Abstract

Although courses on multiculturalism and tolerance have emerged at state Islamic religious universities, to date, no state Islamic university has accepted non-Muslim students. In contrast, private Islamic religious universities, particularly Muhammadiyah universities, accept non-Muslim students. In fact, more than 60% of Muhammadiyah universities in eastern Indonesia have non-Muslim students. The urgency of this research is a critical analysis of Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan (AIK) education for non-Muslims at UM Palopo. The purpose of this research is to discover the concept of multicultural AIK expressed by 20 non-Muslim students at UM Palopo in religion classes. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with non-Muslim students at UM Palopo as informants. The results show that the expression of multicultural religiosity among non-Muslim students at Muhammadiyah universities is very different from the multicultural concepts in studies of religious scriptures as they have developed so far. Non-Muslim students: Christians are becoming more Christian and Catholic students are becoming more devout in church, likewise Muslims are becoming more devout in worship. The findings of this study complement the theory of Christian Muhammadiyah (Krismuha) which has successfully managed multiculturalism in Papua.

Abstract

In the modern era, the erosion of values and character among students due to technological advancements requires an ideal educational concept that maximizes character education. This study explores an educational concept that synergizes mosques, Islamic boarding schools, and universities in one unit-triple helix. Employing a library approach, the data sources in this study are printed and digital texts, as well as books and manuscripts. The findings of this study reveal that the concept of education which combines the natures of mosques, Islamic boarding schools, and universities (triple helix) as foundational pillars plays a pivotal role in shaping an individual's character through exemplary practices. Within the concept of the mosque, the education is to maximize various activities related to the mosque. In the Pesantren (Islamic boarding school) concept, education focuses on the application of the Pesantren system within the university education curriculum. Meanwhile, the concept of university refers to the Islamization of science, as seen in the curriculum of Universitas Darussalam Gontor, Indonesia.

Abstract

Various cases of bullying happened in the educational system in Indonesia, from the elementary to high school levels. The increasing number of school bullying cases poses a challenge for guidance counsellors in addressing them. Therefore, collaboration between guidance counsellors and other teachers is essential, particularly with Islamic education teachers who play a similar role in shaping students' characters. The objective of this research is to describe how collaboration takes shape between Islamic education teachers and guidance counsellors in handling bullying at SMP Negeri 3 Kasihan. This study is qualitative and employs a field research approach. Findings of the study indicate that collaboration between Islamic education teachers and guidance counsellors in addressing bullying cases at SMP Negeri 3 Kasihan is formal collaboration in the form of preventive and corrective programs. Preventive programs include: first, displaying anti-bullying posters in the school area; second, collecting gadgets/phones to prevent cyberbullying within the school; third, bringing in experts or practitioners from outside the school; fourth, organizing cultural events. As for corrective programs, they include: first, implementing individual approaches for both the perpetrators and victims of bullying (call centre); second, imposing sanctions.

Abstract

Covering aurat is one of Islamic teachings in which its implementation can vary according to the local cultural context. In Bima, West Nusa Tenggara, Rimpu stands as the symbols for women in adhering to Islamic law by covering their aurat properly. This present research is a qualitative study with an ethnographic approach to understand the cultural meaning of Rimpu. The findings of this study implies: (1) the educational values in Rimpu are cultural values containing moral, decency, aesthetics, and religious values as the identity and cultural symbol of the Bima community, especially for Bima women who preserve Rimpu culture as a symbol of Islamic law. By using Rimpu, Bima women adhere to the teachings of the Quran to cover their aurat properly, (2) Rimpu culture is a symbol of women's morality in performing good or bad deeds. For this reason, Rimpu culture symbolizes good morality for women. As in Islamic teachings regarding aurat, Rimpu teaches the limits of aurat, protects women when they leave their homes, preserves the honour of women from the direct gaze of non-mahram men, and control direct interaction and communication with men.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the rapid advancement of digital technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), which has become a central topic in contemporary educational development. This research aims to examine the role of AI in post-pandemic Islamic Religious Education (Pendidikan Agama Islam/PAI) by assessing students’ satisfaction with AI-assisted learning. The PIECES framework—encompassing Performance, Information and Data, Economics, Control and Security, Efficiency, and Service—was employed to evaluate six key dimensions of system use. A total of 61 PAI students participated in this study through a Likert-scale questionnaire. The findings show that students generally express satisfied perceptions toward the implementation of AI in PAI learning, with most domains falling within the satisfied category and the Performance domain showing a neutral response. These results indicate that AI contributes to improving access to learning resources, supporting learning autonomy, enhancing efficiency, and facilitating more interactive learning experiences. Furthermore, the integration of AI was perceived to remain compatible with ethical and spiritual values in Islamic education when applied responsibly. The novelty of this study lies in its application of the PIECES framework within the context of Islamic Religious Education, providing an empirical model for evaluating the acceptance and effectiveness of AI-assisted learning in post-pandemic higher education. This research offers theoretical and practical insights into how AI can be responsibly integrated into religious education to strengthen learning quality, digital adaptability, and student engagement.

Abstract

The development of the tourism sector in the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (SEZ) has significantly influenced the socio-cultural dynamics of the local community, including the educational sphere. A major concern is the potential erosion of Islamic spiritual values among the younger generation as a result of rapid cultural globalization. This study aims to explore the existence of Islamic spiritual culture in schools in Kuta Village, Pujut District, Central Lombok, and to identify the challenges, opportunities, and strategies implemented to preserve Islamic values amid the rapid growth of tourism. This research employs a qualitative method with a field study approach, using participatory observation, in-depth interviews with principals, teachers, and community leaders, as well as documentation. Informants were chosen purposively, while the data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, which consists of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Findings reveal that Islamic spiritual culture remains well preserved in schools through the habituation of religious activities, the integration of Islamic values into learning, and teacher role modeling. Nevertheless, challenges persist, such as the influx of hedonistic culture, weakening parental supervision, and shifts in students’ social orientation. Conversely, tourism also creates strategic opportunities for schools to position themselves as centers for Islamic value education for both students and the surrounding community. This study underscores the vital role of schools in sustaining spiritual values while contributing to the development of Islamic education concepts that are environmentally responsive and relevant to religious-based policy formulation in the Mandalika area.

Abstract

This study examines the transformation of religious education policy in Indonesia from the dominance of one religion to a more inclusive and dialogical confessional pluralism. This issue is important because, for decades, religious education policy has reflected a hegemonic orientation favoring one religion, potentially creating social segregation and hindering the development of interfaith tolerance. Using a literature study method with thematic and content analysis, this study examines various academic sources, national policy documents, and educational frameworks to identify patterns of paradigm shift, driving factors, and challenges in the implementation of religious education policy in Indonesia. The research findings indicate a substantial paradigm shift from faith-based teaching focused on doctrinal knowledge and ritual observance to a humanistic model emphasizing moral values, religious moderation, and civic character formation. Post-reform socio-political dynamics, globalization, and national initiatives such as Religious Moderation and the Pancasila Student Profile program drive this transformation. However, the implementation of confessional pluralism still faces ideological, structural, and cultural obstacles, including resistance to pluralist values and limited teacher capacity. This study concludes that religious pluralism represents a new paradigm that positions religious education as a strategic instrument for building an inclusive, moderate, and civilized society. These findings reinforce the urgency of religious education reform as a foundation for strengthening social cohesion and interfaith harmony in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in guiding elementary school students to understand the physical and psychological changes associated with puberty (baligh). Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through interviews and classroom observations involving five PAI teachers at Islamic elementary schools in Bandung. The data were analyzed thematically to identify recurring patterns and key categories. The findings reveal six major themes: (1) puberty education as a moral and spiritual responsibility, (2) dialogic and gender-separated instructional strategies, (3) behavioral approaches through counseling and role modeling, (4) integration of religious and general knowledge, (5) collaboration between teachers and parents, and (6) evaluation through observation and self-reflection. These findings indicate that puberty education within Islamic Religious Education should adopt a holistic framework that integrates spiritual, physical, and emotional dimensions. The study highlights the importance of curriculum strengthening, teacher professional development, and parental engagement in supporting effective puberty education grounded in Islamic values.
