Abstract

The transition from conventional farming to organic continues to increase over time. Organic farming, especially organic rice, is becoming something that farmers are interested in because of higher prices and increased consumer demand for organic food products. However, the transition to conventional farming will eventually be followed by the emergence of risks in farming production. This study investigates the factors influencing the production and production risks of organic and non-organic rice farming in Sleman Regency. A total of 45 farmers were sampled in this study, which was determined by purposive sampling. Data collection was carried out by interview method. The Just and Pope approach of production risk is used in analyzing the determinants of production and production risk. The analysis results show that the membership period in farmer groups, land area, education, and manure significantly affects farming production. At the same time, organic rice farming is proven to produce higher production than non-organic. The factor that significantly increases production risk is the length of membership in farmer groups. Farmers who join farmer groups have the potential to face higher production risks. This research implies that it is important for the government to provide support by empowering farmer groups to support organic rice farming. Intensive assistance can be carried out to ensure that the role of the chairperson and members of the farmer group functions optimally.

Abstract

This research examines the role of Toko Tani Indonesia (TTI) in the rice supply chain and price determination in Sragen Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. Using a descriptive analysis approach, the study focused on Sragen, a major rice production center. The samples for this investigation were selected purposively from datasets provided by eleven Community Food Business Institutions and Indonesian Farmer’s Stores that have been recorded in the Office of Agriculture and Food Security of Sragen Regency. The Food Supply Chain Networking (FSCN) model and rice price formation were analyzed qualitatively, while supply chain performance and value-added (VA) were assessed quantitatively. Results revealed a significant reduction in the rice supply chain stages from 6–7 to just 3, improving efficiency. Margins for partner farmers and TTI were calculated at IDR 1,600 per kilogram (51.13% of total margin share) and IDR 300 per kilogram, respectively. Inventory turnover was 12 times annually, with inventory days of supply for farmer groups at 30 days and a cash-to-cash cycle of 37 days. VA analysis showed farmers contributed 72% of total value (IDR 376,216,168), LUPM 26% (IDR 136,678,955), and TTI 2% (IDR 8,090,000). TTI supports farmers by purchasing grains at fair prices, ensuring effective marketing, maintaining rice availability, and stabilizing prices, thus playing a critical role in the community's food security efforts.

Abstract

Chili auction market in Yogyakarta was established with the farmer’s cooperative to strengthen the bargaining position of Sleman’s farmers in receiving fair price for chili. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effectiveness of chili auction market and the problems affecting its implementation. A quantitative approach was used and the location was determined using the purposive method. The sample population comprised chili farmers, who were selected as participants using the accidental sampling method. This study used both primary and secondary data, which were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation. Subsequently, analysis was carried out using descriptive analysis and a fishbone diagram. The results showed that the effectiveness rate of auction market based on three approaches (external, internal, and technical) reached 70,03%. In addition, the problems affecting its implementation included the low availability of chili due to climate change, pest and disease attacks, the absence of machines or supporting facilities, price information that was not transparent, and the limited capability of auction market administrators. Requirements for traders also needed to be updated regarding regional boundaries to open opportunities for traders outside DIY and Central Java.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the influential factors that lead to the profitability of Tuzamurane Cyeza Cooperative members in Muhanga District, Rwanda. The assessment was carried out with a survey method using 120 respondents who were selected using purposive sampling. The respondents comprised 60 cooperative members and 60 non-cooperative members who were maize farmers, while 6 local leaders and staff of Tuzamurane Cyeza Cooperative were used as key informants. Data were then collected using questionnaires and interviews, followed by assessment using profitability calculation and multiple regression analysis. The assessment was carried out to analyze the effect of the independent variables (price of maize seeds, price of fertilizers, price of pesticides, wage of labor, maize production, and land lease price) on the dependent variable (the profitability of cooperative members of Tuzamurane Cyeza). The results showed that the profitability of 60 members was 13.8%, while a value of 4.9% was obtained for non-cooperative members. The value of the F-Critical (2.26) was less than the F-calculated (7.200) and the P-value (0.009) was below the significant level (0.05). This showed that the model developed in this study could be used in predicting the contribution of independent variables to the dependent variable. This study also showed that 1 coefficient (maize production) had a positive relationship with Tuzamurane Cyeza Cooperative members, while 5 coefficients (price of maize seeds, price of fertilizers, price of pesticides, wages of labor, land lease price) had an inverse association. Based on the results, all independent variables had an impact on the profitability.

Abstract

The recovery process following the 2004 mega-disaster and the Covid-19 pandemic have significant implications for the dynamics of change and community resilience in Banda Aceh. A resilient community is characterized by the ability to adapt to various threat risks, including volatile market conditions. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate livelihood assets in Banda Aceh and the influence on households vulnerability to fluctuation in the market price of food commodity. To achieve this objective, the study used a questionnaire survey method with 560 household heads as the unit of analysis spread across 28 villages in Banda Aceh. Furthermore, data were analyzed using a descriptive method to calculate livelihood assets and vulnerability index, along with multiple linear regression to analyze the effect of livelihood capital on vulnerability. The results showed that the condition of human and financial capital was still weak compared to social and physical capital. Households also had a high level of vulnerability to fluctuation in food prices. Statistically, human, financial, and social capital had a significant effect on households vulnerability. This study showed the importance of fostering both human and financial capital at the households level to improvequality of life and economic resilience. There were also needs for initiatives to improve social networks as a means of adapting to unexpected events.

Abstract

The efforts to increase agricultural production are expected to year-over-year increase. The aims of this study were 1) to determine the characteristics of farmers in cultivating sugarcane in sandy soil, 2) to determine farmers' adoption of sugarcane plantation cultivation in sandy soil, and 3) to determine the productivity of sugar cane plantations in sandy soil. The research applied descriptive method. The total sample taken was 30 samples who were sugarcane farmers from the sandy soil, Purworejo Regency by purposive sampling. The instrument used was using a Likert scale ranging from strongly agree, agree, undecided, disagree, and strongly disagree. To answer the first objective used descriptive analysis, second, and the third objective used class intervals (low, medium, and high). The results of this study are 1) characteristics of sugarcane farmers on sandy soil in Purworejo Regency are classified as productive, the highest level of education of the farmers is junior high school, the experience of farmers in cultivating sugarcane on sandy soil are > 15 years, the total production of sugarcane are 5- 6 ton, the area of farmer's land are 2-4 Ha, and the productivity level of farmers are 3 - 4 ton/Ha. 2) the adoption rate of sugarcane farmers on the sandy soil of Purworejo Regency are medium, and 3) the level of productivity of sugarcane farmers on the sandy soil of Purworejo Regency is classified as medium productivity. The utilization of coastal land should add compost to increase soil moisture. The seeds that have been certified and have SNI.
