Abstract

This study examines the Islamic community empowerment strategy implemented by the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership (Pimpinan Daerah Muhammadiyah/PDM) in developing Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the Mandala By Pass area of Medan City. As a religious-based community organization, Muhammadiyah plays a significant role as an agent of community economic development, particularly in addressing challenges faced by MSMEs such as limited capital access, low managerial capacity, and minimal digital technology utilization. This study employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation involving PDM administrators and MSME actors, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, with source and method triangulation for validation. The findings reveal that the empowerment strategy was carried out systematically and participatorily across three dimensions: (1) strategic planning based on socio-economic mapping and community needs assessment; (2) sustained mentoring and guidance through management training, digital marketing, and periodic evaluation; and (3) implementation of community economic programs grounded in Islamic economic values such as honesty (ṣidq), trustworthiness (amānah), and social responsibility. This study contributes a replicable model of value-based Islamic community development led by religious organizations at the local level.

Abstract

Rural infrastructure development plays a crucial role in improving community welfare, particularly for farmers who rely heavily on transportation access to distribute their agricultural products. This study aims to analyze the impact of bridge construction on changes in accessibility and farmer welfare in Paya Bakung Village, Hamparan Perak District. This study employed a qualitative approach using descriptive analysis methods. Five informants, including landowners and farm laborers, were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation. Data analysis employed the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which encompasses data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Validity was ensured through source triangulation. The results indicate that bridge construction significantly improved community accessibility. Travel time to market was shortened, transportation costs decreased, and crop quality was maintained, resulting in more stable selling prices. These changes contributed to increased household incomes for farmers, reduced workloads for farm laborers, and strengthened social relations within the village community. From an Islamic societal development perspective, these improvements reflect the achievement of the concept of Falah, which refers to material and spiritual well-being characterized by increased security, solidarity, and social cohesion. Therefore, bridge construction not only functions as physical infrastructure but also as an instrument of community empowerment that contributes to improving the economic and social welfare of rural communities.

Abstract

This study examines the role of community participation in environmental conservation through the Gerakan Peduli Lingkungan (GPL), a youth-based community movement engaged in plastic waste control in the coastal area of Meureubo Subdistrict, West Aceh Regency, Indonesia. Situated within the framework of Islamic community development, the study analyzes GPL's contributions to coastal environmental management, the level and patterns of community participation, and the barriers encountered in program implementation. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with fieldwork conducted in February 2026. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 11 informants — including GPL administrators, village officials, and local residents — and complemented by direct field observations. The findings reveal that GPL contributes through beach clean-up activities, environmental education and awareness campaigns, social media outreach, and community economic empowerment via the productive utilization of plastic waste. Community participation was found to be relatively strong, though unevenly distributed across different social groups, with the main barriers including limited public awareness, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, and insufficient financial support. The novelty of this study lies in its analysis of a community-based environmental movement in a coastal Muslim-majority setting as an integrated model of social welfare and sustainable development, combining social, educational, communicative, and economic approaches rooted in collective community action. The findings offer practical implications for local governments and community organizations in strengthening participatory waste governance, while enriching theoretical discussions on Islamic community development and grassroots environmental stewardship.

Abstract

This study analyzes Zohran Mamdani's victory in the 2025 New York City mayoral election, a result widely regarded as a triumph for the city's pluralistic society given Mamdani's identity as a Muslim and a member of a minority group. Throughout the campaign, Mamdani faced sustained attacks from political opponents, both Republicans and fellow Democrats, who targeted his Muslim identity directly. This study employs a qualitative method, drawing on books and journal articles to examine the foundations of socialist thought, supplemented by international news coverage to trace Mamdani's campaign strategy. The findings show that Mamdani was elected as the 111th mayor of New York with 50.4% of the vote, far surpassing Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa. This outcome indicates strong public trust in a democratic socialist platform centered on prosperity, including reduced housing costs and lower prices for basic necessities. For non-Muslim voters, Mamdani's religious identity was not perceived as an obstacle to leadership; rather, identity politics was seen merely as a tactic used by opponents to influence the election. For Muslim voters, rising costs of living, transportation difficulties, and housing rents were understood as collective burdens rather than the responsibility of any single group—an outlook aligned with both democratic socialist principles and Islamic values. These findings suggest that Mamdani's faith bears no relation to any erosion of democratic values, contrary to claims made by his political rivals. Ultimately, Mamdani's victory demonstrates his capacity to position New York City as an inclusive city, particularly for its lower-middle-class population.

Abstract

The success of student teams in developing nutripreneurship activities is determined not only by technical competence but also by leadership abilities that foster effective teamwork. This study examines the influence of empathy, participatory decision making, and task delegation on team effectiveness from the perspective of student nutripreneur leadership. A quantitative correlational approach was employed using random sampling, involving 30 students from Universitas Pembangunan Nasional "Veteran" Jakarta. Data were collected through Likert-scale questionnaires, strengthened by open-ended questions regarding students' teamwork experiences, and analyzed using Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression. The results show that empathy had a positive and significant effect on team effectiveness (r = 0.551; p = 0.001), participatory decision making demonstrated a similar positive effect (r = 0.418; p = 0.011), and task delegation showed the strongest relationship (r = 0.565; p = 0.001). Empathy was also significantly correlated with participatory decision making (r = 0.415; p = 0.011) and task delegation (r = 0.406; p = 0.013), while participatory decision making and task delegation were positively related (r = 0.448; p = 0.007). Together, these three variables accounted for 38.7% of the variance in team effectiveness (Adjusted R² = 0.387). These findings indicate that student nutripreneur leadership requires a combination of emotional, participatory, and managerial competencies to build team effectiveness. This study emphasizes that strengthening student nutripreneur leadership can be achieved through improving empathetic communication, fostering collaborative decision making, and distributing tasks based on team members' competencies.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the da'wah values embedded within the Marsialapari culture practiced in Gonting Pege Village, Aek Bilah District, Tapanuli Selatan Regency. Marsialapari is a mutual cooperation tradition among the Mandailing community, primarily practiced during rice planting and harvesting activities. This study employs a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach, using observation, in depth interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. Informants included a traditional leader, a religious leader, a Marsialapari practitioner, a village government official, and a youth participant. The findings reveal that Marsialapari culture embodies five interrelated da'wah values, namely ukhuwah or brotherhood, at ta'awun or mutual assistance, ikhlas or sincerity, amanah or trustworthiness and responsibility, and silaturahmi or the maintenance of social ties, each of which is reinforced through relevant verses of the Quran and hadith of the Prophet. Despite significant social change driven by agricultural technology and wage based labor systems, the Gonting Pege community continues to preserve this tradition, which simultaneously strengthens social relationships and family bonds. These findings indicate that Marsialapari functions as a form of da'wah bil hal, or da'wah through action, integrating Islamic teachings into daily life without displacing the local wisdom passed down across generations. This study contributes to the broader discourse on local culture based da'wah in Indonesia and underscores the importance of preserving such traditions amid ongoing modernization.

Abstract

Kuangsan Village, located in Kaliori District, Rembang Regency, is one of the areas frequently affected by drought due to declining rainfall and limited water resources. This condition directly reduces agricultural productivity and weakens local food security. As an initial mitigation and community empowerment effort, hundreds of breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis) seedlings were planted along riverbanks and drylands through collaboration among the Kaliori Military Subdistrict Command (Koramil), the village government, and local residents. This study aims to integrate drought mitigation activities and food security concepts into Social Studies (IPS) education based on environmental awareness and local wisdom. Using a descriptive qualitative method with a participatory approach, the research involved field observations, interviews with six key informants, and documentation of the seedling-planting activities. The early findings show that the breadfruit planting initiative has strong potential to support local food diversification in the future and can immediately serve as a contextual learning resource in Social Studies education. The activity enables students to understand human–environment interactions while strengthening cooperation, social responsibility, and ecological awareness. The study’s novelty lies in offering an early-stage transdisciplinary integration model between Social Studies education and disaster mitigation, positioning the breadfruit planting initiative as an educational entry point for building social and environmental resilience in rural communities.

Abstract

This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method to explore the role of the Darul Huda Mosque in Pattani, Thailand as a place of worship and a means of strengthening the morals of Muslims. Data was collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with mosque administrators and congregants, and documentation of religious activities at the mosque. The results show that the mosque is not only a center for obligatory worship such as congregational prayers and Friday prayers, but also functions as a space for spiritual and moral guidance through additional activities such as i'tikaf, wirid, dzikir, and special prayers. The strengthening of the community's morals is realized through solemn sermons and regular recitation activities. This study confirms that the Darul Huda Mosque plays a vital role in shaping the character and strengthening the moral values of Muslims in the social and religious context of the Pattani region.

Abstract

Cassava is a strategic commodity in Lampung Province that plays an important role in food security and the local economy. Data from Statistics Indonesia in 2024 shows an improving trend in poverty reduction. With 941,230 people compared to 970,670 people in March 2023, this shows that if managed properly, the agricultural sector can reduce poverty levels. However, the oligopsonistic market structure puts farmers in a weak bargaining position. To overcome this, the Lampung Provincial Government issued Governor's Instruction No. 2 of 2025, which sets a reference price of IDR 1,350/kg with a maximum discount of 30%. This study aims to analyze the socioeconomic impact of this pricing policy and its effectiveness for farmers. The research method used is a literature study by examining data from academic journals, BPS reports, and other publications, as well as interviews with selected farmers as respondents. The data is analyzed qualitatively using a descriptive-analytical approach to see the suitability between the policy objectives and the reality in the field. The results of the study show that pricing policies provide little protection for farmers through guaranteed base prices and more secure market access. However, rafaksi practices that are not always transparent, weak supervision, and low productivity remain major obstacles. This study also found that factory closures occurred due to economic pressures and market uncertainty, lax import policies, and weak coordination between the central and regional governments in managing trade. This study confirms that the cassava pricing policy in Lampung serves as an important first step in reducing farmers' vulnerability, but it is not enough to achieve sustainability. Updates to pricing, increased productivity, and institutional support are needed to ensure the sustainable welfare of farmers.

Abstract

This research aims to revitalize the value of Madurese hospitality through the establishment of a traditional village on Giliyang Island, Sumenep. The value of hospitality, which is a characteristic of the Madurese people, has great potential to be integrated in the development of culture-based tourism. With a communication ethnographic approach, this study seeks to read the opportunities for the formation of customary villages, understand the values of Madura hospitality, and formulate revitalization strategies that are relevant to local social and cultural conditions. Giliyang Island, with its distinctive natural wealth, such as high oxygen levels and alluring panoramas, is a strategic location for the development of traditional villages. Research has found that the value of community hospitality, such as mutual cooperation and respect for guests, can be a significant cultural tourism attraction. The proposed traditional villages not only preserve traditions but also provide economic benefits through the improvement of the tourism sector and the creative economy. The results of the study show that the local community strongly supports the establishment of this customary village. Around 75% of respondents stated the importance of preserving customs to maintain cultural identity. The establishment of customary villages is also supported by the local government which is committed to providing infrastructure and training for the community. The proposed strategy involves the active involvement of local communities, strengthening cultural education for the younger generation, and promoting hospitality values as a tourist attraction.
