Abstract

Background: Lifestyle behavior modification is a strategy in the management of obesity. The use of financial incentives is part of the external motivation in weight control programme. This intervention pattern is used to encourage healthy lifestyle behavior by providing direct rewards that depend on individual involvement in healthy lifestyle behaviors. Objective: To examine the overall effect of a study using a 6-month financial incentive intervention on weight loss control. Methods: Data were analyzed from studies reporting the use of financial incentive interventions with the resulting weight changes in the PubMed database. Then a meta-analysis was performed to assess the overall effect. Results: The meta-analysis involved a total of 13 studies. The overall effect shows that the financial incentive intervention has a significant effect on weight loss. There was a significant difference in weight loss in the group that was given financial incentive intervention for 6 months compared to the control group (SMD: -0.49; 95% CI). Statistical heterogeneity was found (I2 = 95.20%, P = 0.00). The random effects model was used in the analysis. Conclusion: There was a significant effect between the financial incentive intervention for 6 months and weight loss although heterogeneity was found between studies. Abstract

Amyloidosis is an infiltrative disease characterized by the deposition of abnormal fibril proteins in various tissues and organ systems, including the heart. Cardiac amyloidosis is a very rare disease. The diagnosis of amyloidosis is highly dependent on the suspicion of a clinician. This disease is often asymptomatic until eventually advanced which will give symptoms and symptoms can vary widely. As a result, the patient's diagnosis is often delayed. Cardiac ATTR amyloidosis can be diagnosed in the absence of histology in the setting of typical echocardiographic/CMR findings when 99mTc-PYP scintigraphy shows Grade 2 or 3 myocardial uptake of Radiotracer. Once cardiac ATTR amyloidosis is confirmed, genetic counselling and testing should be performed to assess for the presence of TTR mutations in order to differentiate between ATTRwt and ATTRv. Genetic testing should be performed even in elderly patients, as a significant number can have TTR mutations. 99mTc-PYP can differentiate between CA types and specific for ATTR types. Imaging modalities other than nuclear imaging, cannot differentiate the types of amyloidosis

Abstract

Background: Hypoxic conditions in preeclampsia cause oxidative stress in the placenta. Oxidative stress triggers endothelial dysfunction resulting in changes in placental parenchyma and vasculature, turn leads to clinical manifestations in maternal and neonatal. Previous studies reported that preeclampsia placental tissue increased the expression of the oxidative stress marker 8OH2dG.Objective: This study aimed to observe the expression of the marker 8OH2dG on the incidence ofpreeclampsia and its association with neonatal outcome. Methods: This study design was case-control, a number of 44 pregnant women participated in this study. The case group was preeclampsia women based on American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologist (ACOG) 2013 criteria and normotensive women as control group. The immunohistochemical was perform in placental tissue for expression of 8OH2dG in trophoblast nuclei. The results were positive when the trophoblast cell nuclei were stained ≥5% with moderate and strong intensity; and negative if stained weakly <5%. Bivariate analysis was performed to determine the association of 8OH2dG expression with preeclampsia and neonatal outcome. Results: This study reported the frequency of trophoblast nuclei with 8OH2dG positive staining was higher in the preeclampsia group than the control group. Expression of 8OH2dG positive staining also increased the risk of low birth weight and asphyxia. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the marker 8OH2dG is associated with preeclampsia and adversely neonatal outcome. Keywords: 8OH2dG, preeclampsia, oxidative stress, neonatal outcome
