksikon yang muncul menjadi varian-varian leksikon dan leksikon baru. Leksikon baru dapat dikategorikan sebagai leksikon unik yang memiliki sosiokultural dan daya emotif. Kata Kunci: fonem, unik, Basa Semarangan, leksikon.

Abstract

The purpose of this is to investigate whether there is relationship between students’ anxiety and achievement in English as a foreign language. The subjects ofthis study were second graders of among adolescents at Sekolah Menengah UmumNegeri 1 Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan. The sample was the study aged between152 sixteen and seventeen years old students at second grade. The results indicated that the students’ anxiety in learning English as foreign language was atmoderate level. There was no significant relationship between the score of anxietyand students’ achievement in English as a foreign language as a whole. But a significant negative correlation between the anxiety and students’ achievement wasindicated. There was difference between male and female on communication apprehension, it showed that female was more apprehensive than male in Englishcommunication but for overall anxiety, there was no difference in English language anxiety by gender at second grade in this school.Keywords: foreign language, anxiety, achievement, adolescents, gender.

Abstract

This research was conducted to find out the types of directive speech acts in the film entitled Mary Queen of Scots, the way the speakers expressed those types, and the reasons underlying the speakers to utter those types. This research uses Pragmatics approach. This study was designed with descriptive research. The analyzed data were all the dialogs which expressed the types of directive speech acts of Mary Queen of Scots film. The total sampling technique is used in taking the data analysis. The researcher analyzed the data found in the film based on problem statements. First, the findings are as follows 6 types of directive speech acts consisting of Command, 13 data (42%), Request 3 data (16%), Question 9 data (30%), Suggestion 2 data (6%), Prohibition 1 datum (3%), and Warning 1 datum (3%). Second, three ways of expressing politeness strategies are used by the characters in Mary Queen of Scots. They were Bald On-Record, Positive Politeness, and Off-Record. At last, the reasons characters expressed the directive speech act were to show hearer’s duty, to show anger expression, to respect the hearer, to seek agreement, and find the reason for uttering certain expression. Keywords: pragmatics, directive, speech acts, politeness strategies, film.

Abstract

Enormous imbalance of study between language impoliteness and language politeness has become serious concern among those who regard pragmatics important field in language learning. Impoliteness constitutes existing phenomena in most societies and cultures but it has so far been regarded as outside the study of pragmatics itself. This paper is meant to trigger the study of this seemingly-new phenomenon that the study of pragmatics becomes more and more extensive in Indonesia. The restriction of the available theories of this pragmatic phenomenon should not hinder the study of pragmatics.

Abstract

This paper is abstracted from the findings of a case study aimed at describing the codes used by children at Al-Amin Children Islamic Boarding School in Sukoharjo, Central Java. The majority of children at this Children Islamic Boarding School are bilinguals. They use javanese as their first language and Indonesian as their second language. However; they live in a specific language condition in which they should only use Indonesian in their daily activities. The analysis shows that the codes used by children are in the form of language (Indonesian and Javanese), speech level (ngoko, madya and krama), and style (formal, informal and brief). The differentiation of function between Indonesian and Javanese is not quite clear. Frequently, children use both Indonesian and Javanese in many occassions. As a result, there amny code switching and code mixing in their speech. Code swicthing occured in their speech to function: (1) count (2) think aloud (3) show annoyance (4) give emphasis (5) give reinforcement (6) give respect, and (7) make quotation. The result also shows that code mixing indicates that children's mastery of Indonesian and Javanese is still lacking. Besides, it also indicates that they get confused with language function.Key words: code forms, code function, code switching, and code mixing

Abstract

Racism towards African-American brings many impacts to African-American people’s life, especially who have ever experienced it. One ofsome psychological effects that experienced by African-American is doubleconsciousness experience that could be explored in Durrow’s The Girl Who Fellfrom the Sky. Double consciousness phenomenon is found in the main characterof the novel named Rachel Morse, a daughter of white mother and African-American father, who has identity problem in her new society. This study aimsto attend the identity negotiation of Rachel as the result of double consciousnessshe experienced using double consciousness theory by W.E.B. Du Bois. Thisstudy reveals that Rachel Morse who experience double consciousness has tonegotiate her biracial identity in American society who still believe in ‘one-drop’rule so that she could fit in the society. The practice of racism and stereotypeforms need to be reduced to make a better living for African-American andbiracial people in the United States.
