Abstract

Self-medication, with both herbs and vitamin C, is the community’s choice in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. Herbs are believed to have many properties that have been tested historically and empirically. Meanwhile, vitamin C has been shown to be clearly able to boost the body’s immune system. Teachers, as the vanguard in educating the education of the nation’s successors, have a very large role in the progress of the Indonesian nation. Teacher health is essential in shaping a dynamic learning process, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of this Community Service activity is to provide education related to knowledge and understanding of the consumption of herbs and vitamin C to prevent the occurrence of adverse drug reactions, especially in teachers of SMAN 97 Jakarta who self-study herbal herbs and vitamin C during the COVID-19 pandemic. This method of Community Service activities is carried out through interactive webinars online. A pretest and posttest will measure the participant’s knowledge before and after counselling. The results obtained in the implementation of community service activities, namely the knowledge and understanding of SMAN 97 Jakarta teachers on the consumption of herbs and vitamin C during the COVID-19 pandemic, increased by an average of 25 points after exposure to the material.

Abstract

Waste management is crucial in the present day, particularly due to the increase in trash production caused by population growth. To address this issue, the government has implemented the Waste Bank Program, which aims to reduce the amount of waste stored at disposal sites. This program has had a significant impact on the management of household waste, which makes up the majority of all waste generated in Indonesia. Despite its importance, participation in the Waste Bank program is low in many communities. To address this issue, a community activity was organized in Sleman, Yogyakarta Special Region to promote and implement the Waste Bank program in one of the 44-family Neighborhood Units. The focus of this activity was the management of inorganic trash. During the six-month period from April to October 2021, the Waste Bank program had a significant increase in participation, with the percentage of community members taking part rising from 27% to 60%. As a result of these efforts, a total of 1,084 kg of inorganic trash was collected. This waste was primarily composed of paper, followed by plastic, various other materials such as iron, aluminum, and used cooking oil, and a smaller amount of glass. The report summarizes the steps taken, challenges encountered, and potential solutions implemented during the initiation of the Waste Bank program. Additionally, the community was able to save 16% of the revenue generated from the collected trash through monthly environmental fees. These findings provide valuable insight into the current state of waste generation and the community’s situation, which can inform future efforts to reduce waste.

Public satisfaction with the implementation of the CSR program implemented by Semen Gresik Rembang Factory is directly proportional to the benefits obtained by the community. The success of the program is not only judged by the number of activities carried out, but also by the level of community satisfaction with the program and community participation in the program to support the improvement of the quality of human resources. Community capacity building is carried out through community empowerment programs to support sustainable development, which is an obligation in development in the world. The development and usefulness of activity programs need to be developed and expanded by beneficiaries to be able to solve problems that exist in the social, economic, and environmental spheres that are more effective and have a broader impact. Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are chronic conditions that cannot be transmitted from one person to another. These conditions do not usually cause symptoms at first, but over time they can progress and damage the affected organ, leading to complications or even death. A lack of public knowledge about NCDs is a major contributor to complications and deaths from these diseases. To address this issue, a series of activities have been organized as part of the Movement for the Control of Non-Communicable Diseases. These activities focus on understanding the definitions, risk factors, prevention methods, and symptoms of diabetes, hypertension, and hyperuricemia. This study used a descriptive observational method, collecting primary data from pre- and post-test responses and health test results. In the first intervention, information about NCDs was provided and participants’ knowledge was increased by 31.25%. The second intervention was a health screening, which included measuring blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Uric acid levels were also measured at five points in Sambimulyo Village, with 129 participants. The results showed that 41.1% had high blood pressure, 29.5% were classified as diabetic, and 18.8% had high uric acid levels. These activities increased public knowledge about NCDs, provided information about the community’s risk factors, and improved communication, education, and information about how to manage these conditions.

Abstract

Adolescent girls aged 15-24 are at risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV/AIDS. The existence of adolescent promiscuity, inadequate knowledge of adolescents about HIV/AIDS, and lack of communication with parents on adolescent reproductive health are some related factors to the increased number of adolescents infected with sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS. Based on these situations, providing health education to adolescents is an alternative solution. The activities were carried out by implementing health education for teenage girls, conducted in four sessions. All sessions were held online, with interactive discussion methods, role play and demonstrations. A total of 18 adolescent girls participated in this activity. The final results showed that there is an increasing mean score of post-test on HIV knowledge (0.5), adolescent reproductive health (0.44), and self-esteem (0.39). There are no significant different between pre and post-test for the level of knowledge on HIV, adolescent reproductive health, adolescent risk behavior and self-esteem. Only risky behavior does not demonstrate an increase in the mean score. Providing health education to teenage girls has improved their knowledge and understanding of HIV/AIDS and adolescent reproductive health and increased adolescent self-esteem. However, these activities did not affect the score of teens’ behavior change. It was due to the duration of health education was not sufficient to change their behavior.

Abstract

Spreading in Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) since March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has slowed down economic activities. Activities in traditional markets decreased due to restricted operating time and people movement. Traders should use online transactions to reach potential consumers. Expanding market segments is also necessary to target the younger generation who regularly use online transactions. Unluckily, traders were not well-trained in online transactions. This activity was aimed to encourage well-implemented online transaction services by traditional market traders in Sleman Regency. Four measures were taken: 1) identifying conditions of traders, 2) formulating online transaction models for traders and potential consumers, 3) online transaction training, and 4) Disseminating/promoting online transaction services. A survey was done in 22 of 37 markets to identify market conditions. Collected data were analysed using the interactive model. Formulated online transaction model includes offer, order, payment and delivery of products. Traders in 25 markets received the training. Service marketing activities include publications on social media, data presentation of markets and traders on Google Maps page, and webinar. All activities were conducted under the tagline "LOPIS (Layanan Online Pasar Ing Sleman)", which means Online Services by Traditional Markets in Sleman Regency. Monitoring is planned for three months after the training is conducted. However, this monitoring could not be carried out due to a significant increase in COVID-19 cases, hence the limitation of this community service activity.

Abstract

Community participation in mangrove forest ecosystem conservation is an effort to overcome and avoid mangrove ecosystem deterioration. The findings show that mangrove forests in Kampung Laut’s coastal region, particularly in the village of Ujung Alang, are still well preserved due to diverse mangrove planting efforts. Currently, the community uses mangrove plants by converting some plant sections into food and using the plant’s stems as building materials. Efforts have been made to preserve mangrove forest ecosystems through the Sustainable Utilisation of Mangrove Forests for the Production of Natural Dyes with a Zero Waste System. The following are the activities: 1) Dissemination of the concept to raise public awareness of the potential of mangrove plants as a source of raw materials for natural dyes to increase community income and sustainably manage mangrove forests, 2) Raising the awareness of the younger generation to improve the local economy through the development of micro-scale SMEs in the field of mangrove-based natural dyes, and 3) Technical training on thinning/logging and sustainable mangrove planting to acquaint participants with the concepts of thinning/logging and sustainable man Establish the program’s purpose, which should be divided into six activities. Many farmer groups anticipate that this community service under the auspices of Krida Wana Lestari will assist them in improving their existing products and estimating the potential process of their natural mangroves. This program raises public awareness of the mangrove plant’s potential as a source of raw materials for natural colours. In addition, this activity enables the community to do technical logging and sustainable mangrove planting to support the availability of raw materials for natural dyes. Consequently, the creation and development of a local economic business unit with a green entrepreneurship incubator model based on mangrove conservation and zero waste from natural dye SMEs have begun.
