Abstract

Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication characterized by increased blood pressure and proteinuria after 20 weeks of gestation. This condition remains a leading cause of maternal and infant morbidity and mortality worldwide, including in Indonesia. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of education in improving pregnant women's knowledge about preeclampsia. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. This design was used to identify pregnant women by comparing the intervention and control groups before and after education. The study population was pregnant women undergoing prenatal care at the Kustini Turi Lamongan Health Center (TPMB) and meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria. A sample of 30 respondents was drawn using a purposive sampling technique. The chi-square statistical test showed a p-value of 0.012 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between WhatsApp-based digital education and pregnant women's knowledge about preeclampsia. This suggests that pregnant women exposed to WhatsApp education tended to have better knowledge than those not exposed. Education through WhatsApp in this study contributed to increasing pregnant women's awareness of the importance of routine prenatal checkups and their awareness of pregnancy complications. With increased knowledge, it is hoped that the risk of undetected preeclampsia can be minimized. Pregnant women are expected to be more active in seeking health information and raising awareness of the importance of early preeclampsia detection. For further research, it is recommended to conduct studies with larger sample sizes and use more robust research designs to obtain more comprehensive results.

Abstract

Perineal laceration remains one of the most frequently encountered complications in vaginal childbirth, potentially resulting in significant maternal discomfort and, in severe conditions, contributing to adverse maternal outcomes. Based on data that observed at RS Aura Syifa, where 81.1% of spontaneous deliveries in 2024 involved perineal laceration. This study was aimed to explore determinants associated with the occurrence of perineal lacerations among vagonal birth  at RS Aura Syifa in 2025. A retrospective approach was applied utilizing secondary data derived from hospital medical records. The study encompassed deliveries recorded between January and December 2025. The target population included all women with term gestation who underwent vaginal birth with cephalic fetal presentation, about 725 cases. A total of 209 subjects were selected through a simple random sampling method. Data management procedures involved verification, coding, and tabulation prior to statistical analysis using stata software. Analytical methods included descriptive (univariate), associative (bivariate), and predictive (multivariate) analyses using logistic regression. The results showed that parity as a statistically significant predictor of perineal laceration (p = 0.035). The calculated odds ratio (Exp(B) = 0.117) indicates that women with prior childbirth experience (multiparous and grand multiparous) exhibited a markedly reduced likelihood of sustaining perineal trauma compared to first-time mothers (primiparous). These findings highlight the importance of comprehensive delivery planning and appropriate intrapartum management to reduce the risk of maternal pain and minimize injury to the perineal laceration during vaginal birth.

Abstract

Vaginal discharge is basically a reproductive complaint that is always experienced by women. Herbal treatments such as Curcuma longa and betel leaves have antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Curcuma longa and piper piper betel leafextracts in preventing and treating vaginal discharge in women of reproductive age. This study used a pre-experimental design with a pretest-posttest group conducted on 35 women of childbearing age (WUS) aged 20-45 years who were determined using purposive sampling. Respondents were given 200 mL of extract orally consumed three times a week for one month. Classification of vaginal discharge severity was categorized as: mild, moderate, or severe. Data analysis in this study used the Shapiro-Wilk test and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. This study obtained results the median severity score decreased from 2 (moderate) before the intervention to 1 (mild) after the intervention. Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed a significant reduction in vaginal discharge after intervention (Z = -5.477; p < 0.001) with a large effect size (r = 0.92). From this study, it was found that Curcuma longa extract and piper piper betel leaf can significantly reduce the severity of vaginal discharge and can be considered as a complementary intervention.

Abstract

Inappropriate contraceptive choice among high-risk women of reproductive age (WRA) may increase the risk of unintended pregnancy and adverse maternal outcomes. Individual perceptions and beliefs regarding health risks and preventive actions, as described in the Health Belief Model (HBM), may influence contraceptive choice. However, evidence regarding the relationship between HBM components and contraceptive choice among high-risk WRA at the community level remains limited. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between Health Belief Model components and contraceptive choice among high-risk WRA in Mulyorejo Village, Sukun Subdistrict, Malang City. This study used a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach conducted from November 2024 to January 2025. A total of 64 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed statistically significant relationships between all HBM components and contraceptive choice among high-risk WRA. Perceived susceptibility was associated with contraceptive choice (r = 0.301; p = 0.016), as were perceived severity (r = 0.349; p = 0.005), perceived benefits (r = 0.314; p = 0.011), perceived barriers (r = 0.313; p = 0.012), and cues to action (r = 0.307; p = 0.014). All correlations were categorized as low to moderate. The findings indicate that HBM components play an important role in influencing contraceptive choice among high-risk WRA. Strengthening women’s perceptions of pregnancy risk and improving counseling strategies may support appropriate contraceptive selection and improve reproductive health outcomes.

Abstract

Anemia during the second trimester of pregnancy poses significant health risks to both the mother and the fetus. Food-based strategies combined with iron supplementation may improve hemoglobin response in this critical period. This study aimed to analyze the effect of combining Fe tablets and Ambon banana consumption on hemoglobin levels among second-trimester pregnant women with anemia compared to Fe supplementation alone. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design was employed. A total of 54 anemic pregnant women in their second trimester from three public health centers in Pondok Kelapa District, Central Bengkulu, were evenly divided into two groups of 27 participants each. The intervention group received one Fe tablet daily and one Ambon banana twice daily for 30 days, while the control group received one Fe tablet daily. Hemoglobin levels were measured before and after intervention using an Easy Touch GCHb Hemoglobin Meter. Both groups showed increased hemoglobin after the intervention. The post-intervention mean hemoglobin level was 11.952 ± 0.6941 g/dL and 11.093 ± 0.6108 g/dL in the intervention and control groups, respectively, with a between-group difference of 0.8593 g/dL (p < 0.001). Confidence intervals could not be reported because summary data lacked the standard error or standard deviation of the change score. Fe tablets combined with Ambon banana consumption were associated with a greater hemoglobin increase than Fe tablets alone among anemic second-trimester pregnant women.

Abstract

Anemia among adolescent girls is a global health problem affecting physical health, academic performance, and well-being. Increased iron requirements during adolescence are often unmet due to poor dietary intake, irregular menstruation, low adherence to iron supplementation, limited physical activity, and unfavorable socioeconomic conditions. This study aimed to analyze the association between these factors and anemia among adolescent girls in Pekalongan Regency and to identify the most influential factor. A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted with 190 respondents selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and digital hemoglobin measurements and analyzed using univariate, Chi-square, and multiple logistic regression tests. Most respondents had poor dietary intake (77.9%), irregular menstruation (68.9%), low adherence to iron tablets (60.5%), insufficient physical activity (74.7%), and low socioeconomic status (52.1%). More than half (54.2%) were anemic. Bivariate tests found that all variables were significantly related to the prevalence of anemia (p<0.05). With a 95% CI The results showed dietary pattern (OR=19.194), menstrual pattern (OR=8.910), Fe tablet consumption (OR=4.517), physical activity (OR=3.585), and economic status (OR=5.161). Multivariate analysis identified dietary pattern as the most dominant factor associated with anemia (OR=19.194; p<0.001). Dietary habits are the strongest determinant of anemia among adolescent girls. Prevention efforts should prioritize balanced nutrition, reproductive health education, improved adherence to iron supplementation, regular physical activity, and awareness of affordable nutritious foods.

Abstract

A Caesarean section (CS) is a surgical procedure that delivers a fetus through an incision in the abdominal wall and uterus . Important aspects to consider include surgical wound care, meeting the mother's fluid and nutritional needs, pain management, and early mobilization. In postpartum cesarean section patients who do not undergo early mobilization, possible effects include increased body temperature, abnormal bleeding, thrombosis, poor involution, obstructed blood flow, and increased pain intensity. This study aims to identify the characteristics and speed of maternal mobilization after cesarean section at Rahman Rahim Hospital, Sidoarjo. This study used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 60 respondents. The independent variables were maternal characteristics, including age, occupation, and pain intensity, while the dependent variable was the speed of mobilization in post- cesarean section mothers. The results of the Chi-square test showed that maternal age and occupation were not significantly related to the speed of mobilization. However, pain intensity had a significant relationship with the speed of mobilization, with a p-value of 0.000, indicating a statistically significant relationship between pain intensity and the speed of maternal mobilization after a cesarean section.
