Abstract

Teaching and learning process can not be separated from textbooks that play an important role as a reference for teachers and students. A good textbook must be representative of the curriculum that applies both the material and teaching methods so that learning objectives are achieved. Arabic textbooks in the 2013 curriculum use a scientific approach, but grammar material has not been explained in detail so that it affects students' competence to improve language skills. So the researcher developed a book for grammar material based on a scientific approach to improve writing skills. This study aims to develop books based on a scientific approach and determine the effectiveness of the books developed. The results obtained from this study are that the books developed have scored between 80-100% which means very good and can be used in learning without any improvement. While the effectiveness aspect obtained a significance value of around 10.93 which shows that the textbook for grammatical material based on scientific approach is effective to improving students’ writing skills.

Abstract

The process of college education differs from educational institutions in secondary schools or primary schools because the subject matter given to students is broader than the subject matter provided at secondary schools or elementary schools. students must also learn to prepare themselves not only to do their work but also in facing exams. Students often procrastinate on assignments given by lecturers for a period of a week. Most students will do their work when the allotted time is getting closer. The actual tasks can be completed faster than the deadline   it is not done immediately because they feel that if done faster or with the Overnight Speeding System "SKS" will not affect the results of the assessment. Lecturers will not give rewards for tasks that are completed faster. So that other activities or jobs that are less important (watching television or cinema, hanging out, playing games with peers) actually take precedence because it gives more self satisfaction.  This study aims to determine the academic procrastination of students in doing assignments. The research used is quantitative research using survey methods of 40 students. The results of research conducted by researchers found that the level of academic procrastination of Islamic Guidance Counseling Department students is low.

Abstract

Grounded from the input hypothesis proposed by Krashen in language learning, a plethora of studies has been addressed to investigate the role of extensive reading which is generally done as an outside classroom activity. However, the integration of similar activities as a part of teaching procedures in the classroom is inadequately explored. Therefore, to fill this lacuna, this article briefly chronicles the enactment of 15-minute silent reading as the adoption of extensive reading in an English class. 32 freshmen were recruited on a voluntary basis. Nested in action research, students engaged in five activities: 1) building knowledge and tutorial,2) material self-selection, 3) silent reading, 4) short sharing session, and 5) individual and collective reflection within 5 weeks of time frame. Findings from the classroom observations, students’ reflective journals, and oral collective reflection indicate that the participants responded  positively and acknowledged some valuable benefits. Overall, the empirical evidence suggests that 15-minute silent reading can be one of alternative activities to be integrated in the classroom instruction.
