Abstract

This study aims to increase motivation of tenth grade students of SMKN 1 Tanjung in learning Tajwid by using playing card media called “Kuartet Tajwid”. Research subjects are Al Quran education teacher and tenth grade students of SMKN 1 Tanjung. Research was conducted in two cycles, where each scycle consists of 2 lessons. The data are get by using observation sheet, questioner, and test. The data was analyzed by using descriptive analysis technique. The research shows that (1) Application of “Kuartet Tajwid” media increases motivation of tenth grade students of SMKN 1 Tanjung in learning Al Quran, (2) By applicating “Kuartet tajwid, student activation in learning Al Quran is getting better and more increase (3) Practically, application of “Kuartet Tajwid” in learning Al Quran education increases students abilition to read Al-Qur’an based on the tajwid.

Abstract

The basic value of democration are the obedience to norms of law and orderliness, which is also become the characteristic of a democratic citizhen. The character could be thought through the civics education based on the character of obedience of student at school, especially to student at secondary level (SMP). For some schools at secondary level in Banjarmasin, there are students who have the obedience to the norm of orderliness with high, medium, and low category. The purpose of this study is to explore the lesson plan of civics education for organizing the model of building obedience character to the norms of orderliness as the effort in preparing democratic citizen at school. This study used a qualitative method. The technic used in collecting data is documentation study. The data was analyzed by a qualitative analysis. The result of this study is that the lesson plan of civics education still not based on affective domain and also not integrating the obedience character yet.

Abstract

At the early periods of Indonesian education, learning English was usually understood as learning either American English or British English with all its specific features and characteristics. For the purpose of acquiring such kind of English, many Indonesian students were sent to either one of the countries by our government or native English teachers/ lecturers of those countries were invited to Indonesia to teach Indonesian learners English. This might be based on the belief that the English used in both countries is considered standard. It was believed then that only students who had acquired standardized English well that would be able to engage in international communication well. As time goes by, however, sending students to English speaking countries to learn English or inviting native English teachers/lecturers to teach Indonesian students English is considered ineffective and inefficient anymore. In addition, the policy of Indonesian government in the field of education stipulates that English is the first foreign language that should be learned by Indonesian students. As a result, the number of Indonesian students learning English is getting more and more in every academic school year. The consequence of this shift of policy necessitates Indonesian government to run the program of teaching and learning English domestically with domestic English teachers. The change of policy, of course, gives impact to the result of English learning. Students’ cultural and language background as well as teachers’/lecturers’ cultural and language background must contribute to the English yielded. The impact is the English used is inevitably influenced by Indonesian English teachers and Indonesian English learners. In other words, the English produced is not American English nor British English, but a local variety of English, Indonesian-English. This paper tries to explore and discuss the role of local variety of English as medium of communication in international context.

Abstract

The developmental research objective is to produce the module of outer space physics (Fisika Bumi Antariksa or FBA) that is suitbale and effective to increase the students’ achievment of Physics Education in Faculty Teacher Training and Education, Lambung Mangkurat University. The developmental method used Four D Mode covering define, design, develop, and disseminate. The subject of research is 33 students who took the outer space physics lecture for odd semester in 2011/2012. The data collection technique used the evaluation of suitability, questionnaire, and test. The tecnique of data analysis is qualitative and descriptive. The result of research stated that (1) the module of outer space physics is suitable for learning material relating to content, language, and dilivery; (2) the students’ achievment is good because 9% of the students total number got “A” meaning very satisfying, 45% of them got “B” meaning satisfying, 27% of them got “C” meaning enough satisfying; and (3) the students responded positively to the use of the module of outer space physics in teaching learning activity. In a word, the module of outer space physics is suitable and effective to increase the students’ achievment of Physics Education in Faculty Teacher Training and Education, Lambung Mangkurat University.

Abstract

This research has the objective to know the technique of beating commonly creating the point in table tennis game to players of table tennis game organization Hippindo and to know the result of beating commonly producing point by competing in half competition. It is found that the technique commonly creating the point in table tennis game is top spin, smash, back spin, drive, left side spin, chop, push, dropshot, block, right side spin, top spin, back spin, and flick.

Abstract

This article is a report of one-cycle Classroom Action Research conducted to the fifth undergraduate English majors in STKIP-PGRI Banjarmasin. This study was conducted to implement the strategy of affinity grouping which became an alternative to solve the students’ writing problem of exploring and generating ideas which, in turn, improved their writing abilities. The instruments used for collecting data were field notes, questionnaires, and students’ classification essay projects. It was found out that affinity grouping not only improved students’ writing abilities but also helped them figure out what topic to write, developed their general ideas, and elaborated satisfying information and sufficient details of their ideas generation.

Abstract

The Open University is a higher education institute which applies a long distance learning system requiring the university students to learn independently. But, due to various factors, among others, their habit of depending on the information directly presented by the teacher, the majority of the university students have not yet been able to learn independently. One of the methods that can be used to cope with this problem is the tutorial learning pattern. Tutorial is one of the forms of service and learning guidance given to the university students in order to help them to achieve an optimal learning result through face-to-face tutorial, written tutorial, internet tutorial, radio tutorial, and computer-aided tutorial.  The tutorial process is guided by a tutor playing the roles of facilitator and motivator. The performance of a tutor affects the tutorial results very much. Based on the research result, it was known that the performance of the tutors of UPBJJ-UT Banjarmasin in 4 learning groups (pokjar) – namely those in the regencies of Tapin, Hulu Sungai Selatan, Hulu Sungai Utara, and Tabalong – toward the mastery of the materials had obtained the average score of 3.14 in the Good category.

Abstract

This study tried to investigate the practice in teaching mathematics through English to young learners in EFL setting in a private elementary school in Cianjur. This study was conducted as an effort to find out the fact behind the practice of using English as instruction language at school especially at International Standard School. The findings revealed that in practice the concept of bilingual teaching was not done properly. The activity was dominantly in Indonesia while English was used only at the beginning to introduce the students to new mathematics terms in English. While the text book and exercise book are written in English, the test is in Indonesia. Most students considered it difficult to understand mathematics in English.  However, from the questionnaires it was found that the students’ attitude toward their native and national language is not positive. Most of them see English as the most important and prestigious language. In contrary, Sundanese is considered less popular and the most difficult language for them.

Abstract

This research has the objective to assess the readability level of valid, practical and effective learning model in building the students ecological consciousness in the area of wetlands, to increase the listening skills and the students concepts mastery on subject matter relating to the social environment and the generic structure of English. This study intends to develop the instructional materials in the form of Student Worksheet (LKS) used to create a society that has a high sensitivity in listening to the destruction of the ecology in wetland areas. The study population was all students in all junior high schools in Banjarmasin. By using purposive sampling, each of the first class of eighth grade students from three schools located in the area around the river, namely SMPN 4, Junior High School SMPN 5 and 17 became the sample. The number of students of SMPN 27 Banjarmasin is 165 from 5 classes , While the number of students of SMPN 5 Banjarmasin is 170 from 5 classes. The number of students for each class is between 33 and 34 students. Similarly, the SMP 17, the number of students for the sample was relatively the same. The results showed that the material Worksheet 1 and Worksheet 2 is considered to fulfill the  criteria of material legibility by respondents where they gave positive responses, ranging from the worksheet itself, which includes the presentation of working procedures easy to understand; pictures in worksheet clarify the material; the questions in worksheet are easy to understand; and questions in worksheets guide the students understand the importance of the environment, including the physical form letter corresponding to the font selection and readable; the font size is large enough and clear; and the overall appearance of worksheet is interesting.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out about ‘Bambu Tonggak Bercincin’ media and its implementation in order  to improve learning outcomes of mathematics learning materials about KPK  and FPB in fourth grade. This classroom action research was conducted at SDN 3 Tanjung Kecamatan Tanjung for fourth grade students with 2 cycles. The subjects were 29 fourth grade students, consisting of 14 boy students and 15 girl students. The results showed that (1) there was an increase in mathematics achievement about FPB and KPK material on students after using ‘Bambu Tonggak Bercincin’ media in learning. The average of student activity increased from 65.92 in the first cycle to 93.75 in second cycle, (2) the average of teacher activity  increased from 83.34 in the first cycle to 97.88 in second cycle. (3) The average of  student learning outcomes increased from 75.86 in the first cycle to 93.10 in second cycle. By using ‘Bambu Tonggak Bercincin’ media in learning of KPK and FPB predefined indicators of success were reached when the average student activity was 79.83% with good category, the implementation of lesson plan/ the average of teacher activity was 90.61% with very good category, only two students who did not complete (6.90%), but the classical mastery reached 93.10%.
